Own a Federation cottage off Crinan Street, a unit on New Canterbury Road or a shop near the old Fernhill station site? Hurlo households around Ewen Park, Euston Park and Sawyer Reserve can claim our current specials. Mention the deal on the phone and it comes off your quote.

Hurlo is mostly freestanding homes: the 2021 Census counted 53.4 per cent separate houses, 13.1 per cent semis or terraces and 30.8 per cent flats. Small farms here were carved into housing estates from the early 1900s through World War I, so Duntroon, Melford and Kilbride Street cottages often hide Federation-era wiring behind picture rails. We do board replacements, extra kitchen and laundry circuits, and light and power for rear extensions on those deep backyard blocks.

Trade clusters around Crinan Street, the south end of Duntroon Street and Floss Street, with more shops strung along Canterbury Road and New Canterbury Road. Butchers, cafes, hairdressers and a supermarket need reliable refrigeration and lighting circuits. We carry out shop electrical work, signage feeds and exit lighting with minimal disruption to trade.

Our same-day service covers every Hurlo street, from Garnet Street to Church Street. Typical urgent jobs: a century-old cottage losing a circuit after a storm, a tree-damaged service cable on a leafy side street (we isolate, then refer network faults to Ausgrid), or a shop fridge circuit failing on a hot afternoon.
Families in Federation and interwar cottages make up much of our Hurlstone Park work, alongside unit owners on the main roads and traders around Crinan Street. With 35.9 per cent of homes owned outright, above the NSW figure, many owners have lived here for decades and now want an old fuse panel retired before selling or renovating. Being the Hurlstone Park electrician for these streets means lots of renovation wiring, garden lighting and rewires in homes where earlier owners added circuits piecemeal.
Newer buyers ask different questions: induction cooking, split systems, and whether the board can take a charger. Down by the Cooks River near Boat Harbour and Foord Avenue, damp subfloors can cause nuisance tripping. When something fails suddenly we send an emergency electrician, and we serve the neighbouring streets across the Inner West the same way.

Housing estates replaced small farms here between 1900 and World War I. We swap tired fuse panels, re-run perished cable through lath-and-plaster walls and keep ornate ceilings and leadlight porches undisturbed.
Backyards in Hurlo are generous, so many owners push kitchens and living rooms outward. We plan new circuits, LED downlights, outdoor power and weatherproof lighting for the extension and the deck beyond it.
Flats make up 30.8 per cent of homes, many rising along Canterbury Road and New Canterbury Road. We sort faults inside individual lots and advise strata where common lighting or meter panels are involved.
Homes on the lower streets toward the Cooks River and Boat Harbour sit over moist ground. We check subfloor joints, lift sagging cable off the soil and trace faults behind wet-weather tripping.

Our licensed crew knows the Federation cottages between New Canterbury Road and the Cooks River, including subfloor cable runs that sit close to damp sandstone near the river flats.

Once we have seen your board and ceiling space, you receive one written figure. A Melford Street cottage and a Canterbury Road unit are priced separately because the labour is so different.

If a Hurlo cottage goes dark after a thunderstorm, or a Crinan Street shop loses refrigeration, we move that call ahead of planned work on the same day.

Among our 250+ customers are Hurlstone Park families, landlords and shopkeepers, many referred by neighbours from the Wanderers soccer crowd at Ewen Park or the local chamber.

Labour on every job we do in 2193 is guaranteed for life, whether it is a whole-house rewire in a Duntroon Street home or one new outdoor point near a back fence.

Call or message with your street and a rough idea of the fault. We then pick a slot around school pick-up, your shift or the hours your Crinan Street shop trades.

The electrician inspects the board, roof space and subfloor, talks you through the options, and emails a written fixed quote you can check before saying yes.

Most Hurlo streets allow easy kerbside parking, so we arrive in the agreed window. If traffic on Canterbury Road slows us down, you get a call with a revised time.

Offcuts, packaging and old fittings go back in the van, the floors are vacuumed, and you receive the compliance paperwork together with a list of circuits changed.

Most Hurlstone Park housing went up as farms were subdivided between the early 1900s and World War I, and 53.4 per cent of homes are still separate houses. Many of those cottages carry an original or patched board that was never built for air conditioning, induction cooktops or a car charger.

A Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work follows each Hurlo job, as NSW law requires. In a cottage built before World War I, disturbing old cable often reveals defects, so we report them in writing rather than leaving them hidden. Once we touch the board, the wiring rules in AS/NZS 3000 call for RCDs across all final subcircuits, and we fit Type A units because Type AC has been off the table for fresh work since 1 May 2023.
Each quote is one written figure agreed before we begin. The honest reason we avoid phone estimates: wiring a new range hood in a recent New Canterbury Road apartment might take an hour, while the same task in a Kilbride Street Federation home can mean crawling a low subfloor and threading cable through double brick. We inspect, explain, then commit.
Ready to retire the old fuses in your Crinan Street cottage, light up a new rear deck or fix a shop circuit that keeps dropping out? Ring 02 8999 3691. A licensed electrician will come to Hurlo, look at the job in person and give you a fixed written figure with lifetime-guaranteed labour.
Hurlstone Park homeowners, landlords, unit residents and Crinan Street shopkeepers raise these questions most often. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Often, yes. The team works weekdays from 7am to 5:30pm and Saturdays from 7am to 2pm, and our vans pass through Hurlo regularly on the way between Dulwich Hill and Canterbury. Phone 02 8999 3691 in the morning and there is a good chance of a visit that afternoon. Sparking outlets, a burning smell or a main switch that will not reset take priority over routine bookings.
We give fixed quotes rather than hourly guesses. The same request can differ widely here: adding power in a newer unit on Canterbury Road is quick, while running it through an early 1900s cottage with a low subfloor and hard plaster walls takes much longer. After seeing the job, we put one figure in writing, and it only changes if you decide to add more work.
Usually it is worth it. Much of Hurlstone Park was built in the years from 1900 to World War I, and boards from that era or from later partial upgrades often lack any residual current protection. Ceramic fuses can be rewired with the wrong fuse wire, and earth connections are sometimes missing. We test the circuits first, tell you what is sound, and quote a modern board with RCDs on each circuit.
Water getting into outdoor lights, garden power points or subfloor joints is the usual cause. Homes on the lower streets near the Cooks River, Boat Harbour and Foord Avenue sit over damper ground, and cable lying on soil or connections in old junction boxes can leak current once moisture gets in. We isolate circuits one at a time until the fault shows up, then repair it. Please do not keep resetting a switch that trips repeatedly.
Yes, it is one of our most common Hurlo jobs, because blocks here tend to have larger backyards. We work with your builder from the frame stage, plan circuits for the new kitchen or living space, and check that the existing board can carry the extra load. Outdoor lighting, deck power and a ceiling fan for the alfresco area can all be added at the same time.
Circuits running from your own unit board to your rooms are normally the lot owner’s responsibility. Main switchboards, meter panels, stair lighting and car park circuits are generally common property and belong to the owners corporation. With close to a third of Hurlo dwellings being flats, many on the two main roads, we often trace faults for both parties and put the finding in writing for the strata manager.
Frequently, yes. The 2021 Census recorded 1.4 vehicles per dwelling here, and many cottages have a side driveway or rear lane access. We check spare capacity at the board, which often means upgrading an older board first, then run a dedicated circuit to a wall-mounted charger near where you park. Unit owners need strata approval for charging in shared car parks.
Every level of the house needs a working alarm. Once your tenant tells you one is faulty, the repair clock is two business days, and units older than ten years from the date stamped on the back must come out. Only a licensed electrician may fit hard-wired alarms. About 32 per cent of Hurlo homes are leased, so we do plenty of these checks between tenancies and leave a dated record for your agent.
Yes. The Crinan Street, Duntroon Street and Floss Street shops, plus businesses on Canterbury Road and New Canterbury Road, call us for refrigeration circuits, lighting upgrades, signage supply and exit lights. Many shopfronts are older buildings, so we check the supply before adding load and book noisy work around your trading hours.
