Killara splits between grand older houses and apartments. The 2021 Census counted 54.7 per cent separate houses and 42.6 per cent flats, almost double the NSW flat share of 21.7 per cent, while 43.8 per cent of dwellings had four or more bedrooms. Federation and Californian bungalow homes went up on large lots after the station opened in 1899, some over an acre. We handle careful rewiring of period homes, lighting for big gardens, and switchboard work in strata blocks.

Killara was planned as a residential suburb with very few shops. Commercial activity sits along the Pacific Highway, including the Greengate Hotel, a lighting store and a pool supplies outlet, plus schools, churches, the golf club and tennis club. We maintain lighting, add circuits and fix faults for these venues through commercial electrical service calls.

Our same-day service reaches every Killara street, from Fiddens Wharf Road across to the Pacific Highway. Typical urgent calls: a Federation house losing lights after rain gets into old roof wiring, a strata car park going dark, and a garden pump circuit refusing to reset.
Owner-occupiers dominate our Killara work. The Census found 39.4 per cent of homes owned outright, well above the state figure, and many of those owners live in period houses they want to keep. They call about ageing cable, overloaded fuse boards, lighting for formal gardens and discreet power for renovated kitchens. As your Killara electrician we also look after apartment owners and strata managers, since flats now make up over two in five dwellings.
Streets like Marian, Arnold, Springdale and Stanhope carry some of the finest Federation housing on the upper north shore, where high ceilings and fragile plaster slow every job down. In the suburb’s apartment buildings the work shifts toward unit boards and common property lighting. Scorched outlets, flickering circuits and any emergency electrical fault get fast attention here and right across the North Shore.

Killara's early streets were built up with Federation and Californian bungalow homes after 1899. We replace brittle cable, add earthing and fit modern circuits while protecting ceiling roses, cornices and leadlight joinery.
Flats account for 42.6 per cent of Killara dwellings. We fault-find inside units, upgrade individual boards and work with strata managers on car park, stairwell and common area lighting.
Blocks here were subdivided large, some beyond an acre. We wire garden lighting, pool pumps and irrigation controllers with weatherproof fittings and RCD protection suited to shaded, damp garden beds.
Killara's commercial pocket sits on the Pacific Highway, alongside the golf and tennis clubs. We keep lighting, kitchens and equipment running with planned maintenance and fast repairs when something trips.

Many Killara Federation and bungalow homes have been through our licensed team’s hands, so we understand how original wiring was routed through high ceilings, timber floors and solid brick walls.

Each Killara quote is written after a visit. Adding lights in a modern unit and in a 1910s mansion on Stanhope Road are different jobs, priced separately and fixed in writing.

If a Killara home loses power in a storm or a unit block’s car park lights fail, we move the call forward so owners and residents are not left waiting.

Many of our 250+ customers are Killara owners and strata committees, often introduced by a neighbour, a builder or a property manager who has seen our work first hand.

Every circuit we install in a Killara home or apartment carries a lifetime labour guarantee, including rewires hidden behind restored plaster and period joinery in heritage houses.

Let us know your street, whether there is on-site parking and any gate codes or strata access rules. We then offer a booking that suits your household or your building manager.

The electrician checks the board, roof space and any existing wiring, explains the work in plain language, then provides one fixed written quote before a single cable is disturbed.

Killara’s narrow leafy streets and highway traffic both need allowing for, so we plan the trip and arrive inside the agreed window. If we are held up, you hear from us first.

Drop sheets protect polished boards and rugs, and debris leaves in our van. Before we go, we hand over the compliance certificate and walk you through what changed in the house.

Nearby suburbs we also serve

Spyro opened for business in 2017 with his own tools and a single van; today five-plus licensed electricians work under him, and Killara is a steady part of our north shore week. The suburb asks for patience: many homes are more than a century old, with fragile ceilings and gardens worth protecting. We rewire period houses room by room, upgrade boards for renovated kitchens, and service the suburb’s apartment blocks. Whoever scopes your job also completes it.

By 1923 Killara had around 500 houses in its best streets, many designed in the Federation and Californian bungalow styles and still standing today. With 39.4 per cent of homes owned outright, long-term owners here are the ones most likely to be living with wiring that has never been fully replaced.

NSW requires a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work for any job we do, so Killara clients get one whether we swapped a single light or rewired an entire Federation house. In homes built a century ago, any old wiring we disturb is either brought to standard or listed in writing for you. Board work adds RCD protection to all final subcircuits under AS/NZS 3000, and Type AC devices have been excluded from new installations since 1 May 2023.
A fixed written price comes before any work begins. Phone quotes rarely hold in Killara: fitting new downlights in a recent apartment is quick, while doing the same in a two-storey Federation house on Arnold Street means working around ornate ceilings, deep roof spaces and old cable. We inspect, then commit to one figure.
Old fuse board in a Springdale Road home, flickering lights in a period house, or strata car park lighting that has failed? Call 02 8999 3691. We will send a licensed electrician to inspect in person, then put a fixed figure on paper, and our labour stays guaranteed for as long as you own the place.
Killara homeowners, renovators, apartment owners and strata managers most often ask us the following. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Often, yes. We start at 7am every weekday and Saturday, wrap up at 5:30pm Monday to Friday and 2pm on Saturday, and keep Sunday free. Killara sits on our regular north shore run, so calling 02 8999 3691 in the morning improves the odds of a visit that day. Burning smells, scorch marks or a main switch that refuses to reset always move to the front.
We look first, then price. Killara homes vary widely: a lighting change in a newer unit takes little time, but the same job in a two-storey house with lath and plaster ceilings takes far longer. After the inspection you get a written fixed price covering the agreed work, and it stays put unless you ask us for extras.
Not necessarily, but it needs testing. Many Killara houses date from the early 1900s, and wiring from that era, or from later partial updates, can have perished insulation and weak earthing. We test each circuit and explain what we find. Often a staged rewire can be done without disturbing period ceilings and joinery.
It can shape how the work looks. Killara includes heritage-listed places such as the Harry and Penelope Seidler House on Kalang Avenue and Woodlands on Werona Avenue, and many period streets. Internal rewiring is generally fine, but external meter boxes, conduits and lights on street facades may need approval. Check with Ku-ring-gai Council, and we will keep new work discreet.
That depends on where the fault is. Wiring from your unit’s own board into your rooms is usually the owner’s job, while main switchrooms, car park lights and corridor lighting are common property. Flats are 42.6 per cent of Killara dwellings, so we untangle this regularly, tracing the fault and then writing up the finding for you and the strata manager alike.
Yes. Many Killara blocks are large and heavily planted, so outdoor circuits face shade, moisture and root disturbance. We design garden lighting, wire pool pumps, heaters and irrigation, and make sure every outdoor circuit has RCD protection. We also trace the damp fault that trips the safety switch every time it rains.
In most cases, yes. Killara averages 1.8 vehicles per dwelling, and most houses have garages or driveways. We check spare capacity at the board, run a dedicated circuit and install the charger. In apartment blocks we can prepare the technical detail the owners corporation needs to approve a charger in a basement car space.
Yes. Kitchen and bathroom renovations in older Killara homes usually need new circuits for induction cooktops, ovens and heated towel rails. We work to your builder’s schedule, rough in before walls are closed, and fit off at the end. Our renovation wiring includes a board check so the upgrade does not overload an old supply.
We do. Killara’s commercial activity is concentrated along the highway, with a hotel, retail showrooms and nearby clubs. We handle lighting upgrades, LED downlight retrofits, dedicated circuits for kitchen equipment, exit and emergency lighting checks and fault repairs, and book noisy work around trading hours.
All of Killara 2071, including Marian Street, Arnold Street, Springdale Road, Stanhope Road, Powell Street, Werona Avenue, Kalang Avenue, Fiddens Wharf Road, Swain Gardens, Killara Park and the Pacific Highway strip.
