Live near the Australian Museum, run a dining room on Stanley Street or manage a block off Crown Street? This month our East Sydney deals also reach College Street, Riley Street and the Oxford Square corner. Bring up the offer as you book and it comes off your job.

East Sydney is a locality inside Darlinghurst and Woolloomooloo rather than a census suburb, so there are no separate housing figures for it, and we judge each home on what we find inside. Every block between William, College and Oxford streets falls within the East Sydney and Darlinghurst Conservation Area, which means older buildings altered many times, with cable from several eras sharing one board. We handle rewiring in older homes, extra circuits and LED lighting upgrades that respect period ceilings.

Trade here runs from the Italian restaurants of Stanley Street, a legacy of the community that gathered there in the 1950s and 1960s, to the education, media and office tenants closer to College Street. We wire kitchens, studios and suites, add commercial electrical capacity and plan shutdowns around service or class times.

Same-day service from our crew reaches the whole pocket between Hyde Park and the Oxford Street edge. Typical urgent jobs here: an espresso machine circuit dropping out before the Stanley Street breakfast crowd arrives, a scorched switch in an older flat, or a stairwell gone dark in a strata building.
East Sydney covers only a few blocks between William, College and Oxford streets, yet it keeps our vans busy. Restaurateurs on Stanley Street, apartment owners along Crown Street, landlords, and offices in the media and education buildings all call on us as their East Sydney electrician. Requests range from a fresh circuit for a pizza oven to smoke alarm replacement before new occupants move in.
Because the locality sits inside a heritage conservation area, much of our work here is quiet detective work: finding where decades of alterations left a circuit without an earth, fitting a modern board without scarring old walls, or tracing an urgent power fault back to its source. From this corner of the city we run jobs every week across the City of Sydney, including Darlinghurst, Woolloomooloo and the CBD next door.

The entire locality lies inside a heritage conservation area. We replace ageing cable and add earthing while leaving facades, joinery and original ceilings intact, running new work through existing voids wherever possible.
In strata buildings the main board, risers and stair lights are usually common property. We work out which side of that line a fault sits on and report clearly to the owner and the building manager.
East Sydney mixes homes with education, media and commercial tenants. We run data cabling, add power along new desk layouts and move circuits when a studio or office changes its floor plan.
Older buildings can still hide boards with rewireable fuses and few safety switches. We replace them with modern enclosures and RCD protection on every final subcircuit, as AS/NZS 3000 requires.

Our licensed electricians regularly open up the older buildings of the East Sydney and Darlinghurst Conservation Area, where circuits from different decades often hang off one tired board.

Before any work starts on a Stanley Street kitchen or a Crown Street flat, you receive one written figure covering the job we inspected, and that figure holds.

When a restaurant near the Australian Museum loses power before lunch, or a unit off William Street keeps tripping, we move quickly and aim to reach you that same day.

More than 250 customers across inner Sydney rely on our crew, including East Sydney restaurateurs, strata managers and residents who heard about us from someone on their block.

Labour on each circuit, board and fitting we install in an East Sydney home, cafe or office is backed by a lifetime guarantee that never runs out.

Ring or book online and mention your cross street, whether there is a loading zone out front, and any building manager we should contact. We then lock in a time that suits you.

An electrician inspects the board and cable paths, then explains your options in plain words. The written fixed figure reaches you before any wall is opened or fitting removed.

Kerbside space near Stanley Street and College Street is hard to find, so we plan the van stop in advance and pull up within the agreed window, phoning ahead if traffic intervenes.

Floors are covered, every offcut leaves with us, and you receive the CCEW plus a short summary of what changed, so any future electrician or strata manager can follow our work.

Back in 2017 Spyro launched the business on a simple idea: turn up when promised and finish the job properly. The team has since grown to more than five licensed electricians, and East Sydney has become familiar ground. We have learnt how hard Stanley Street kitchens work at lunchtime, how strata committees near Crown Street like to be briefed, and why conservation rules shape where a new meter box can sit. Usually the same electrician stays with your job from first look to final test.

Stanley Street was the centre of Sydney’s original Italian community in the 1950s and 1960s and is still lined with Italian restaurants and cafes, many in older buildings. Those kitchens now run far more equipment than their supply was first sized for, so hospitality wiring is work East Sydney needs more than most localities.

Each job we finish in East Sydney is covered by a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, the NSW record that the installation was tested and meets the rules. In buildings as old as many in this conservation area, opening one circuit can expose earlier faults; we fix them or note them in writing. Any board we alter or replace gains RCD protection on its final subcircuits under AS/NZS 3000, and we never fit Type AC safety switches, banned in new work since 1 May 2023.
You get a fixed written price after we have seen the job, never a guess over the phone. Two jobs that sound alike can differ sharply here: new lighting in a renovated apartment near College Street may take a morning, while the same fittings in an older building with solid masonry walls and no roof access can take far longer. Seeing it first lets us commit to one number.
Tripping circuits in a Stanley Street restaurant, a tired board in a Crown Street apartment, or new occupants waiting on smoke alarms? Call 02 8999 3691. A licensed electrician will come out to East Sydney, inspect the problem in person and give you a fixed figure in writing, with the labour guaranteed for life.
These are the questions East Sydney residents, strata managers and Stanley Street restaurant owners put to us most. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
In most cases, yes. Our crews are out from 7am until 5:30pm on weekdays and from 7am until 2pm on Saturdays, and East Sydney is only minutes from the jobs we run in Darlinghurst and the CBD. Ring 02 8999 3691 early and we can usually fit you in before we knock off. A burning smell, a hot switch or a main that refuses to reset is treated as urgent. We are closed on Sundays.
We look at the job first, then send a written fixed price. Guessing from a phone call rarely works here, because a simple request in a modern unit can turn into slow work in an older building with no roof space and thick internal walls. The price we give covers the scope we agreed, and it only changes if you ask us to add something.
Not for most internal work, but it does shape the detail. East Sydney sits within the East Sydney and Darlinghurst Conservation Area, so we keep new meter boxes, conduits and external lights off street facades where possible and protect original plaster, joinery and ceilings inside. If an item may need approval from the City of Sydney, we flag it before quoting so you can check first.
Usually you rather than strata, because the cause is often on your side: a tripped safety switch, a failed breaker or damaged wiring inside the unit. If the problem traces back to the main switchboard, the risers or hallway lighting, that is common property and the building manager takes over. We test, find the source and write it up so both parties can see the answer.
Yes. Stanley Street has been home to Italian restaurants and cafes since its Little Italy days, and kitchens there keep adding equipment. We plan separate circuits for ovens, dishwashers and refrigeration, upgrade boards where supply is stretched, provide shop fit-out wiring for new layouts and install exit and emergency lighting. Noisy or power-off tasks are scheduled outside trading hours.
Warning signs include ceramic fuses you repair with fuse wire, black rubber or cloth-covered cable, power points without an earth pin, lights that dim when an appliance starts, and a board with no safety switches. Older East Sydney buildings have often been renovated in stages, so new and original cable can share a circuit. We test insulation and earthing, then tell you which circuits are sound and which need work.
It depends on parking. Without an off-street space there is nowhere legal to mount one, so a charger needs a garage or basement bay and, in a strata block, the owners corporation’s approval. Where a space exists, we check the board’s spare capacity, run a dedicated circuit and fit the charger. Chargers on public footpaths or kerbs are not something we can install.
We do. East Sydney mixes residents with education, media and commercial tenants, and those spaces change layout often. We run network cabling to desks and meeting rooms, add power points along new partitions, fit LED panels and label every cable at the rack, so the next reshuffle is quicker and costs less.
Yes, with care. Older ceilings can be lath and plaster or pressed metal, where cutting holes risks cracking or damaging original work. We look for existing openings first, choose low-profile LED fittings and, where a ceiling really should not be cut, suggest pendant or wall lighting instead. Every fitting is rated for its location and the circuit is tested before we leave.
All of East Sydney 2010, from Stanley, Crown and Riley streets to the College Street edge by the Australian Museum and Sydney Grammar School, and from William Street down to Oxford Street and Oxford Square. We also work daily in Darlinghurst, Woolloomooloo, the Sydney CBD, St James, Surry Hills, Kings Cross, Potts Point and in every other corner of the City of Sydney.
