Hunters Hill is a peninsula of substantial houses. The 2021 Census counted 70.8 per cent separate houses and 47.5 per cent of homes with four or more bedrooms, averaging 3.4. Many early homes were built from local sandstone after Didier Joubert bought 200 acres from 1847 and brought in Italian stonemasons. We carry out careful rewiring inside thick stone walls, renovation electrical for extensions and kitchens, and board upgrades that respect the conservation controls covering much of the municipality.

Commerce here is low-key: shops at the Alexandra and Ferry Street corner, a scattering along Woolwich Road, and the main centre near Ryde Road, Gladesville Road and the Hunters Hill Hotel, rebuilt in 2013. Schools, churches, a private hospital and aged care homes round it out. We handle lighting, maintenance and commercial electrical repairs for them.

Our same-day service covers the whole Hunters Hill peninsula, from the Ryde Road shops out toward Woolwich. Typical urgent faults: a sandstone home where damp has got into old wiring, a pool pump that scorched its socket, and storm-felled branches pulling lights off a waterfront garden.
Owners dominate Hunters Hill, with the 2021 Census showing 42.0 per cent of homes owned outright and a median age of 46. Many of our clients are restoring or extending older houses and want modern capacity without damage to stonework, joinery or cornices. As your Hunters Hill electrician we also work in the townhouses and units near Gladesville Road, where 17.5 per cent of dwellings are flats.
Heritage sets the rules here. The Hunters Hill Trust notes that general conservation areas cover huge parts of the suburb, and hundreds of buildings are listed as heritage items, from Vienna on Alexandra Street to Milthorpe and Hestock on Crescent Street. We plan cable paths, meter boxes and outdoor lights to stay discreet, and respond to electrical emergencies in these homes across the Northern Suburbs.

From 1847 Didier Joubert's Italian stonemasons raised solid homes of local sandstone. We thread new cable through cavities and subfloors so walls stay unchipped and ceilings, cornices and fireplaces survive the upgrade.
Close to half of Hunters Hill homes have four bedrooms or more. Split systems in every room, induction cooktops and home studios quickly outgrow boards installed decades ago, so we resize and relabel them.
Lane Cove River on one side, Parramatta River on the other, plus mature tree canopy over many gardens. After storms we test garden lighting, pool gear and outdoor sockets on the customer side of the meter.
Flats make up 17.5 per cent of dwellings and townhouses a further 11.8. For these we upgrade lot boards, add outlets and lighting, and raise common property faults with the strata manager in writing.

Our licensed electricians have worked through the sandstone walls, timber floors and early wiring of Hunters Hill homes, and know how to upgrade without harming heritage fabric.

You get a figure only after we look. A unit near the Ryde Road shops and an old heritage home on Crescent Street are quoted separately, each in writing.

Water getting into wiring in an older stone home, or a dark kitchen on a Saturday, is treated as urgent, and we rearrange our schedule to reach the peninsula fast.

Hunters Hill homeowners, schools and small businesses are among our 250+ customers, many referred by neighbours whose heritage houses we have rewired carefully.

Every circuit we run behind restored plaster or through sandstone in Hunters Hill carries a lifetime labour guarantee, so you never need to open those walls for our workmanship.

Mention the street, whether a heritage listing applies, where the board hides and any parking limits on tight lanes near Ferry Street. We then offer a visit that fits around your week.

After opening the board and checking how old cable threads through stone and hardwood, we set out the work plainly and email a single written figure before starting.

Crossing Gladesville Bridge or coming down Burns Bay Road can stall at peak hour, so we leave margin, reach you inside the agreed window and ring ahead if that slips.

Cedar joinery and polished floors get covered, sandstone dust is vacuumed away, offcuts leave in our van, and the certificate arrives with a note on each new circuit.

Spyro founded the business in 2017, and our five-plus licensed electricians have spent plenty of hours on the peninsula since. Hunters Hill asks for patience: walls of Joubert-era sandstone, cedar joinery, cellars and additions from several generations. We map what is already there before cutting anything, talk owners through conservation limits, and leave homes wired for induction cooking and split systems without scarring the fabric that makes them worth restoring.

G’day, Spyro speaking. Stone house off Alexandra Street still running old cable, a renovation near Boronia Park needing an electrician, or a circuit that drops out after rain? Ring 02 8999 3691 and I will get my team out.

Hunters Hill has hundreds of heritage-listed buildings, and general conservation areas cover huge parts of the suburb, according to the Hunters Hill Trust. Rewiring older sandstone and timber homes without damaging their character is the specialised job we are asked about most in 2110.

State rules mean a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work accompanies each job we complete on the peninsula, and we lodge it for every Hunters Hill client. Sandstone houses from the 1800s often conceal perished rubber cable and makeshift joins, so anything unsafe that we disturb is either renewed or written up. Once a board is altered, AS/NZS 3000 obliges residual current protection over all final subcircuits, and we fit Type A or better since Type AC left new work in May 2023.
A written figure reaches you before a single floorboard is lifted. Scope differs hugely across 2110: extra lighting in a newer unit near the Gladesville Road shops may take a couple of hours, while renewing circuits in an early stone cottage off Alexandra Street means crawling subfloors and working around cedar joinery. We see the house first, then settle on one amount.
Rewiring a sandstone cottage, wiring an extension approved by council, or chasing a fault that only appears after rain? Phone 02 8999 3691. One of our licensed electricians will inspect the home in person, explain the options and hand you a fixed written quote, and the labour is guaranteed for life.
Heritage owners, renovating families, unit residents and local schools and churches across Hunters Hill raise these questions most. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Most of the time. We work 7am until 5:30pm on weekdays and 7am until 2pm Saturdays, and Hunters Hill sits between Gladesville, Lane Cove and Drummoyne jobs we attend all week. Ring 02 8999 3691 as early as you can. Scorched outlets, a burning smell or a house with no power move straight up the list.
Construction drives the cost. A unit near the Ryde Road shops with plasterboard walls and open ceiling space is quick to work in, while a sandstone house from the 1800s demands careful routes through stone, hardwood and lath. We inspect, then give you a single written fixed amount that only shifts if you choose to add work.
Yes, with planning. We use roof voids, subfloors and old service cavities first, avoid chasing sandstone wherever possible and choose switch plates and fittings that suit the period. Listed homes such as those on Crescent Street or Alexandra Street may need council consent for external changes, so check with Hunter’s Hill Council before any new meter box or outdoor light goes on a facade.
A lot. The Hunters Hill Trust describes a general conservation area covering huge parts of the suburb, separate landscape conservation zones, and hundreds of individual buildings listed as heritage items. In practice that means visible electrical changes on street elevations need thought, so we keep conduit, meter enclosures and lighting as discreet as the rules and the house allow.
Damp is the usual culprit. Moisture creeps through sandstone and into perished cable joints, cellar wiring or tired outdoor fittings, and the safety switch cuts supply when current leaks to earth. Resetting it repeatedly only hides the fault. We test insulation circuit by circuit, locate the wet section and renew it, then confirm the RCD trips as designed.
Regularly. Hunters Hill extensions often join a new rear pavilion to an older stone or timber front, so we plan circuits, lighting, kitchen appliances and air conditioning with the builder and architect, then check whether the existing board and supply can carry the added demand before plans are finalised.
We can. Waterfront gardens here sit close to the river breeze and collect heavy tree litter. We install dedicated pool and spa circuits, bonded as required, weatherproof outlets and outdoor ceiling fans for covered terraces, all protected by RCDs and rated for wet, exposed positions.
Usually it is. Most houses have a driveway or garage, and the Census counted 1.9 vehicles per dwelling. We measure spare capacity at the board, run a dedicated circuit to where you park and mount the charger, and where a heritage facade is involved we position it out of street view.
Yes. The peninsula holds St Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill High, several primary schools, parish churches, a private hospital on Alexandra Street and aged care homes. We handle lighting upgrades, exit and emergency lights, maintenance and repairs, and book disruptive work during holidays or quieter hours.
All of Hunters Hill 2110, including Alexandra Street, Ferry Street, Crescent Street, Woolwich Road, Ryde Road, Gladesville Road, Reiby Road, Mary Street, Nelson Parade, Boronia Park and Kellys Bush. We also work across Huntleys Point, Gladesville, Riverview, Linley Point, Lane Cove, Longueville and Drummoyne.
