Living in a Victoria Street terrace, an apartment on the Finger Wharf or a Macleay Street flat within sight of the Garden Island wharves? Our current specials for the streets around the naval precinct also cover Cowper Wharf Roadway. Quote the offer when you ring to claim it.

Garden Island itself is a working Royal Australian Navy base with no private homes, so the residential calls on this page come from the streets ringing it. Just south, Potts Point packs Victorian terraces along plane-tree-lined Victoria Street, Art Deco and Spanish Mission flats on Tusculum Street, and 1920s blocks such as Manar on Macleay Street. The Finger Wharf in Woolloomooloo was converted to housing. We handle home electrical repairs, board changes and unit rewires in all of them.

The island is Fleet Base East, and the dockyard is run by Thales Australia under Defence arrangements, so work inside the fence happens only through Defence and its contractors. Our commercial jobs are the cafes, offices and small businesses on the Woolloomooloo and Potts Point side, where we handle commercial electrical work and lighting upgrades.

We offer same-day service to the homes and businesses along the Potts Point ridge and the Woolloomooloo waterfront beside Garden Island. Urgent faults we see here: a 1920s flat whose board trips every evening, water getting into a harbour-facing light fitting, or a dead lighting circuit in a shared stairwell.
Garden Island has served the navy since the colony’s first months, when the crew of HMS Sirius planted a kitchen garden there in 1788. It was joined to the Potts Point shore when the Captain Cook Graving Dock was built during World War II. Behind the security gates, electrical work is Defence business. Out here on the public side, we act as the nearby electrician for the apartments, terraces and shops that face the wharves.
Our clients around the base include owners of older Macleay Street flats, landlords with Victoria Street terraces and residents of the Finger Wharf. Typical jobs are switchboard replacements in interwar apartment blocks, extra circuits for kitchens, and lighting upgrades on balconies facing the fleet. If a fault leaves you without power, we send an emergency electrician over the same day, one of many callouts we cover through the City of Sydney.

Potts Point streets above the base hold Art Deco, Spanish Mission and 1920s flats. We replace aged lot boards, rewire units and help strata committees plan upgrades to shared risers.
Victorian terraces line Victoria Street under its plane tree canopy. We rewire them with care for original plaster, cornices and joinery, keeping new fittings away from protected facades.
The Finger Wharf beside Garden Island is now housing. Salt air shortens the life of outdoor fittings, so we use suitably rated lights and outlets on balconies and check connections for corrosion.
For landlords with units near the base, we replace expired smoke alarms, confirm one works on every level, and supply dated records for landlords and managing agents.

Interwar flats and Victorian terraces climbing the ridge above Garden Island are familiar ground for our licensed team, including buildings where one riser feeds dozens of apartments.

Each job near the naval precinct is priced after we see it. A Finger Wharf apartment and a Victoria Street terrace get separate written figures, fixed before work begins.

If a Potts Point flat overlooking the wharves loses power, or a Woolloomooloo cafe’s fridge circuit fails, we rearrange the day to get an electrician there quickly.

Our 250+ customers include residents of the streets overlooking Garden Island, strata committees in Macleay Street blocks and small business owners along Cowper Wharf Roadway.

Labour on every circuit we install in the homes and shops around Garden Island is guaranteed for life, including rewires hidden inside thick masonry walls.

Tell us the building, whether there is a concierge or intercom, and where a van can stop near the base. We then offer a time that suits you.

Our electrician opens the board, looks along the risers or ceiling void, and explain the work clearly before sending a written fixed quote you can approve at your own pace.

Cowper Wharf Roadway and the ridge streets are tight for parking, so we plan the stop in advance and arrive in the agreed window or phone ahead.

Common areas and lifts are protected while we work, waste goes with us, and the compliance certificate arrives by email with a note on what we changed.

Since Spyro founded the business in 2017, the team has grown to more than five licensed electricians working across inner Sydney. The streets around Garden Island suit careful tradespeople: grand interwar flats with shared risers, terraces older than the naval dock, and residents who expect a neat job. We do not work inside the base itself, but we know the buildings that look down on it.

This is Spyro. A Potts Point flat by the naval base that keeps tripping, or a Woolloomooloo shop short on power, deserves a proper look. Ring 02 8999 3691 and I will have one of our licensees there.

The ridge above Garden Island is lined with 1920s and Art Deco apartment blocks, such as Manar on Macleay Street and the flats of Tusculum Street. Many still run on original or early replacement boards, so board upgrades are the job we quote most around the naval precinct.

Flats and terraces beside Garden Island get their own CCEW at the end of each visit, the Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work that state law expects. In blocks nearly a century old, wiring we disturb is brought up to standard or noted in writing. Changing a board means RCD protection on the final subcircuits under AS/NZS 3000, and Type AC devices are unlawful in fresh installations after 1 May 2023.
Near Garden Island, similar-sounding jobs can differ widely. New LED downlights in a renovated Finger Wharf apartment may be straightforward. The same lights in a 1920s Macleay Street flat can mean working through solid masonry and shared ceiling spaces. We inspect, then put one fixed price in writing, and it only changes if you add to the job.
An old board in a Macleay Street flat, smoke alarms due in a Victoria Street rental, or a Woolloomooloo cafe needing more power? Phone 02 8999 3691 to book an on-site look, receive a fixed written quote, and have the workmanship backed for the life of the install.
Residents, landlords and strata committees in the streets around the Garden Island naval base ask us these. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
In most cases. Vans roll from 7am to 5:30pm Monday through Friday and from 7am to 2pm on Saturday, with Sunday off. The ridge streets and the Woolloomooloo waterfront sit on routes we already drive, so phoning 02 8999 3691 early tends to secure a visit that afternoon. Let us know about burning smells or a main switch that will not reset.
No. Garden Island is an active Royal Australian Navy base, and the dockyard is operated by Thales Australia. Access is tightly controlled and work inside is arranged by Defence and its approved contractors. Our work is for the homes, strata buildings and businesses in the surrounding streets of Potts Point, Woolloomooloo and Elizabeth Bay.
Quotes follow a site visit. The buildings around the base range from converted wharf apartments to Victorian terraces and interwar flats, and the effort involved varies a lot. Once we have seen it, the written figure is locked, moving only when you request additions.
Often, yes. Interwar blocks on the Potts Point ridge frequently have old rewireable fuses or early circuit breakers with no RCD protection, and cable insulation can be brittle after decades of use. We test each circuit, explain which parts are sound, and quote a board upgrade or rewire that fits your budget and the building’s strata rules.
It depends on the location of the fault. Wiring beyond your own unit board is usually the lot owner’s, while the main switchroom, risers and hallway lights fall to the owners corporation. Our electrician pins down the failed section and documents it, letting the committee and the owner settle who books the repair.
Yes. Buildings facing Woolloomooloo Bay and the wharves are exposed to salt spray, which corrodes outdoor lights, outlets and connections faster than inland. We use fittings rated for outdoor and coastal exposure, seal entries properly, and check existing balcony circuits for corrosion when we visit.
Often. Potts Point has many heritage-listed buildings, including terraces on Challis Avenue and Kellett Street. Internal rewiring usually needs no approval, but new meter boxes, conduits and exterior lights should stay off street facades. We protect original plaster and joinery and recommend checking with the City of Sydney before any external change.
Each level must have a working alarm. A tenant-reported fault must be fixed within two business days, and alarms past ten years from manufacture must be replaced. Hard-wired alarms must be installed by a licensed electrician. We test, replace and interconnect alarms in units and terraces and supply dated records.
Where you have a dedicated car space, generally yes. In apartment buildings you will need strata approval, and we check the building’s spare capacity before running a dedicated circuit to your bay. Street parking with no private space cannot take a charger, and we do not install on public footpaths.
We cover the Garden Island 2011 area and the streets around it, including Victoria Street, Macleay Street, Tusculum Street, Cowper Wharf Roadway and the Finger Wharf, plus areas near HMAS Kuttabul and the ferry wharf. We also work daily in Potts Point, Woolloomooloo, Elizabeth Bay, Kings Cross, Rushcutters Bay, Darling Point and the CBD.
