Five Dock began as a house suburb and has been filling in with units ever since the post-war years. The 2021 Census counted 45.3 per cent separate houses, 15.1 per cent semis and townhouses and 36.8 per cent flats, and almost three in four homes hold two or three bedrooms. Older streets keep Federation cottages and California Bungalows, most renovated in stages. We handle switchboard replacements, circuits for rear extensions, garden lighting and extra outlets where a bungalow lounge room was built with just one.

Great North Road runs roughly 500 metres of shops, banks, restaurants and Italian delis between Lyons Road and Queens Road, almost all small independents. For those tenancies we handle commercial electrical repairs, dedicated feeds for display fridges and espresso machines, window lighting and exit signs, booking noisy work around trade so the strip keeps serving.

Our same-day service reaches every Five Dock street between Parramatta Road and the Hen and Chicken Bay shoreline. Typical urgent calls: a bungalow board that trips whenever the kettle and heater share a circuit, a dark stairwell in a post-war walk-up, or a deli cool room that loses power before opening.
Families who have held a Five Dock bungalow for decades, younger buyers gutting one, and landlords with units near the Great North Road shops make up most of our work here. Nearly a quarter of residents reported Italian ancestry in 2021, and plenty of the homes we visit have been extended for several generations under one roof, with original circuits stretched into rooms they were never meant to feed. As a Five Dock electrician we untangle those additions, move meters during renovations and add capacity for ducted air and induction cooking.
Apartment jobs keep growing as well. The Pendium on Garfield Street and the former EnergyAustralia site on Fairlight Street added close to two hundred units between them, and a Sydney Metro West station is planned for the suburb. We look after strata lighting, unit boards and urgent fault calls for owners across the Inner West, from the Iron Cove end of the Bay Run to Barnwell Park.

Many Five Dock Federation and bungalow homes still run on boards patched through several renovations. We replace ceramic fuses, add missing earths and label every circuit so the next owner can find the right breaker.
Flats make up 36.8 per cent of dwellings, from post-war walk-ups to recent blocks like the Pendium on Garfield Street. We trace faults between lot and common property and report plainly to strata managers.
More than 50 heritage items were recorded in Five Dock by 2005, including the Domremy convent group and Five Dock Park. Near listed places we route new wiring discreetly and keep conduits off prominent facades.
Half a kilometre of small independent businesses line Great North Road, Italian delis and restaurants among them. We add dedicated circuits for refrigeration and coffee machines and swap tired display lighting for efficient LEDs.

Our licensed electricians regularly lift ceiling hatches in Five Dock Federation homes and bungalows, so we know where decades of piecemeal additions hide loose joins, missing earths and undersized cable.

You receive one written figure after we see the work. A two-bedroom unit near Garfield Street and a bungalow extension off Ramsay Road get priced separately, never guessed over the phone.

When a Great North Road shop loses power before opening, or a family home goes dark mid-morning, we reshuffle our Five Dock run so the urgent job is reached first.

Over 250 customers have rated our work, among them Five Dock owners near Timbrell Park, unit landlords and delis along the main shopping strip who passed our number to neighbours.

Labour on every circuit we install in Five Dock carries a guarantee for life, from a single garden light near Kings Bay to a full rewire of an interwar bungalow.

Call with your street and a short description of the fault or project. We then offer a window that works around school drop-off at Five Dock Public or your shop’s quiet hours.

We inspect the board and cable routes, talk through the options in plain English, then email a fixed written quote you can weigh up before approving a thing.

Parking beside the Great North Road shops can be tight, so we plan the van stop in advance and ring you if Parramatta Road traffic pushes our arrival back.

Drop sheets protect polished boards, offcuts leave in the van, and you get the compliance certificate plus a note listing each circuit we changed in your house or unit.

Spyro started the business in 2017, and it has since grown to more than five licensed electricians, with Five Dock one of the Canada Bay suburbs we visit most weeks. Much of the work here calls for a light touch: upgrading a Federation cottage without cracking its original ceilings, running power to a bungalow extension, or helping a strata committee in a newer Garfield Street block trace a common-area fault. The electrician who quotes your job usually finishes it.

Only 17.9 per cent of Five Dock dwellings had four or more bedrooms in 2021, against 33.9 per cent across NSW, and many of the suburb’s Federation and bungalow homes have been renovated over the years. Each round of additions tends to leave patchy wiring behind fresh plaster, which is exactly the work we sort out.

A Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work is lodged for every Five Dock job we finish. In a bungalow extended two or three times, altering the board triggers the AS/NZS 3000 rule for RCD protection across all final subcircuits, so we add safety switches throughout the house rather than on the new rooms alone. Type AC devices have been barred from new work since 1 May 2023, so we fit Type A or better.
Nothing starts until you hold a written fixed figure. That matters in Five Dock because two jobs can sound identical and differ a lot: new lighting in a recent Fairlight Street apartment is quick once strata access is arranged, while the same fittings in an older bungalow with a cramped roof space can mean crawling, cutting in and chasing masonry. We look first, then commit to one number.
Planning an extension near Five Dock Park, chasing a tripping circuit in a Great North Road shop, or readying a unit near Garfield Street for new tenants? Ring 02 8999 3691. A licensed electrician will inspect in person, hand you a firm written quote and back the labour for life.
Five Dock renovators, long-time owners, unit landlords and Great North Road shopkeepers ask us these most. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Most days, yes. Our crews work 7am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 2pm on Saturday, with Sunday off. Five Dock sits between suburbs we drive through constantly, so a morning call to 02 8999 3691 usually lands a visit before the day ends. Mention any scorching, buzzing or a main switch that refuses to reset, and that job moves ahead of routine bookings.
We price after seeing it, never before. Swapping a light fitting in a newer unit near Garfield Street is a very different task from the same job in an older bungalow whose ceiling has been re-sheeted twice. Once we have inspected the board, the access and the cable paths, you receive a written fixed figure, and it only changes if you ask us to add something.
Usually because each renovation added load without revisiting the original circuits. We often find a new kitchen hanging off the same circuit as the bedrooms, old rubber cable joined to modern wire in the roof, or a safety switch doing the work of three. We test every circuit, find the leak or overload, and quote to split the load properly, rather than just resetting and leaving.
It depends where the fault sits. Wiring beyond your own unit board is generally the lot owner’s responsibility, while main switchboards, corridor lights and stairwell fittings are normally common property. Flats make up 36.8 per cent of Five Dock dwellings, so we sort this out often. We locate the fault first, then give both you and the strata manager a written finding.
It can shape how the work looks rather than whether it happens. Five Dock has more than 50 listed items, including the Domremy convent group, St Alban’s Anglican Church and Five Dock Park. For homes that are listed or sit within a heritage setting, internal rewiring is usually straightforward, and our care goes into keeping meter boxes, conduits and outdoor lights discreet. Check with the City of Canada Bay if approvals are unclear.
Leases covered 36.7 per cent of Five Dock homes in 2021, so we see this often. NSW landlords need a working alarm on every storey, must fix a reported fault within two business days, and have to replace alarms within ten years of manufacture. Hard-wired units require a licensed electrician. We supply and fit compliant smoke alarms and leave dated paperwork for your agent.
In most houses, yes. The Census shows 1.6 vehicles per Five Dock dwelling, and many freestanding homes have a driveway or garage where a wall charger fits neatly. We check spare capacity at the board, run a dedicated circuit to the parking spot and mount the unit. In apartment blocks we first confirm the owners corporation is happy for a car space to be wired.
Yes. Many Five Dock houses sit on blocks with generous gardens, and owners ask us for weatherproof outlets beside the barbecue, lighting along side paths, power to a studio or shed and switched feature lights for trees. We bury cable to the correct depth, protect each outdoor circuit with an RCD and choose fittings rated for rain and garden sprinklers.
We do. The main strip is packed with small independent traders, including cafes, restaurants and Italian delis, and older tenancies often need more capacity than the original supply was set up for. We lay out circuits for cool rooms, ovens and coffee machines, fit emergency and exit lighting, and time disruptive work outside trading so customers keep coming through the door.
All of Five Dock 2046, including Great North Road, Ramsay Road, Lyons Road, Queens Road, Garfield Street, Fairlight Street, Five Dock Park, Timbrell Park, Halliday Park and the Kings Bay and Hen and Chicken Bay foreshores. We also work each week in Rodd Point, Wareemba, Russell Lea, Canada Bay, Haberfield, Concord, Croydon, Ashfield and Drummoyne.
