Ashbury is bungalow country. The 2021 Census recorded 90.2 per cent separate houses, against 65.6 per cent across NSW, and just 1.5 per cent flats. Widescale building began in 1919, and the streets are lined with Californian bungalows, Federation and inter-war homes under heritage conservation. Nearly half are owned outright. We carry out bungalow rewiring, board swaps, new circuits for rear extensions and ducted air conditioning, and lighting upgrades that suit leadlight and picture-rail interiors.

Ashbury has no commercial centre, only a few shops on King Street, so our work here is mostly residential. We still look after those shopfronts, home-based trades and offices, and nearby business owners in Canterbury and Ashfield, adding circuits, lighting and commercial repairs as needed.

We provide same-day service across Ashbury, from Peace Park down toward the Cooks River. Common urgent calls: a 1920s bungalow losing power after a storm, a rewirable fuse blowing repeatedly, a burnt smell from an old light switch, or water in a garage power point.
Families dominate here: couples with children make up 54.5 per cent of Ashbury families, and homes average 3.3 bedrooms. Those big households put pressure on original bungalow wiring, so our calls often come from parents adding air conditioning, a second bathroom, an office or a car charger. As your Ashbury electrician we also help long-term owners, since 48.9 per cent of dwellings are fully paid off, with safer boards and better lighting.
The work follows the streetscape. Behind consistent 1920s facades on Trevenar, Leopold and Goodlet Streets, many houses have had rear extensions or a first floor added, and wiring from different decades often meets at one tired board. Fault finding in a bungalow roof, powering a new rear addition or responding to an urgent electrical fault is routine work for us across the Inner West.

Housing here went up largely from 1919 and is under heritage conservation. We replace aged cable, add earthing and new circuits while keeping leadlights, picture rails and ornate ceilings intact.
Many homes have been extended at the rear or gone up a level. We plan renovation wiring early, size the supply for new rooms and tie old and new circuits together safely.
Almost 84 per cent of Ashbury dwellings have three or more bedrooms. We add power points, split-system circuits and ceiling fans so busy households are not overloading a few original outlets.
Long-held homes often still have rewirable fuses or one old safety switch. We replace these boards with modern breakers and RCD protection on every final subcircuit, sized for future loads.

Having spent years inside Ashbury bungalows, our NSW-licensed team knows how 1920s wiring runs through low roof spaces, fibro gables and brick cavity walls.

We inspect, then send one written amount. A Crieff Street bungalow with an open roof void and a Milton Street house with a first-floor addition get separate quotes.

If a Holden Street house loses power or a King Street shop trips mid-trade, we shift the schedule so an electrician can reach you without delay.

Plenty of our 250+ customers are Ashbury families and long-term owners, and neighbours in these close-knit streets tend to pass our number around.

The labour on every board, circuit and light we install in an Ashbury home carries a lifetime guarantee, including new wiring hidden inside heritage bungalow ceilings.

Call us with your street and anything we should know, like a side gate, a dog in the yard or a tight driveway. We then book a time that suits the family.

We open the board, climb into the roof space, run through the choices and then email a fixed amount, so the final bill matches what you approved.

We turn up inside the agreed window, park clear of your driveway and neighbours’ crossings, and phone ahead if an earlier job runs over.

Polished floorboards get covered, every offcut comes out of the roof space, and you keep a compliance certificate plus a plain list of what we altered.

Since Spyro opened in 2017 the team has grown past five licensed electricians, and Ashbury is one of our steadiest inner west patches. It gives us some of our most satisfying work: bringing 1920s bungalows up to modern standards without spoiling their character, wiring rear extensions for growing families, and fitting car chargers for two-car households. The same electrician generally stays on a job from the first visit to the certificate.

Ashbury households average 1.9 vehicles, against 1.1 in neighbouring Ashfield, and 90.2 per cent of homes are separate houses. Charging at home is far easier on a house block than in a unit tower, so chargers are a regular request here.

Our Ashbury paperwork always includes a CCEW, the state’s proof that the installation meets the rules. Many bungalows here date from the 1920s and have been altered and added to since, so we fix or document any old wiring we disturb. Under AS/NZS 3000, altering a board brings RCD protection to all final subcircuits, and we use Type A or better since Type AC is not allowed in new work from 1 May 2023.
Nothing starts until you hold a signed-off figure from us. Lighting in an original single-storey bungalow with good roof access is often quick, but a house with a first-floor addition may mean running cable between levels and past new ceilings. So we look at your home first, explain the work and commit to one figure.
Rewirable fuses in a Trevenar Street bungalow, a rear extension that needs power, or two cars that need charging? Phone 02 8999 3691 to have the house looked over by a licensed electrician, priced on paper and finished with labour covered for good.
From Peace Park to the Cooks River end, Ashbury families, long-held owners and renovators put these to us regularly. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Usually. Monday to Friday our hours run 7am to 5:30pm; Saturday is 7am to 2pm; Sunday we are closed. Ashbury sits between Ashfield and Canterbury on roads we travel constantly, so ringing 02 8999 3691 before mid-morning tends to land an afternoon slot. Sparks, a scorched odour or a main switch that keeps dropping go to the front of the queue.
It depends on the house, so we quote after we see it. A job in a single-storey bungalow with a roomy roof void is quicker than the same work in a home with a second storey or a closed-in extension. Once we inspect, we commit to a number on paper, and it moves only if you extend the brief.
Not always. Many Ashbury homes date from the building boom that started in 1919, and original rubber-insulated cable becomes brittle with age. We often find rewirable fuses, no earth on older circuits and newer extensions joined to old wiring. We test what is there, show you which circuits are sound and quote a staged or full rewire.
It mainly affects what is seen from the street. Ashbury’s period housing is covered by heritage conservation, so meter boxes, exterior lights and conduit on facades should be kept discreet. Internal rewiring is generally fine. We work around leadlight windows, picture rails and decorative ceilings, and suggest you check with your council before changing anything visible from the front.
Most of Ashbury sits in the City of Canterbury-Bankstown, with some areas in the Inner West Council. That matters when you are planning an extension, a first-floor addition or anything visible from the street. We can advise on the electrical side of your plans, such as supply capacity, meter position and outdoor lighting, and fit in with whichever council approves the build.
As early as possible. Extensions often add a kitchen, bathroom or family room that the original board cannot handle, so we check capacity at the design stage. We rough in cable before walls and ceilings are sheeted, then return to fit off power, lights and appliances. Coordinating with your builder avoids cutting into new plasterboard later.
Yes. With 84 per cent of Ashbury homes having three bedrooms or more, many families add split systems to several rooms or install ducted air. Each unit needs a correctly sized dedicated circuit, and older boards may need upgrading first. We handle the electrical side and work alongside your air conditioning installer.
Yes. Ashbury bungalows often have decorative plaster ceilings, and we take care to fit LED lighting and fans without cracking or cutting original detail. Where possible, we use existing light points or position new fittings to suit the ceiling pattern, and we patch any access holes neatly.
Yes. All our electricians hold NSW licences and are fully insured. We have been operating since 2017 under founder Spyro, and the labour on every installation is guaranteed for life. You also get a CCEW for each job, which is useful for insurance and when you sell.
We cover all of Ashbury 2193, including King Street, Holden Street, Trevenar Street, Leopold Street, Milton Street, Goodlet Street, Crieff Street, Peace Park and Lees Park. We also work regularly in Canterbury, Hurlstone Park, Croydon Park, Ashfield, Summer Hill, Dulwich Hill, Campsie and Croydon.
