Whether your place sits above Cargo Wharf, along Florence Terrace or up the steps near Catherine Park, our current Scotland Island specials apply, including homes near Elizabeth Park and Pitt Point. Mention the offer as you arrange the ferry run and we will honour it.

Scotland Island is almost entirely houses: 98.8 per cent of occupied dwellings in the 2021 Census, around 350 homes ringing the foreshore with bush above. Power only reached the island in 1962, after lots were first sold in 1906 and 1924, so wiring ranges from early holiday shacks to recent rebuilds. We carry out home electrical repairs, board changes and lighting upgrades, bringing every part across from Church Point because nothing can be bought on the island.

There is no shopping strip or industry here; the non-residential buildings are the community hall, the kindergarten and the Rural Fire Brigade station. Much of our island work therefore supports people working from home, artists’ studios and these shared community spaces, with lighting, outlets and data planned carefully ahead of each trip.

Scotland Island faults are handled through our same-day service where ferry times and crew allow: a safety switch that will not reset after a Pittwater storm, a dead kitchen circuit, or damaged outdoor lighting on a wharf path. We will always tell you honestly when we can get across.
Owners make up most of our island customers, with 84.6 per cent of homes owned outright or mortgaged, and almost a quarter of dwellings were empty on Census night. Permanent residents ask for board upgrades, better lighting on steep paths and reliable power for home offices. Absent owners want faults sorted and alarms checked before their next visit. Working as a Scotland Island electrician means planning every job around the Church Point ferry and hauling tools up steps like those on Thompson Street.
Because the island has no road access, we pack spare breakers, cable and fittings before leaving the mainland, so a small fault does not become a second trip. The bushland core and the 1939 wildfire history make RCD protection and interconnected smoke alarms a sensible priority. We respond to urgent electrical faults here as carefully as anywhere across the Northern Beaches.

Most houses ring the shoreline near Cargo, Carols, Eastern and Tennis Court Wharf. Salt air corrodes outdoor fittings, so we fit sealed lights and outlets and check every outdoor circuit has RCD protection.
The island rises over 90 metres, and many homes are reached by steps or tracks such as Elsie Track. We carry lighter equipment, plan cable routes on sloping sites and light paths safely.
A wildfire swept the island in 1939 and bushland still covers its centre. We recommend interconnected smoke alarms, RCDs on every circuit and tidy, protected outdoor cable away from leaf litter.
The community hall, kindergarten and fire station are the only non-residential buildings. We add lighting and power for these spaces and for home studios and offices used by island residents.

Our licensed electricians have carried tools up island tracks and worked on homes built soon after power arrived in 1962, so they plan around older circuits and awkward access alike.

We look before we price, sometimes via photos first, then give one fixed written figure with the ferry trip included. A house beside a wharf costs less to reach than one high on the hill.

If power fails or a switch keeps tripping, we check the next ferry times and send a licensed electrician across as soon as one is free, loaded with likely spare parts.

Our 250+ customers include Scotland Island residents and absentee owners who value a crew that turns up prepared, keeps them informed and knows the Church Point routine.

Every circuit we install on Scotland Island has a lifetime guarantee on the labour, which matters when calling someone back means another boat trip across Pittwater.

Tell us which wharf is closest and how many steps lead up to your house. We then book a day that lines up with ferry times and your own plans on the island.

After seeing the job in person or through clear photos, we send a fixed written quote covering labour, materials and boat travel, so no costs appear afterwards.

We arrive at Church Point early for our booked ferry, bring everything needed in one load, and message you if weather on Pittwater changes the crossing.

All packaging and offcuts come back to the mainland with us, the house is left swept, and you receive the compliance certificate with notes on any work done.

From Spyro’s first jobs in 2017 we have grown to five-plus licensed electricians, a few of whom genuinely enjoy the logistics of island work. On Scotland Island that might mean a new board in a foreshore home off Richard Road, LED lighting on a stepped path near Harold Reserve, or smoke alarms for an owner who visits on weekends. We plan each trip in detail, because turning up without a part here costs everyone a day.

Spyro here. Does your Scotland Island home still have an old fuse board, or does the power drop whenever a Pittwater storm rolls through? Phone me on 02 8999 3691 and we will line a visit up with the ferry.

Electricity only reached Scotland Island in 1962, and many homes began as holiday houses on lots subdivided in 1906 and 1924. Older boards with rewireable fuses and few safety switches are common, and upgrading them is the job we plan most carefully for the island.

Once the job is done, the island owner receives a CCEW from us, as NSW rules demand. Homes here were wired at many different times since 1962, so we test existing circuits before joining new work to them. Touching the board brings in the AS/NZS 3000 call for residual current devices on final subcircuits, and we choose Type A or better since Type AC units dropped out of fresh work from 1 May 2023.
We fix the price in writing before starting, with travel included. A house a few metres from Cargo Wharf is simple to reach with a trolley. A home high up the hill via long flights of steps takes more time and more hands to carry the board and cable. Seeing the job first, or at least clear photos, keeps the quote accurate.
An old fuse board, a switch that trips every storm, or smoke alarms to check before your next weekend on the island? Ring 02 8999 3691. We sort the ferry timing, put a single fixed figure in writing and keep our workmanship covered for life.
Scotland Island residents and owners who live on the mainland most often ask us these questions. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Sometimes. We take bookings from 7am through to 5:30pm Monday to Friday and from 7am to 2pm Saturday; Sunday we rest. Getting to the island depends on ferry times from Church Point and on whether an electrician can carry the right parts across. Call early and we will tell you straight away if a same-day crossing is realistic.
Each quote is a fixed written figure that includes boat travel and carrying time. A home beside a wharf is quicker to work on than one reached by a long climb, so we look first or ask for photos of the board and access. The price stays the same unless you add work.
Scotland Island has no road access, so we park at Church Point and cross on the ferry, or use a private boat when ferry timing does not suit. Tools and materials go in one planned load, and we ask which wharf and path are nearest to your house before we set out.
We try hard to avoid that by asking about your board, fittings and the fault in detail beforehand. Our electricians carry common breakers, cable and fittings for island jobs. If something unusual is needed, we make the site safe, explain the situation and return with the part on the next suitable trip.
It shapes our advice. A 1939 wildfire burned the island and bush still covers its centre, with a volunteer Rural Fire Brigade based locally. We suggest interconnected smoke alarms, RCD protection on every circuit and outdoor cable kept protected and clear of leaf-filled gutters.
Usually water is reaching an outdoor light, outlet or damaged cable on a circuit. Foreshore homes face spray, wind and heavy rain off Pittwater. Resetting the switch repeatedly will not fix it. We test each circuit, find the faulty section and replace fittings with sealed ones where needed.
Stay well clear of any fallen or hanging wires and call 000 if there is danger. Street supply and lines to the pole belong to Ausgrid, so report outages or damage to them on 13 13 88. Once supply is restored, we can check and repair wiring on your side, including meters, boards and internal circuits.
Yes. Many island homes are reached by long flights of steps and bush tracks. We install low-glare LED path lights, sensor lighting at doors and landings and weatherproof switches, all on protected circuits, so getting home from the wharf after dark feels safe.
We can. Scotland Island is known as a base for artists and musicians, and many residents work from home. We add extra power points, dedicated circuits for kilns, amplifiers or heaters, and data points for routers and desks, all planned so one trip covers the whole job.
