Our Waterloo specials are running now for units near the new metro on Raglan Street, the converted warehouses of Danks Street, and homes by Waterloo Oval and the skate park off McEvoy Street. Just mention the special as you book and we will take it off the agreed price.

Postcode 2017 is almost wall-to-wall units: 91.1 per cent of Waterloo dwellings were flats at the 2021 Census, 8.1 per cent terraces or townhouses and 0.5 per cent separate houses. Just over half are two-bedroom. Stock ranges from the tall public housing blocks of the Waterloo estate to high-rise apartments beside South Dowling Street and a scattering of older terraces from the Cooper subdivisions. We fit safety switches, replace tired unit boards, add split-system circuits and trace faults in shared risers.

Waterloo began as a mill town, with Australia’s first paper mill set up here in 1818. Today the trade is lighter: galleries and cafes in old warehouses along Danks Street, and new shopfronts around the metro station at Raglan and Cope Streets. We wire shops and studios, reconfigure tenancies and handle routine maintenance.

Our same-day service reaches every Waterloo block, from the metro precinct to the Danks Street galleries. Urgent jobs here tend to be dead corridor lights in a tower, a unit board that will not reset after a storm, burning smells from an old outlet, and a cafe fridge circuit dropping out during lunch trade.
Waterloo is a renters’ suburb, with 72.7 per cent of homes on a lease in 2021, so our regular callers are property managers, social and private landlords, and strata committees responsible for big residential towers. Owner-occupiers near O’Dea Avenue call for kitchen and lighting upgrades, and gallery and cafe operators along Danks Street need circuits that suit their equipment. Booking a local Waterloo electrician saves you paying for a long drive across town.
Every building brings its own puzzles. The Waterloo estate is due for staged renewal, with 749 social housing units planned for the southern part alone, while older terraces on quieter streets can still carry cloth-wrapped cable. We handle rewiring, board upgrades, common-area lighting and urgent fault calls for buildings here and elsewhere in the City of Sydney.

The Waterloo estate is Sydney's largest public housing precinct and is slated for staged redevelopment. We work on common-area lighting, lobby circuits and unit faults, coordinating with building managers so residents are warned before any shutdown.
Daniel Cooper's land was cut into housing lots in the 1880s, and older terraces still stand among the towers. We replace original cable, add earthing and fit modern boards in tight hallway recesses.
Former warehouses along Danks Street, including an arts complex in the old Kodak factory, now hold galleries, cafes and studios. We add three-phase where needed and lay out lighting that shows work well.
Around 72.7 per cent of Waterloo dwellings are rented, so tenancies change constantly. We check alarms and test existing smoke alarms, confirm RCD cover and document everything for the agent between leases.

Waterloo has two extremes and our licensed team handles both: tall strata towers with shared switchrooms, and older terraces from the 1880s subdivisions where earthing was an afterthought.

Before a tool comes out you get one written fixed price. A McEvoy Street high-rise unit and an older terrace near Waterloo Oval are quoted separately because the work differs.

A dead lift-lobby light, a tripped main in a unit near the metro or a cafe fridge losing power moves up our list the same day it comes in.

Waterloo landlords, strata managers and Danks Street businesses are part of the 250+ customers who rate our work, and many first heard of us from a neighbour in the same building.

Every circuit we run in a Waterloo unit, terrace or shop carries a lifetime guarantee on the labour, so any workmanship fault gets fixed at no charge to you.

Say whether your block uses a fob, intercom or building manager, and whether there is visitor parking. We choose a slot that fits tenants, shift work or trading hours.

We check the board, meter room access and any common property involved, then send one written figure you can pass to the owners corporation before we start.

With roadworks along McEvoy Street and crowds near the new station, we plan our route and park legally, arriving within the agreed window or calling you first.

Floors are covered, cut-offs and packaging leave in our van, and you receive the CCEW plus a brief summary your agent or strata manager can file.

Since Spyro founded the company in 2017 we have grown to a crew of five-plus licensed electricians, and Waterloo has become one of our busiest inner-city postcodes. Much of that is steady compliance work for agents and strata committees, mixed with board upgrades in older terraces and fit-outs for small businesses around the metro. We keep communication clear, because in a tower block several people usually need to know when the power is going off.

Nine in ten Waterloo homes sit in apartment buildings, and the suburb holds both a large social housing estate and private high-rises along South Dowling Street. Shared switchrooms, stair lighting and car park circuits carry most of the risk in blocks this size.

NSW legislation makes a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work compulsory, and every Waterloo job we finish gets one. In large residential blocks that record also helps the owners corporation track what changed and where. AS/NZS 3000 requires RCD protection on final subcircuits whenever a board is replaced or altered, and Type AC switches have been off-limits in new installations since 1 May 2023, so we install Type A units at minimum.
We do not guess figures over the phone. A power point in a modern two-bedroom unit near the metro is a short visit, while adding circuits to an older terrace off Elizabeth Street may involve chasing brick and replacing a ceramic fuse board first. We inspect, explain the options and put a fixed price in writing that holds unless you change the brief.
Tower block stair lights gone, a tripping board in your Raglan Street unit, or a Danks Street studio that needs extra power? Call 02 8999 3691 to arrange an inspection by a licensed electrician, receive a fixed written price, and keep the lifetime labour guarantee that comes with every job.
Waterloo tenants, landlords, strata committees and small business owners send us these questions most often. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Very often. Waterloo is well within our regular inner-city run, and the vans are out from 7am until 5:30pm on weekdays, plus 7am until 2pm each Saturday. Phone 02 8999 3691 early and there is a good chance of a visit before we knock off. Tell us straight away about sparks, heat or a board that keeps tripping, as those jump the queue.
It depends on the building more than the task. A new outlet in a recent tower unit takes far less time than the same outlet in an old terrace with brick walls and no earth wire. Because of that we only price after looking, and the fixed figure we send you in writing does not change unless you ask for more work.
The usual culprit is an overloaded circuit or a failing safety switch. Many units now run air conditioners, dryers and induction cooktops that older boards were never sized for, and moisture in balcony fittings can trigger RCDs. We isolate each circuit, measure leakage and load, and tell you whether a repair, a load split or a board upgrade is the sensible fix.
Anything fed from your own unit board is normally the lot owner’s responsibility, while the main switchroom, risers, lifts, lobbies and car park lighting belong to common property. In a suburb where 91.1 per cent of homes are flats, the line matters. Once we pin down the fault, a short written report tells both parties who should pay.
The City of Sydney has adopted planning controls for Waterloo Estate South, covering 749 social housing units and 120 private homes, and the wider estate is due for staged renewal. Until buildings change hands, existing blocks still need maintenance. We keep common-area lighting, boards and unit circuits safe and compliant, and work with managing agencies on access and resident notice.
A working alarm on each level, repair within two business days once a tenant reports a fault, and replacement no later than ten years after the manufacture date. Only a licensed electrician may install hard-wired units. With most Waterloo homes leased, we often fit new hard-wired smoke alarms at changeover and hand over dated paperwork.
Usually, with strata approval. About 37.4 per cent of Waterloo households have no car, but many owners in newer towers now drive electric. We check spare capacity at the main board, propose a metering arrangement the owners corporation can accept, and run a dedicated circuit to your space. Kerbside charging on public streets is not something we can install.
Yes. Danks Street’s converted warehouses house galleries, studios and eateries, and the old industrial supply often needs reworking for modern layouts. We design track and feature lighting, dedicated circuits for coffee machines and refrigeration, exit signs and emergency lights, and we schedule noisy work away from opening hours.
The Waterloo metro station opened in August 2024 at the corner of Raglan and Cope Streets, bringing new retail tenancies and foot traffic. Businesses moving in need lighting, power, data and signage wired to suit their fit-out. We work with landlords and tenants on shell-to-trading upgrades and keep the site safe for passers-by during the job.
All our electricians hold NSW licences and are fully insured. Spyro set the business up in 2017, and we have completed over 7,000 projects since. The labour on every job comes with a lifetime guarantee, so a workmanship problem in your Waterloo unit or shop is fixed without cost.
