Northbridge is a house suburb on a Middle Harbour peninsula. The 2021 Census found 74.1 per cent of dwellings were separate houses, against 65.6 per cent statewide, 52.3 per cent had four or more bedrooms and 48.2 per cent were owned outright. Electricity only reached the area in 1916, and the 1920s boom left streets of Federation and Californian bungalows, many since rebuilt as multilevel waterfront homes. We handle rewiring for interwar bungalows, lighting for split-level extensions and switchboard replacements where the meter box still holds ceramic fuses.

Commercial work here centres on Sailors Bay Road: Northbridge Plaza, opened in 1961 and enlarged in 1984 and 2007, the interwar pair of shops at Bonds Corner, and the offices along the strip. We look after tenancy lighting, shop and office electrical, exit signs and new circuits for cafe kitchens, timed so trading carries on.

Northbridge gets same-day service from crews already working across the Long Gully Bridge. Typical urgent calls on the peninsula: a pool pump circuit tripping the whole house, storm-soaked garden lights on a sloping harbour block, a bungalow board overheating under summer air conditioning load, or a dead circuit in a rear extension.
Close to half of Northbridge homes are owned outright and the average household holds 2.9 people, so most of our clients here are settled families and downsizers improving houses they plan to keep. They ask for extra circuits during kitchen rebuilds, lighting for sandstone steps down the garden, charging points in double garages and fault finding in homes altered several times since the 1920s. As your Northbridge electrician we also do smaller jobs for retailers along Sailors Bay Road.
The work shifts with the terrain. Up near Eastern Valley Way and the Plaza, lots are flatter and access is simple; out towards Hallstrom Point, Clive Park and the Widgewa Road foreshore, blocks fall away towards the water and boards often hide under decks or in lower garages. When a harbour storm knocks a circuit out, our emergency electricians come over from jobs elsewhere across the North Shore that same day.

In 1922 Northbridge added more new homes than every municipality except Canterbury and Randwick. We replace tired cabling, add earthing and run fresh circuits while keeping leadlights, picture rails and decorative ceilings intact.
More than half the dwellings here have four or more bedrooms. Larger homes carry larger loads, so we add circuits for ducted air, home offices and second kitchens without overloading the main board.
Bush and water wrap three sides of the peninsula. Pool pumps, garden lighting and outdoor outlets near Sailors Bay and Long Bay need weatherproof fittings and RCD protection that copes with damp gullies.
From Northbridge Plaza to the two-storey shops at Bonds Corner, the retail strip needs maintenance planned around opening hours. We handle lighting upgrades, extra power points, emergency lighting and fault calls for tenants.

We have traced plenty of 1920s cable runs through Northbridge bungalows, from cramped subfloors between brick piers to roof spaces above the original ornate ceilings.

A Weetawa Road bungalow and a glass-fronted rebuild near the baths need very different labour, so each gets its own fixed figure in writing once we have inspected.

If a storm off Middle Harbour kills power to half the house, or a board near Northbridge Plaza starts smelling hot, someone is sent that day instead of next week.

Over 250 customers have used us, and on the peninsula many referrals come from neighbours on the same ridge-top street or from traders along Sailors Bay Road.

Everything we install in a Northbridge home, from a new garage board to lights down the harbour steps, sits under our lifetime labour guarantee for as long as you own it.

Give us the street name and let us know if the house sits above or below the road. Some Northbridge driveways are steep, so we note parking and access before offering a slot.

We walk the job, look at the board and the route the cable must take, then email one fixed figure. It changes only if you decide to add more work.

Our vans come over the Long Gully Bridge or up Eastern Valley Way and arrive inside the booked window. If Cammeray traffic slows us, we phone before the window closes.

Floors are covered, offcuts go back up the driveway with us, every circuit we touched is tested and you receive the compliance certificate before we leave.

Spyro opened our doors in 2017, and the crew now numbers five-plus licensed electricians. Northbridge work rewards patience: old bungalows with layers of alterations, large houses on awkward blocks and owners who want straight explanations. The electrician who quotes your job is the one who does it, whether that is a smoke alarm refresh near Warners Park or a full rewire ahead of a renovation off Strathallen Avenue.

The 2021 Census recorded 1.9 motor vehicles per Northbridge dwelling and 74.1 per cent separate houses, so most families have a garage or carport and more than one car. That makes home charging a natural next step on the peninsula.

NSW rules require a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work on every job, and each Northbridge visit gets one. In bungalows from the 1920s building surge, that record often notes old wiring we uncovered and fixed, not only the new part. Touch or swap a board and AS/NZS 3000 expects residual current protection across its final subcircuits; the Type AC ban for fresh installations, in place from 1 May 2023, means we choose Type A units or better.
We price after seeing the house, never by guessing on the phone. Adding a circuit to a single-level bungalow near Northbridge Plaza can be a morning’s job. The same request in a four-level waterfront home below Coolawin Road may involve long cable runs through several floors and core holes through concrete slabs. Looking first lets us put one fixed figure in writing and stand by it.
Planning a kitchen rebuild off Baringa Road, a charger for the garage or lighting for the steps down to the water? Phone 02 8999 3691 to have one of our licensed electricians inspect your Northbridge home, explain the options plainly and put a fixed figure in writing, backed by our lifetime labour guarantee.
These are the questions Northbridge homeowners, renovators and shopkeepers raise with us most. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Most days, yes. Our vans are out from 7am until 5:30pm on weekdays and from 7am until 2pm on Saturday, and the peninsula is a short hop over the Long Gully Bridge from our other North Shore jobs. Ring 02 8999 3691 early and describe the fault. A burning smell, a hot board or power that will not come back moves ahead of planned work. Sundays we are closed.
We look first. Two requests that sound the same, such as new LED downlights, can differ widely between a single-storey bungalow near Eastern Valley Way and a split-level house stepping down towards Sailors Bay. After the visit you receive a written fixed price covering labour, materials and the compliance certificate, and it only moves if you ask us to add work.
It is worth checking. Power arrived here in 1916 and building took off after 1922, so many original homes were wired between the wars and then extended in stages. Rubber-insulated cable, missing earths and boards without RCDs are common finds. We test each circuit, report what is sound and what is not, and quote a staged or complete rewire to suit your renovation plans.
Yes. Plenty of peninsula homes have a pool or spa on a terraced garden above the water. We run dedicated circuits for pumps, heaters and chlorinators, fit weatherproof outlets and isolators, confirm the equipotential bonding is in place and put everything behind RCD protection. On steep sites we route cables well clear of retaining walls and established planting.
It can. Northbridge is ringed by bush and water on three sides, from Flat Rock Gully and Munro Park to the Middle Harbour foreshore. Falling branches, possums in roof spaces and damp gullies all show up in fault calls. We inspect outdoor fittings and roof-space cabling for damage. If a tree has brought down the line to the house, keep well away, call Ausgrid on 13 13 88 and ring 000 if anything is alight.
Occasionally. The Long Gully Bridge sits on the state roads heritage register, and Willoughby City Council keeps its own list of local items. For most houses the electrical work is internal and unaffected. Where a home is listed, we keep new meter boxes, conduit and external lights discreet and suggest you confirm with council before changing anything visible from the street.
Sometimes, but it needs measuring. Many Northbridge boards were last touched decades ago and now feed ducted air, pool gear and induction cooking. We check the incoming supply and the existing load, then tell you whether both can be added, whether load management is needed or whether a new switchboard makes more sense before anything else goes on.
We do. The strip runs from Northbridge Plaza past the interwar facades at Bonds Corner, with cafes, services and offices in between. We handle commercial electrical maintenance, lighting upgrades, exit and emergency lights, extra power for kitchen equipment and fault finding, and we book disruptive work before opening or after close so customers are not affected.
Yes, after a few checks. Many Northbridge lots are large enough for a studio, pool house or secondary dwelling. We confirm the main board has spare capacity, run a correctly sized submain to a new distribution board in the outbuilding, and add lighting, power and air conditioning circuits. On sloping lots we plan the cable route to avoid rock shelves and retaining walls.
Yes. Long flights of sandstone steps and terraced gardens are typical on the Sailors Bay and Long Bay sides of the peninsula. We fit low-glare step lights, bollards and garden spots on RCD-protected outdoor circuits, with sensors or timers so they switch off by themselves. Fittings are rated for damp positions near the harbour and cabling is protected where it runs through garden beds.
All of Northbridge 2063, including Sailors Bay Road, Strathallen Avenue, Eastern Valley Way, Northbridge Plaza, Bonds Corner, Clive Park, Warners Park, King Park, Hallstrom Point and the streets down to the Northbridge Baths. We also work regularly in Cammeray, Castlecrag, Naremburn, Willoughby, Cremorne, Crows Nest, Middle Cove and Castle Cove.
