Emmeline Wild donated 100 acres of the Vanderville estate for a village in 1858, and The Oaks still feels like one. The 2021 Census found 96.6 per cent separate houses, 61.2 per cent with four or more bedrooms and only 12.4 per cent rented, against 32.6 per cent across NSW. Owners stay and improve, so we rewire older village homes, run submains to sheds, add LED lighting and fans, and upgrade boards on bigger acreage homes.

Village trade clusters on John Street, where the IGA Xpress, Glen’s Bakery Cafe, the pharmacy, the post office and The Oaks Hotel all sit within a short walk. For those businesses and the clubrooms at Dudley Chesham Oval we provide commercial electrical work: refrigeration circuits, kitchen supply, exit lighting and three-phase repairs.

Our same-day service runs from the John Street shops and the RFS shed on McIntosh Street out to rural blocks along Burragorang Road. Typical urgent calls here are shed supply lost after a storm, a pump circuit that will not hold, or water inside an outdoor fitting.
Most of our clients in The Oaks own the home they live in: 34.3 per cent outright and 50.5 per cent with a mortgage. Families are the core, with 55.2 per cent of households couples raising children, so the calls are for bigger kitchens, extra bedrooms, backyard studios and power to the stable or machinery shed. As a local electrician for The Oaks, we also look after the village shops, the oval clubrooms and the odd heritage-era building near Edward Street.
Work changes as you leave the village grid. On streets like Russell, Merlin and William it is usually board upgrades and lighting; out on Montpellier Drive and Burragorang Road it is long cable runs, pumps and outbuildings. After fire season or a severe storm, when a circuit will not hold, we send an urgent callout electrician and still cover the rest of Macarthur from Camden to Picton.

The IGA, bakery cafe, pharmacy and hotel on John Street run fridges, ovens and lighting for long hours. We add circuits, fix tripping cool rooms and upgrade exit lighting without shutting trade.
With 84.8 per cent of dwellings owned outright or mortgaged, renovations are common. We add outlets, fans and lighting as rooms change, and bring older boards up to current RCD rules while walls are open.
Rural blocks along Burragorang Road and Montpellier Drive need power well away from the house. We size submains for long runs, fit sub-boards with safety switches and install weatherproof lighting for sheds and stables.
Dudley Chesham Oval hosts the Tigers rugby league, netball, cricket and horse and pony clubs. We maintain canteen circuits, repair security lighting and test emergency lights so volunteers and visitors stay safe.

Our licensed electricians understand both halves of The Oaks: compact village lots around John Street and larger rural holdings where supply travels a long way to sheds and pumps.

We walk the property first, then commit to one written figure. A lighting job on a William Street home and a submain across a Burragorang Road paddock are priced separately.

Lost power to a stable, a tripping pump or storm-soaked outdoor wiring in The Oaks gets a van redirected to you as quickly as the day allows.

Our 250+ customers include village families, acreage owners and local businesses, many referred by club members at Dudley Chesham Oval or neighbours down the road.

Labour on every circuit, submain and fitting we install in The Oaks is covered for life, which matters when the cable is buried under a paddock.

Tell us whether you are in the village or on acreage, where the gate code is and whether dogs or livestock are about. We book a time that suits farm routines.

After walking the site we explain the job plainly and email a fixed written price covering trenching, cable size and fittings, so the invoice holds no surprises.

The drive out from Camden takes planning, so we leave with the right cable on board and arrive within the booked window, calling ahead if Burragorang Road traffic slows us.

Trenches are backfilled, offcuts and packaging leave with us, and you get the compliance certificate along with a sketch of any buried cable route for future digging.

During the Green Wattle Creek fire in December 2019, The Oaks was among the localities told to monitor conditions, and Endeavour Energy warned that damaged poles would leave several hundred Wollondilly homes without supply for weeks. Wollondilly’s bush fire prone land map was also redrawn on 30 May 2023, so outage planning matters here.

NSW requires a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work whenever electrical installation work is done, and in The Oaks we issue one for sheds, stables and generator inlets as well as houses. Alter or replace a board and AS/NZS 3000 calls for RCDs across the final subcircuits. Type AC units have not been allowed in new work since 1 May 2023, so every board we touch gets Type A safety switches.
The figure we quote is fixed and in writing, set after a site walk. Distances make that essential here. Swapping lights in a village house near John Street is a short job, whereas trenching a new submain across a paddock to a stable off Burragorang Road involves cable sizing, digging and far more hours. Seeing the property first keeps the price honest.
Old board in a village home, a shed that needs proper supply, or a John Street shop with a cool room that keeps tripping? Phone 02 8999 3691. We will walk your property in The Oaks, write down a fixed price and guarantee our labour for life.
Families, acreage owners, clubs and John Street traders in The Oaks ask us these questions most. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Often we do. We work 7am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 2pm on Saturday. The Oaks is further west than most of our Macarthur work, so ringing 02 8999 3691 early in the day gives us time to reroute a van. Exposed wiring after a storm, sparking or a burning smell take priority.
By seeing it first. A village block and a rural holding differ hugely in cable length, trenching and outbuildings. We come out, look at what you want, and put one fixed price in writing before anything starts. That number only changes if you ask for more work.
If it still has rewireable fuses, only one safety switch, or signs of heat damage, yes. Owners here tend to stay, so boards often remain while the house gains air-conditioning, a pool pump or a shed feed. We replace them with breakers, full RCD coverage and spare room for later circuits such as an EV charger.
Yes. We calculate the load and distance, size the submain so voltage holds at the far end, and trench or conduit the cable at the correct depth. At the shed we fit a sub-board with its own safety switches, then lighting, power outlets and any fixed equipment. You receive a sketch of the cable route.
Yes. The 2021 Census averaged 2.6 vehicles per dwelling here, and long drives to Camden or beyond make home charging worthwhile. We check supply and existing load, then install a dedicated circuit with correct RCD protection. On larger blocks the charger can go in a garage or carport well away from the house.
Check the map. Wollondilly Shire Council received a newly certified bush fire prone land map on 30 May 2023, and some properties are now identified that were not before. Mapped land triggers extra building requirements for new development. On the electrical side, we select fittings and cable routes suited to the exposure of your site.
It can be off for a long time. In the Green Wattle Creek fire, damaged poles left hundreds of Wollondilly homes without supply. A generator inlet with a changeover switch lets you keep the fridge, lights and water pump going safely. Afterwards, have the board and outdoor wiring checked before resetting anything that keeps tripping.
Yes. The oval at 40 McIntosh Street is home to the Tigers rugby league, netball, cricket and horse and pony clubs, and canteens and change rooms get heavy use on game days. We repair lighting, add circuits for urns and fridges, and test exit and emergency lights so committees have their records ready.
Just 12.4 per cent of homes here were leased in 2021, but the rules match the rest of NSW. Each storey needs a working alarm, a fault reported by your tenant must be fixed within two business days, and alarms go after ten years from manufacture. Hard-wired smoke alarms must be fitted by a licensed electrician.
Certainly. With 61.2 per cent of homes in The Oaks offering four or more bedrooms, there are plenty of rooms to cool and light. We fit ceiling fans with separate switching, replace old fittings with LED lights and add outdoor lighting over verandahs and driveways, planning cable routes through the roof space.
All of The Oaks 2570: John Street, Edward Street and the Heritage Centre, McIntosh Street and Dudley Chesham Oval, Russell, Merlin, William and Burragorang Streets, Montpellier Drive and the rural properties along Burragorang Road. We also cover Oakdale, Picton, Camden, Camden South, Elderslie, Thirlmere and Tahmoor.
