When that happens the network side is Ausgrid, but everything from the point of attachment inwards is ours.

Where a switchboard is replaced or altered, AS/NZS 3000 requires RCD protection on the final subcircuits, so the board comes up to standard rather than being patched around. Yes, in most cases. We are on the road across the lower North Shore from 7am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 2pm Saturday, and Lane Cove is a short run from the suburbs we already work in. We quote the job, not the hour. A licensed electrician inspects the switchboard, the cable route and the access, then gives you one fixed price in writing before anything is touched. You approve that price first. If opening a wall or ceiling reveals something nobody could see from outside, we stop, show you and requote rather than adding it silently to the invoice.

The first job is working out who owns the fault. Wiring and fittings inside your lot are generally your responsibility, while risers, common area lighting, basement supply and the main building board sit with the owners corporation. We test, tell you plainly which side of the line the problem falls on, and provide a written quote and report the strata manager or committee can act on.
Yes. We check whether the property is single or three phase, whether the switchboard has spare capacity, and how the cable can reach the parking space. The circuit is dedicated and hard wired with a Type A or Type B safety switch as the standard requires. In a strata car park we also handle the metering and the documentation the owners corporation will ask for.
If the whole street is out, that is a network fault and Ausgrid is the call. If only your property is affected, or the service line has pulled away from the house, that is usually our work. We make the site safe, repair the point of attachment and consumer mains, test the circuits and restore supply. Do not go near a fallen line in either case.
Ausgrid makes the property owner responsible for vegetation around private overhead powerlines and private poles, and trimming within three metres of powerlines may only be carried out by a SafeWork-accredited worker. Parts of the Lane Cove area are also mapped as bush fire prone, so we take vegetation near private lines seriously and flag what needs attention.
NSW requires at least one working smoke alarm on every storey of a rented property.
