Own a terrace off Glenmore Road, run a boutique on Oxford Street or a gallery near Five Ways? Our Paddington offers also cover homes around Trumper Park, the Paddington Reservoir Gardens and William Street. Mention this deal on the phone and we honour it on the job.

Paddington is terrace country. The 2021 Census found 60.5 per cent of dwellings were semi-detached, row or terrace homes, 31.8 per cent flats and only 6.6 per cent separate houses, compared with 65.6 per cent across NSW. By 1883 the suburb already held 2,347 houses, many built speculatively on subdivided estates, and in 1968 its terraces became Australia’s first conservation area. That age shows behind the plaster, so we handle terrace rewiring, board relocations out of front halls and extra kitchen circuits in narrow rear wings.

Oxford Street runs a kilometre of boutiques, cafes and personal services, while William Street, Five Ways and the back streets add galleries, interior design studios, antique dealers, hotels and restaurants. Paddington Markets trades every Saturday at the Uniting Church. For these tenancies we deliver commercial electrical repairs, display lighting and circuits for new layouts.

Our same-day service covers Paddington from the Victoria Barracks end to Five Ways. Frequent urgent calls here: a terrace losing power to its upper floor after a storm, an Oxford Street shop with dead lighting on a Saturday, and a flat’s hot water system tripping its safety switch.
Owners who have restored their terraces make up much of our Paddington work, alongside landlords, since the Census found 44.6 per cent of homes on a lease. Many households are couples without children, just over half of families here, and they often want better lighting, more outlets and a modern board without cutting into cornices or ceiling roses. As a Paddington electrician we also look after boutiques on Oxford Street and galleries tucked into the back streets.
Parts of Paddington fall under the City of Sydney south of Oxford Street and under Woollahra Council to the north, so approvals for visible external work can differ by side. Near Five Ways and along Oxford Street, shops and homes share the same streetscape. An urgent electrical fault in either setting gets priority from our crews working across the Eastern Suburbs.

Paddington was largely built out in the late 1800s and became Australia's first conservation area in 1968. We renew old cable, add earthing and fit new circuits while protecting cornices, roses and street facades.
Flats account for 31.8 per cent of Paddington dwellings, with many studios and one-bedroom units. We add outlets where furniture blocks the only socket and sort lot versus common property faults.
With 44.6 per cent of homes rented, agents call us between tenancies to replace expired smoke alarms, test RCDs and supply dated records for the landlord's compliance file.
A kilometre of fashion boutiques, cafes and personal services lines Oxford Street. We upgrade display lighting, add power for new fixtures and book disruptive work outside trading hours.

We have pulled cable through plenty of Paddington terraces, working around party walls, lath and plaster and original joinery without leaving scars behind.

Before quoting, we inspect the board and trace the cable routes. A two-storey terrace off Glenmore Road and an apartment near Oxford Street each get their own written figure.

When a Paddington terrace loses power or a boutique goes dark on a trading day, the call is lifted above routine work so someone gets there quickly.

Our 250+ customers include restoration-minded terrace owners, Oxford Street retailers and landlords, and Paddington referrals tend to travel from one terrace row to the next.

Wiring we run through a Paddington terrace, often hidden behind restored plaster or under original boards, carries a lifetime labour guarantee, so you never pay to reopen our work.

Give us the address and access details, such as a rear lane gate, steep front steps or residents’ parking. We then book a time that suits your household or trading hours.

After inspecting the board and cable paths, we explain the options plainly and send a written fixed figure for you to approve before any floorboard comes up.

Residents’ parking rules make vans awkward in Paddington, so we sort a legal spot in advance and turn up inside the promised window. Oxford Street hold-ups mean a phone call from us, not silence.

Original timber floors stay under drop sheets, scraps go in our bins, and your paperwork lists every change made to the terrace alongside its compliance certificate.

Since Spyro opened the doors in 2017, five-plus licensed electricians have joined the crew. Paddington tests the care we put into older homes: a terrace may hold several eras of wiring in a single wall. We work carefully around plaster, keep conduits off facades and talk through each step with owners. From a board upgrade in a Glenmore Road terrace to shop lighting on Oxford Street, one crew sees each job through.

With 60.5 per cent of Paddington homes being terraces or row houses, many still rely on a single pendant per room and dim hallways that were never designed for modern living. Restorations here often call for better light that respects ornate ceilings and conservation area rules.

Paddington owners get a CCEW from us for each piece of work, as NSW law demands. In terraces more than a century old, we bring any wiring we disturb up to standard or flag it clearly in writing. Once a switchboard is altered, AS/NZS 3000 requires RCD protection on the final subcircuits, and we install Type A or better since fresh installations have not been allowed Type AC devices from 1 May 2023.
Paddington quotes are fixed and written before we begin. The difference between two similar jobs can be large here: swapping lights in a modern apartment near Oxford Street is quick, while doing the same in a three-storey terrace with lath ceilings, steep narrow stairs and cramped roof access takes careful planning and more hours. We inspect first so the figure holds.
Old fuses in a Glenmore Road terrace, a rental smoke alarm deadline, or a boutique on Oxford Street needing brighter display lighting? Call 02 8999 3691. We see it in person first, commit to a written fixed figure, and our labour stays covered for good.
Paddington terrace owners, landlords, flat residents and Oxford Street retailers put these questions to us most. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Frequently, yes. Vans are out weekdays from 7am to 5:30pm and Saturdays from 7am to 2pm, and Paddington lies on the inner east loop we drive daily. A call before midday often turns into an afternoon visit. Mention any scorch marks, crackling or a main switch that will not hold, as those take priority.
We only price after inspecting. Terraces here vary widely in how they have been rewired over the decades, and access through lath ceilings, narrow stairwells and brick party walls changes the labour involved. Once we have seen the site, we send a written fixed figure for the agreed scope. It stays the same unless you ask us to add extra items.
It shapes how visible work is done rather than stopping it. Paddington became Australia’s first conservation area in 1968, and both the City of Sydney and Woollahra Council care about street facades. Internal rewiring is usually straightforward. We keep new meter boxes, conduits and external lights off front elevations where possible, and suggest checking with the relevant council before changing anything visible from the street.
It depends on which side of Oxford Street you are on. Properties south of Oxford Street fall under the City of Sydney, and those to the north sit within the Municipality of Woollahra. That matters if your work affects the facade or needs approval. We can point you in the right direction and plan the electrical work to fit whichever council’s conditions apply.
In most cases, yes. Cloth or rubber insulated cable in older Paddington terraces becomes brittle, often lacks a proper earth, and usually sits on a fuse board with no RCD protection. We test the existing circuits, show you which are sound and which are failing, and quote a staged or full rewire that protects your plaster and original features.
Landlords must keep a functioning alarm on every floor, fix one within two business days of a tenant flagging it, and swap out any alarm older than ten years from its date stamp. Hard-wired units need a licensed installer. As 44.6 per cent of Paddington homes are rented, we do many of these checks and can arrange smoke alarm testing between tenancies with dated records.
It depends where the fault is. Circuits from your unit’s own board are generally the lot owner’s responsibility, while the main board, common area lights and shared supply belong to the owners corporation. With close to a third of Paddington dwellings being flats, we trace the fault first and give both the owner and strata manager a clear written report.
Sometimes. The Census averaged 1.1 vehicles per Paddington dwelling, and many terraces have no driveway. Where you have a rear lane garage or a basement car space in a strata building, we check board capacity, run a dedicated circuit and install the charger. Chargers on public footpaths are not something we can install.
Yes. The back streets hold many galleries, interior design studios and antique dealers, often in converted terraces or corner shops. We install adjustable track lighting for artwork, add power for workstations and equipment, and run data points for small offices. Work can be scheduled around exhibitions or opening hours.
All of Paddington 2021, including Oxford Street, Five Ways, William Street, Glenmore Road, Underwood and Gordon Streets, the Town Hall and Juniper Hall end, Victoria Barracks, Trumper Park, White City and the Moore Park Road edge. We also work daily in Woollahra, Edgecliff, Darlinghurst, Rushcutters Bay, Moore Park, Surry Hills and Darling Point.
