Tamarama is a tiny beach suburb of 1,478 people, and the 2021 Census counted 62.0 per cent of its homes as flats, 23.3 per cent as detached houses and 16.5 per cent as semis or terraces. Homes rise up the valley that runs back from the beach between two headlands, all within reach of salt-laden onshore wind. We look after unit switchboards, coastal-grade outdoor lighting, renovation wiring and rewires in older homes battered by decades of salt wind.

Tamarama is almost entirely residential, with the beach, Tamarama Park and the surf club at its centre. On Census day 2021, 59.6 per cent of working residents were at home, many in finance, law, IT and advertising. Our non-residential work here means home offices and studios, data cabling and lighting and power for strata common areas.

Our same-day service reaches every Tamarama street, from Marks Park down to the beach and up to Birrell Street. Common urgent calls: a salt-corroded outdoor fitting tripping the whole unit, water getting into balcony power after a southerly, or a failed board in an older block above the valley.
Most Tamarama bookings come from apartment owners and landlords, since 45.3 per cent of homes were rented at the 2021 Census and blocks fill much of the valley. Owners renovating flats a short walk from the sand want new kitchens and lighting; agents want smoke alarm compliance sorted between leases; and families in the larger houses want outdoor areas that survive the sea air. As your Tamarama electrician we also set up home offices for the many residents who work from a spare room.
The suburb has electrical history of its own: Wonderland City, the amusement park that ran here from 1906 to 1911, generated power from its own steam plant. Today the challenge is salt, wind and tight access on streets like Kenneth Street and Carlisle Street. When a fault turns urgent, an emergency electrician can usually be there the same day, and we cover the coast right across the Eastern Suburbs.

Flats make up 62.0 per cent of Tamarama dwellings. We work on unit boards, shared meter rooms and common-area lighting, and give strata a clear report on which faults belong to the lot.
Homes here face the open ocean. We replace corroded outdoor lights, power points and exposed terminals with coastal-rated fittings and sealed enclosures, then test circuits that trip after heavy weather.
About 23.4 per cent of Tamarama homes have four or more bedrooms. We upgrade boards and wiring for pools, outdoor kitchens, ducted air and EV chargers without overloading older supply.
About 45.3 per cent of homes are rented and 15.2 per cent sat unoccupied on Census night. We handle smoke alarm compliance between tenancies and safety checks before a home is re-let.

Salt, wind and damp shape how wiring ages above Tamarama beach, and after years in its clifftop and valley buildings our licensed electricians know which fittings and boards give out first.

We look at the job first and give a single written price. A two-bedroom unit on Wonderland Avenue and a sea-facing house on Fletcher Street are quoted separately because the work differs.

A tripping outdoor circuit after a storm or a scorched power point in a rented unit gets pushed up our schedule so you are not waiting days.

Our 250+ customers include Tamarama unit owners, landlords and families, and many locals find us through neighbours along the coastal walk or their strata manager.

Every circuit we install in a Tamarama home carries a lifetime labour guarantee, including outdoor lighting and power built with coastal-rated fittings.

Tell us about parking, stairs and building access, since Tamarama’s valley streets can make carrying gear in awkward. We then book a slot that fits your week and any tenants.

After checking your board and the cable routes, we explain the work in plain language and send a fixed written price before anything begins.

Parking near the beach fills quickly on warm days, so we plan our arrival around it and turn up in the agreed window, calling ahead if Bondi traffic slows us.

We protect floors and balconies, remove all offcuts and packaging, and leave you the compliance certificate with a short note describing each change.

The company began with Spyro in 2017 and now fields more than five licensed electricians. Tamarama is small, but it keeps us busy: apartments above the beach, larger family homes on the headland streets, and plenty of rentals. We handle lighting, switchboards, outdoor power, smoke alarms and home office cabling here, and the same electrician who inspects the job sees it through to the end.

Spyro speaking. Salt creeping into the balcony lights of your Tamarama unit, or a board that drops out whenever it rains? Give me a ring on 02 8999 3691 and I will send an electrician round.

Tamarama sits between two headlands on the open ocean, and most homes have balconies, terraces or gardens exposed to salt spray. Corroded outdoor fittings are the fault we are called to most often here.

Surf-side wiring gets the same paperwork as anywhere in the state: a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work lodged once each Tamarama visit wraps up. Sea air means routine jobs often uncover green, crusted terminals or cable jackets gone brittle, and those findings go on your report instead of being ignored. Swapping or modifying a board brings AS/NZS 3000 residual current protection onto every final subcircuit, and Type AC devices stay out of new work from 1 May 2023.
Your price arrives on paper, fixed, once we have walked through the property. In Tamarama, adding lights to a newer apartment with easy ceiling access can be a short visit, while the same work in an older house on Illawong Avenue with salt-damaged fittings, a tight roof space and outdoor areas to protect takes much longer. Inspecting first means the price reflects your actual home.
Balcony lights corroded by salt, a unit board that trips after rain, or a home office that needs proper power? Dial 02 8999 3691: our licensed crew assesses the problem on site, sets one fixed written price and backs every circuit’s workmanship for as long as you live there.
Tamarama unit owners, landlords and beachside families ask us these questions most often. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Quite possibly. Our team is on the road 7am until 5:30pm on weekdays and 7am until 2pm on Saturdays, and the coast between Bondi and Bronte is territory we cross most days. Phone 02 8999 3691 before mid-morning for the best chance of a visit today. A hot smell, visible sparks or a main switch that trips straight back off all jump the queue.
We look at the job before quoting. Tamarama properties vary widely, from recent apartments with easy access to older houses where salt has damaged fittings and cabling. We inspect, explain the options and give a fixed written price, and any extras you ask for later are quoted separately.
Salt spray is the usual cause. Standard fittings and terminals corrode quickly in Tamarama’s ocean air, and moisture tracking into connections makes circuits trip, especially after rain or a southerly. We replace failed fittings with coastal-rated ones, seal enclosures and put outdoor circuits on their own protection so a garden fault does not shut down the house.
As a rule, cable running from the board inside your apartment to your own rooms is the owner’s concern, while the main switchboard, meter room, stairwell lights and vertical risers belong to the scheme. Apartment buildings hold 62 per cent of Tamarama homes, so the question comes up constantly. Our electrician finds the fault’s origin first, then emails you and your strata manager a plain account of who carries the repair.
The law sets three tests. Every storey of the unit needs a working alarm; once a tenant reports a fault, the repair must happen inside two business days; and an alarm reaching ten years from manufacture must be swapped out. Only a licensed electrician may put in hard-wired units. Rentals account for 45.3 per cent of local homes, so we run these visits regularly and send your agent dated notes.
On Census night 2021, 15.2 per cent of Tamarama dwellings were unoccupied, more than the state average. Homes left empty near the ocean can develop corroded outdoor fittings, failing smoke alarm batteries and tripped circuits nobody notices. We can test safety switches, check alarms and inspect exposed fittings before you return or before new occupants move in.
Yes, where there is off-street parking. The Census recorded 1.6 cars per Tamarama dwelling. For houses with a garage or driveway, we check board capacity, run a dedicated circuit and fit a wall charger. In apartment buildings, we assess the shared supply and prepare what the owners corporation needs to approve a charger in the basement.
Yes. On Census day 2021, 59.6 per cent of working Tamarama residents were at home, many in finance, law, IT and advertising. We add dedicated circuits, extra power points at desk height, wired data to the router and good task lighting, so a spare room works like a real office.
Every one of our electricians is licensed in NSW, and the company holds full public liability insurance. Since Spyro launched the business in 2017, well over 7,000 projects have been completed. The workmanship on circuits we install is guaranteed for life, and your Certificate of Compliance is issued in your name when the job closes.
Tamarama 2026 is covered end to end, including Tamarama Marine Drive, Wonderland Avenue, Pacific Avenue, Gaerloch Avenue, Fletcher Street, Illawong Avenue, Kenneth Street, Carlisle Street, Birrell Street and Thompson Street, plus homes near Tamarama Park, Marks Park and Mackenzies Point. We also work daily in Bronte, Bondi, Waverley, Queens Park, Clovelly and Dover Heights.
