Living in a Gibbes Street cottage, trading on Railway Street or running a workshop off the Princes Highway? Our Banksia offers also cover Bestic Street, Kimpton Street and homes near Barton Park. Just mention the deal when you phone to book and we will honour it.

Banksia is a house suburb. The 2021 Census counted 77.6 per cent separate houses, well above the NSW share of 65.6 per cent, and only 11.0 per cent flats. Most homes have three bedrooms (47.1 per cent). Residential building began in the 1880s and picked up after the station opened in 1906, so streets like Gibbes, Bestic and Godfrey hold Federation cottages, a sandstone cottage and interwar houses. We do full and partial rewires, board replacements and new circuits for extensions.

Beyond the Railway Street shops beside the station, Banksia’s commercial side runs along the Princes Highway, part of an automotive precinct of car yards, tyre shops and repairers. We wire workshop equipment, hoists and compressors, replace old lighting and maintain boards for commercial premises there.

Same-day service reaches every Banksia street, from West Botany Street across to the Princes Highway. Urgent jobs here include an old Federation cottage losing half its circuits, a workshop board tripping mid-repair, and wiring damaged by storm-felled branches.
Most Banksia homes are owner-occupied (38.5 per cent owned outright and 37.0 per cent with a mortgage), so our work here is mostly for families improving houses they plan to keep. Common calls are rewires for older cottages, extra power for extensions and granny flats, and brighter outdoor lighting. Businesses along the Princes Highway also use us as their Banksia electrician for workshop circuits and fault finding.
In one week we might replace a ceramic fuse board in a Kimpton Street house, fit LED downlights through a renovated Bestic Street cottage, and attend an emergency electrical call at a tyre shop that lost power mid-job. That mix of older family homes and small commercial sites is typical of the work we do across St George and Canterbury-Bankstown.

Development in Banksia accelerated after the 1906 station opening. Many cottages from that era still contain old cable and fuses, so we test thoroughly and replace wiring while protecting original ceilings and joinery.
With 77.6 per cent separate houses, Banksia families often extend rather than move. We plan circuits for new rooms, kitchens and granny flats, and check whether the existing board can handle the load.
The Princes Highway strip includes car yards, tyre shops and repairers. We install three-phase supply for hoists and compressors, add workshop outlets and fit high-output lighting over service bays.
Larger Banksia blocks leave room for sheds, pergolas and backyard lighting. We run weatherproof outdoor circuits, install garden and security lights, and add power to detached garages and workshops.

Our licensed team knows the Federation cottages and interwar houses built in Banksia after the 1906 station opening, including the way their early wiring was run.

We inspect your property, then give you one fixed price in writing. A cottage on Gibbes Street and a highway workshop are quoted separately because the work is so different.

When a Banksia house loses power or a workshop board starts tripping, we move urgent calls forward so a licensed electrician can get to you as quickly as possible.

Banksia home owners and highway businesses are among our 250+ customers, many of them introduced by friends or relatives living a street or two away.

Every circuit we install in a Banksia home or business comes with a lifetime labour guarantee, so if our workmanship ever fails we fix it at no charge.

Tell us your street, whether there is a driveway or side access, and what times suit. We book around your family routine or your workshop’s trading hours.

Our electrician checks the board and wiring, explains what is needed, then gives you a fixed written price. No work starts at your Banksia property until you approve it.

Banksia’s streets are mostly quiet, but the Princes Highway gets busy, so we plan our route and arrive within the agreed window. Any delay gets a phone call.

We cover floors, remove offcuts and old fittings, and give you the compliance certificate along with a short explanation of what we changed in your home.

Banksia is a regular part of our week because its older family homes keep needing careful upgrades, from fuse board replacements to full rewires. Banksia’s houses date mainly from the 1880s to the interwar years, with growth after the station opened in 1906. Many still rely on old fuse boards or early circuit breakers with limited RCD protection, which is why switchboard upgrades are the job we quote most in 2216.

A Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work is required for every electrical job in NSW, and we provide one after each Banksia visit. In older cottages, any original wiring we disturb is upgraded or clearly noted in writing. Replacing or altering a switchboard brings AS/NZS 3000 RCD protection onto the final subcircuits, and we install Type A devices because Type AC units have been banned in new work since 1 May 2023.
Banksia jobs are priced after an inspection. Adding a circuit in a postwar brick house with easy roof access may be simple, while doing the same in a Federation cottage with low ceilings and tight subfloor space takes more time. Once we have seen the job, you receive a fixed written price that only changes if you ask for extra work.
Old fuse board in a Gibbes Street cottage, a new extension that needs wiring, or a Princes Highway workshop with tripping circuits? Call 02 8999 3691. We will inspect the job, give you a fixed written quote and guarantee the labour for life.
Banksia home owners, renovators and Princes Highway business owners most often ask us these questions. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Often, yes. We work from 7am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 2pm on Saturday, and Banksia is close to the routes we cover every day through Rockdale and Arncliffe. Call 02 8999 3691 early for the best chance of a same-day visit. Tell us if there is sparking, burning or a complete loss of power so we can treat it as urgent.
We quote only after inspecting the job, because the effort varies greatly between Banksia homes. A power point in a brick house with an accessible roof space is quick, while the same outlet in an older cottage with plaster walls and limited access takes longer. After the visit, you get a fixed written price that stays the same unless you change the job.
Usually, yes. Many older Banksia homes still have ceramic fuses or early boards with little or no RCD protection. They were not designed for modern loads such as air conditioning and induction cooking. We inspect the board and wiring, explain the risks and give you a fixed written quote for an upgrade.
Yes. Banksia has cottages from the late 1800s and early 1900s, including one sandstone cottage on Godfrey Street. We run new cabling through ceiling spaces and subfloors where possible to limit wall damage and protect original ceilings, cornices and joinery. We can also stage a rewire over time if that suits your budget.
Yes. With most Banksia homes being separate houses on decent blocks, extensions and granny flats are common. We plan the circuits, check whether the main board has enough capacity, run submains where needed and wire lighting, power and appliances to suit the new space.
Yes. Banksia averages 1.7 vehicles per dwelling and most houses have driveways or garages, making home charging practical. We check the spare capacity at your board, run a dedicated circuit to your parking area and install the charger with the correct protection devices.
Yes. Banksia’s section of the Princes Highway is part of an automotive precinct with car yards, tyre shops and repairers. We install three-phase supply for hoists and compressors, add workshop power, upgrade lighting over service bays and maintain switchboards, scheduling disruptive work around your trading hours.
Many Banksia homes have backyards with room for sheds, pergolas and entertaining areas. We install weatherproof outdoor power points, garden and security lighting, and circuits for detached garages or workshops, making sure every outdoor circuit is properly RCD protected and suited to wet conditions.
About 22.6 per cent of Banksia homes are rented. Landlords must provide a working smoke alarm on every storey, repair reported faults within two business days and replace alarms within ten years of manufacture. Hard-wired alarms must be installed by a licensed electrician, and we can also check safety switches and wiring between tenancies.
We cover all of Banksia 2216, including Railway Street, Gibbes Street, Bestic Street, Kimpton Street, Godfrey Street, West Botany Street, the Princes Highway and the areas around Barton Park and St George Stadium. We also work regularly in Arncliffe, Rockdale, Bexley, Kyeemagh, Bardwell Valley and Brighton-Le-Sands.
