Haymarket is the most apartment-heavy area we service. The 2021 Census recorded 98.8 per cent of dwellings as flats, only six separate houses, and 75.6 per cent of homes rented. Median age was 30 and 53.5 per cent of dwellings have two bedrooms, many shared by students. Towers such as The Peak above Market City sit beside older walk-ups converted from warehouses, so we see everything from modern unit boards to tired original wiring in early conversions.

Haymarket takes in most of Sydney’s Chinatown and Thaitown, so Asian restaurants, grocers and a Market City food court sit alongside Paddy’s Markets and the Capitol Theatre. We run commercial electrical work for kitchens and retail: three-phase supply for woks and ovens, refrigeration circuits, signage, exit lighting and repairs timed around service.

Same-day service in Haymarket covers Dixon Street, the Market City block, Thaitown and the streets up to Central. Urgent jobs here tend to be a wok burner circuit failing during dinner rush, an apartment with no power after a storm leak, or shopfront signage shorting out.
Haymarket’s residents are young and highly mobile, and 87 per cent were born overseas according to the 2021 Census. That shapes our work: property managers call about lease changeovers, students call when a kettle trips the whole unit, and restaurant owners on Dixon Street need circuits that cope with heavy cooking loads. As a Haymarket electrician we also look after Asian grocers, market stalls and upstairs offices that keep long trading days.
Buildings here range from Edwardian market structures to recent towers, often on the same block. We have worked in basements beside the old Hay Street market walls and on upper floors overlooking the light rail at Capitol Square. When a fault cannot wait, our urgent callout team reaches Haymarket fast from anywhere in the City of Sydney, and we keep noisy work outside peak dining hours wherever possible.

Chinatown and Thaitown kitchens run high-heat woks, steamers and multiple fridges. We upgrade supply, add dedicated circuits and fit protection that suits commercial cooking equipment.
About three quarters of Haymarket homes are rented, many by students. We replace expired smoke alarms, test safety switches and fix overloaded outlets between leases.
The 1909 market walls and early twentieth-century warehouses now hold shops and flats. We run new cable through thick masonry without damaging preserved facades or original features.
Nearly every Haymarket home is in a flat or apartment. We trace faults between individual unit boards, risers and common-area lighting and report clearly to building management.

Our licensed team knows Haymarket’s blend of Edwardian market buildings, converted warehouses and newer towers, and how each one feeds power through shared risers and meter rooms.

After an inspection we send one written figure. A dumpling kitchen on Dixon Street and a two-bedroom flat above Market City are quoted separately, because their loads differ so much.

If a Thaitown restaurant loses a circuit before dinner or a Hay Street unit goes dark, we reshuffle the day so an electrician gets there quickly.

Restaurant owners, landlords and tenants across Haymarket are among the 250+ customers who have reviewed us, many referred by another business on the same street.

Whether it is a new range circuit behind a Chinatown kitchen or lights in a student flat, our labour on that work stays guaranteed for life.

Name the building, floor and nearest loading zone on Hay, Sussex or Thomas Street. From there we pick a time that fits around your trading or your tenants.

We test the circuit, check capacity at the board and explain the fix in plain words. A fixed price follows in writing, often the same day.

Parking near Paddy’s Markets is tight, so our electrician plans the drop-off in advance and arrives in the agreed window, calling ahead if Central traffic slows things.

Kitchens get wiped down, shop floors vacuumed, and the owner is handed the compliance certificate with a brief note for the landlord or strata manager.

Our five-plus licensed electricians all trace back to one founder, Spyro, who began trading in 2017. Haymarket became one of our regular runs because its restaurants, grocers and apartment blocks need quick, careful work in tight spaces. We have learnt to schedule around lunch and dinner service, to work with building managers who control access, and to explain findings clearly for owners who manage from overseas.

Haymarket has been Sydney’s Chinatown since the 1920s, and Dixon Street was pedestrianised in the 1980s to encourage restaurants along it. Those kitchens run heavy equipment from supplies installed decades ago, so kitchen electrical work is our most frequent commercial job here.

Every Haymarket job is signed off with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, as the law in NSW demands. In buildings where early conversions left mixed wiring, we note anything unsafe we find. Replacing or altering a switchboard means AS/NZS 3000 RCD protection on the final subcircuits, and we never use Type AC safety switches, which have been banned in new work since 1 May 2023.
We give a fixed written price after seeing the site. Costs vary widely in Haymarket: adding a power point in a recent tower unit with good ceiling access is simple, while running a new three-phase feed through a masonry Edwardian building to a busy restaurant takes planning and coordination. We inspect first, then commit to a clear figure.
Restaurant on Dixon Street needing more power, a student flat with dead lights, or a Thaitown shopfront with failing signage? Call 02 8999 3691. We inspect in person, give a firm written price and back our labour with a lifetime guarantee.
Restaurant owners, landlords, students and strata managers in Haymarket ask us these most often. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Usually. We work 7am to 5:30pm weekdays and 7am to 2pm on Saturdays, and Haymarket is one of our closest service areas. A morning call to 02 8999 3691 often has a van outside by the afternoon. If a kitchen is down during trading or something smells hot, tell us straight away so we can prioritise it.
We price every job after seeing it. In Haymarket, the difference between a straightforward apartment repair and a restaurant supply upgrade is enormous, and access in older market buildings adds its own complications. After inspecting, we provide a fixed written quote, and it stays the same unless you add to the scope.
Overloaded circuits from adding equipment over the years, tripping caused by moisture near dishwashers and steamers, and supplies that were never sized for modern commercial kitchens. We find the weak points, balance loads across phases and add dedicated circuits so one fault does not shut the whole kitchen during service.
Wiring from your own unit board into your rooms normally belongs to the lot owner, while main switchboards, risers, corridor lights and lifts are usually common property. With 98.8 per cent of Haymarket homes in flats, we pin down where the fault sits and send owner and building manager the same written report.
Yes. Haymarket has heritage items such as the Hydraulic Pump Station on Little Pier Street and the Corporation Building at 181 to 187 Hay Street, plus the preserved 1909 market walls. We route new cables discreetly, avoid drilling into protected features and consult the owner or heritage adviser when work is near significant fabric.
Every storey of a NSW rental needs a working alarm. Once a tenant reports a fault you have two business days to fix it, and any alarm past ten years from its manufacture date is replaced. Only a licensed electrician may fit hard-wired units. About 75.6 per cent of Haymarket homes are rented, so we handle this often between leases.
Yes. Shopfronts in Chinatown and Thaitown rely on bright signage and display lighting. We install LED signage connections, shop lighting, exit and emergency lights, and power for point-of-sale and display fridges, while keeping the work compliant with building and council requirements.
We do. Upper floors of older Haymarket buildings often hold small offices, agencies and studios. We run data cabling to desks and meeting rooms, install extra power along workstations and label every outlet clearly at the rack so later moves are simple.
Often, yes. Early conversions and older walk-ups can have boards without full RCD protection and limited capacity for air conditioning, induction cooking and heaters. We test the existing board, show you which circuits are unprotected and quote an upgrade that fits the unit and the building’s supply.
All of Haymarket 2000, including Dixon Street, Thaitown, Paddy’s Markets, Market City, the Capitol Theatre, Hay, Quay and Thomas Streets, Ultimo Road, Little Pier Street and the Goods Line end near Railway Square. We also cover Chinatown, Central, Darling Harbour, Ultimo, the Sydney CBD, Chippendale and Surry Hills.
