Mortdale grew in stages: houses opposite Judds Brickworks from 1885, a railway subdivision by 1894, soldier settlers in the 1920s, and Mortdale Heights filling in after the Second World War. Today the Census mix is 42.7 per cent separate houses, 16.2 per cent semis or townhouses and 40.7 per cent flats, almost double the 21.7 per cent NSW share. We rewire older cottages still carrying rubber cable, upgrade boards in postwar brick homes along the B-named Heights streets and repair unit wiring near the station.

Shops cluster on Morts Road and Pitt Street by Mortdale station, around Mortdale Plaza, while light industry and trade premises line Boundary Road in the north-west corner. We fit out cafes and clinics, add three-phase circuits for workshops, repair tripping boards and carry out commercial maintenance for strip-shop landlords.

Same-day service covers all of Mortdale 2223, from Boundary Road down to the bushland edge of Lime Kiln Bay. Urgent jobs we see here include a unit block near Martin Place losing half its supply, crumbling cloth wiring shorting inside a 1920s cottage, and burnt switchboard terminals in a busy Morts Road shop.
Renters and strata owners make up a big slice of our Mortdale bookings, since 36.6 per cent of dwellings were leased at the 2021 Census and two-bedroom homes led the count at 40.7 per cent. Agents need alarm compliance between tenancies, investors want dated paperwork, and owner-occupiers in the older cottages behind Victoria Avenue want power that keeps up with air conditioning and induction. As your Mortdale electrician we also support shopkeepers in the streets named after George Street, Martin Place and Oxford Street in the city.
Up in Mortdale Heights, between Hurstville Golf Course and Oatley Heights Park, the jobs change shape: freestanding postwar houses with garages, gardens and outdoor lighting. A faulty pool pump circuit, a dead garage feed or an electrical emergency after a storm are all routine for our team across St George and Canterbury-Bankstown.

The first Mortdale homes went up in 1885, opposite the Judds Brickworks. Surviving cottages often hide rubber-insulated cable and missing earths, so we test carefully and rewire room by room where needed.
Flats now make up 40.7 per cent of Mortdale dwellings. We handle meter panel upgrades, common-area lighting and lot-by-lot fault finding in blocks close to Pitt Street and Martin Place.
Mortdale Heights was subdivided in 1924 but mostly built after World War II. Those brick homes often need board upgrades, extra kitchen circuits and new garage power for tools and freezers.
Commercial and industrial businesses line Boundary Road in the north-west corner. We install three-phase outlets, machine isolators, high-bay lighting and test-and-tag schedules so workshops stay compliant and running.

Our licensed team has worked through Mortdale’s full timeline, from brickworks-era cottages near Morts Road to Heights homes built after the war and newer units by the railway.

No quote is given until we have seen the job. A second-floor unit on Pitt Street and a Balmoral Road house each get a separate written figure that does not creep.

If a Mortdale shop loses its fridges mid-morning or a rental’s power keeps dropping out, that job goes ahead of routine work and a licensed electrician heads over the same day.

Our 250+ customers include Mortdale landlords, property managers near the station, retirees in the Heights and shop owners who rely on us to keep trading without interruption.

Every circuit we install in Mortdale carries labour guaranteed for life, including rewires behind the lath-and-plaster walls of early cottages and cabling in modern townhouse blocks.

Book by phone or online, and let us know about strata keys, meter cupboard codes or tenant contact details. For Morts Road shops we can arrive before trading starts.

We inspect the board and cable runs, explain what we found in plain words, then email a written fixed price you can forward to your agent or strata manager.

Parking near Mortdale station fills early, so we plan where the van goes and turn up in the window we promised. Running late on Boundary Road? You get a call first.

Floors get covered, cut-ins are patched, removed fittings go to recycling with us, and the compliance certificate arrives with a plain note listing each circuit we touched.

Spyro founded the business in 2017, and our five-plus licensed electricians now cover the St George district daily. Mortdale keeps us busy for good reasons: plenty of rentals needing compliance checks, early cottages whose original wiring has run its course, a strip of shops around the station, and Boundary Road workshops that need three-phase power sorted properly. We quote in writing, keep appointments and treat each Mortdale home as if our own family lived there.

The 2021 Census found 36.6 per cent of Mortdale dwellings rented, above the 32.6 per cent state figure, and 40.7 per cent of homes were flats. That puts a lot of landlords and agents on the hook for alarm rules every time a lease turns over.

Each Mortdale job closes with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, lodged as NSW rules require. Much of the suburb’s housing dates from the 1920s through the 1950s, so the wiring we open up is often older than the owners, and anything disturbed gets fixed or flagged in writing. When we alter or replace a board, AS/NZS 3000 obliges us to add RCDs on the final subcircuits, and Type AC units have been excluded from new work since 1 May 2023.
Mortdale pricing is always a written fixed figure agreed after an inspection. The same request can land very differently here: new power points in a recent Pitt Street unit might be quick, while doing it in a 1920s cottage near Mortdale Memorial Park means lifting boards and dealing with old cable. Looking first means the number we give you is the number you pay.
Tenant chasing a dead smoke alarm, a Heights home still running original fuses, or a Boundary Road workshop short on power? Phone 02 8999 3691 and a licensed Mortdale electrician will inspect in person, write down one fixed price and back the labour for life.
Landlords, strata committees, Mortdale Heights homeowners and Morts Road business owners send us these questions most often. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Generally, yes. Our electricians run Monday to Friday from 7am to 5:30pm and Saturday from 7am to 2pm, and Mortdale is central to the St George streets we cover every week. Ring early and we can usually reach you that afternoon. Burning smells, sparking outlets or a main switch that will not stay up go to the front of the queue. We do not work Sundays.
We only commit to a figure after seeing the job, because Mortdale properties vary so much. Access in a strata unit near the station is different from a timber-floored cottage or a Heights home with a deep roof space. Once inspected, you receive one written fixed price for labour and materials, and it only changes if you ask for more work.
It can be. Homes from Mortdale’s early decades were wired with rubber or cloth insulated cable that turns brittle, and many have had circuits added piecemeal ever since. Warning signs include warm switch plates, flickering lights and fuses that blow often. We insulation-test the existing cable, show you which runs are failing and quote a staged or full rewire depending on what we find.
Normally the owners corporation, since the main switchboard, meter panel and common lighting are common property. Wiring beyond your own unit’s breakers usually belongs to the lot owner. With four in ten Mortdale homes being flats, this comes up a lot. Our electrician isolates the problem, then emails a short report the committee and the lot owner can both rely on.
Three rules matter most. Each storey must carry a working alarm, a reported fault must be fixed inside two business days, and any alarm ten years past its manufacture date has to be replaced. Hard-wired alarms must be fitted by a licensed electrician. We service rental portfolios around Mortdale and give agents dated reports for each property.
Yes. If your Heights home has a detached garage that only ever had a single light, we can run a new submain from the house board, add a small garage board with RCD protection and fit outlets for benches, freezers and power tools. If you plan an EV charger later, we can size the cable for it now.
We do. Workshops, trade suppliers and small manufacturers along Boundary Road often outgrow their original supply. We install three-phase outlets, isolators for machinery and new distribution boards, and we arrange shutdowns around your production schedule. Periodic inspections and emergency lighting tests can be added to a regular maintenance plan.
Absolutely. Each new tenant in a shopfront on Morts Road, Pitt Street or around Mortdale Plaza needs power, lighting and data suited to their layout. We handle shop fit-outs from strip-out to final testing, including exit signs, dedicated appliance circuits and data cabling for point-of-sale and booking systems.
Yes. Where a Mortdale house has a pool, deck or larger garden, we install weatherproof outlets for pumps and heaters, run garden and path lighting on timers or sensors, and make sure every outdoor circuit sits behind a safety switch. Everything is certified once complete.
All of Mortdale 2223, including Morts Road, Pitt Street, Martin Place, Macquarie Place, Oxford Street, Boundary Road, Victoria Avenue, Balmoral Road, Mortdale Heights, Jubilee Park, Hurstville Golf Course and Lime Kiln Bay.
