Cottage Point is tiny and isolated. The 2021 Census recorded just 96 residents, 58 private dwellings and a median age of 60, all inside Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park where Cowan Creek meets Coal and Candle Creek. There is no town water, homes rely on tanks and pumps, and many sit on steep sandstone lots above the waterline. We wire and maintain pressure pumps, add generator inlets, run power down to jetties and upgrade boards so a bush home copes with long outages.

Commerce here centres on the Cottage Point Inn, a waterfront restaurant reached by road, boat and seaplane, plus the Cottage Point Rural Fire Brigade station. We keep commercial kitchens and venues supplied, service outdoor and jetty lighting, and look after pumps and critical circuits for community facilities.

Despite the 38 kilometre run from the CBD, Cottage Point can still get same-day service on most weekdays. Urgent calls here tend to be a tank pump that has stopped, storm or fire damage to the private supply, or a generator changeover that will not switch back.
Nearly everyone we help in Cottage Point owns a waterfront or bush home they value for its quiet, and they expect work that stands up to the conditions. Residents want pumps that keep running, lights that make the steep paths safe, and boards that recover cleanly after the grid drops out. As a local electrician for Cottage Point we also wire workshops and sheds, extend circuits to jetties and fit energy-saving LED lighting that eases the load on backup systems.
Fire has shaped the place. In January 1994 flames ran across Cottage Point Road, the brigade saved every house, and residents went about 13 days without mains power because poles burnt all the way to Terrey Hills. That history is why we plan for resilience, and why an emergency callout here is treated seriously across the Northern Beaches.

Cottage Point has no town water, so every home depends on tanks and electric pumps. We give pumps dedicated protected circuits, replace failed pressure switches and make sure they can run from backup power.
After the 1994 fire, residents waited about 13 days for power. We install generator inlets with proper changeover, protect critical circuits and keep outdoor wiring clear of fuel loads around the house.
The waterfront inn serves diners arriving by car, boat and seaplane. We maintain kitchen equipment circuits, exit and emergency lighting and outdoor lighting on decks exposed to the creek.
Houses drop down sandstone slopes to Cowan Creek and Coal and Candle Creek. We run submains to jetties and boatsheds, light long stairways and choose fittings built for damp, shaded bush sites.

Our licensed electricians understand remote bush and waterfront sites like Cottage Point, where tank pumps, generators and long cable runs to jetties are part of normal household wiring.

Every Cottage Point job is scoped in person, because a pump circuit near Cottage Point Road and a jetty feed down a sandstone slope need very different labour and materials.

If fire, storm or a failed pump leaves you without water or power, we move Cottage Point to the front of that day’s list and bring spares for the long drive.

Residents of small Pittwater and Ku-ring-gai Chase communities feature among our 250+ customers, and they often recommend us to neighbours who share the same road in.

The labour on each circuit we install in a Cottage Point home, shed or jetty is guaranteed for life, including cabling buried along steep bush paths.

Tell us which road you are on, whether the house is reached by stairs or an inclinator, and any gate codes. With a single road in, we plan tools and parts before leaving.

We inspect the board, pumps and any generator setup, then send one written figure listing each item, so you can decide without being rushed.

The trip along Liberator General San Martin Drive is long, so we give a realistic arrival window and ring ahead if traffic or roadworks change it.

Offcuts and packaging leave the national park with us, paths are left clear, and you receive the compliance certificate plus notes on your pump and backup circuits.

Spyro set up the business in 2017 and has since built a crew of five-plus licensed electricians. Cottage Point is one of the most remote places we cover, and we treat each visit carefully because there is no quick return trip for a forgotten part. We look after water pumps, generator connections, jetty lighting and board upgrades for homes that must keep running when the grid does not, and one electrician owns each job.

In the January 1994 fire every power pole through the park to Terrey Hills burnt and Cottage Point went about 13 days without mains supply, with no town water to fall back on. For homes that depend on electric pumps, planning for long outages is the single most valuable electrical upgrade here.

Each Cottage Point visit closes with a CCEW, the Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work that NSW requires, lodged once testing is done. Remote bush homes often have wiring added by different people over the years, so we test anything we disturb and report what we find. A new or modified board must carry RCD protection on every final subcircuit under AS/NZS 3000, and the Type AC switch has been banned from fresh installations here and statewide since 1 May 2023.
We give you one written price before any work begins. Two jobs at Cottage Point rarely compare: swapping a pump circuit beside a house on Cottage Point Road is contained, while running a new submain down a long sandstone slope to a jetty on Coal and Candle Creek means trenching, conduit and weatherproofing. We look at it properly, then quote.
Tank pump struggling, no safe way to connect a generator, or jetty lights that died last winter? Call 02 8999 3691. A licensed electrician will make the trip to your Cottage Point home, check the whole setup and send a written price for the work.
These questions come most often from Cottage Point residents and the people who run facilities on the point. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Often we can. Our electricians work 7am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 2pm Saturday, closed Sunday. Cottage Point is a long drive along Liberator General San Martin Drive, so an early call gives us time to reorganise the run. No water because a pump has failed, or damaged wiring after a storm, is treated as urgent.
We inspect first and quote once. Travel time is part of the job, so we bundle tasks where we can and bring likely spares to avoid a second trip. The written figure lists what is included and does not change unless you ask for more work while we are on site.
Yes. Without town water, a power cut here also stops your pumps. We install an approved inlet and changeover switch so a generator can run the house, or just an essentials section with pumps, fridge and lights. It keeps the network safe from back-feed and makes long outages far easier to ride out.
Keep pumps on protected dedicated circuits, move outdoor fittings away from leaf litter and timber, and make sure your generator connection works before summer. We also check that exterior cable is enclosed and not exposed to ember attack. Cottage Point’s brigade has defended the area since 1957; good wiring helps you support their work.
Sometimes. We often find undersized cable, a tired pressure switch, corroded connections in a damp pump shed or an RCD tripping from moisture. We test the circuit and the motor supply, fix the electrical side and tell you plainly if the pump itself needs a plumber or replacement.
Yes. Many homes drop steeply to Cowan Creek or Coal and Candle Creek. We run a correctly sized submain in protected conduit, fit weatherproof lighting and outdoor power points, and put the jetty on its own RCD. Long runs need careful cable sizing so voltage stays healthy at the far end.
It can be very useful. The 2021 Census recorded two vehicles per dwelling at Cottage Point, and public chargers are a long way off. After confirming the house supply has headroom, we lay a separate cable out to where you park and configure the unit to charge within that limit, including a slower setting for times the generator is running.
We do. The Cottage Point Inn and community buildings need kitchen circuits, exit and emergency lighting, and deck lighting that survives the waterfront. We schedule work around service times, test safety switches and emergency lights, and document everything for the operator’s records.
We recommend it. Interconnected mains-powered smoke alarms with battery backup mean an alarm in one room sets off every unit, which matters in split-level houses on steep blocks where bedrooms sit a floor away from living areas. With a median resident age of 60, many owners also like the lower upkeep of long-life backup cells. We place alarms to suit your layout and test the lot before we leave.
