The 2021 Census counted 64.4 per cent separate houses in Melrose Park, 30.6 per cent flats and 5.0 per cent semis or townhouses. The older half grew from the 1929 Golf Links Estate, where streets honour aviators such as Cobham, Parer, Lancaster and Jean Batten, so many brick and fibro homes date from the 1930s to the 1950s. We rewire those cottages, upgrade boards for renovations and wire new apartments rising on the former industrial land.

West of Wharf Road, Melrose Park absorbed much of the old Ermington industrial area, long home to pharmaceutical makers including Pfizer and Reckitt Benckiser. That land is being turned into apartments and a town centre. We handle commercial electrical maintenance, lighting and fit-out circuits for remaining businesses and new ground-floor tenancies.

Melrose Park is close to our daily Ryde and Ermington routes, so same-day service is realistic. Urgent calls here include a 1940s cottage losing power to half its rooms, a pool pump circuit tripping the RCD, or a new apartment with a dead kitchen circuit just after settlement.
Melrose Park splits between two councils, with Wharf Road dividing the City of Ryde from the City of Parramatta, and the housing splits just as sharply. East of that line, families in postwar homes want modern kitchens, split systems and more outlets without losing the character of streets laid out around the golf course. West of it, buyers in brand-new apartments call a Melrose Park electrician for extra lighting, data points and fixes to defects found after moving in.
Owner-occupiers dominate, with 40.4 per cent of homes held on a mortgage in 2021, so renovation work is steady. We extend circuits for rear additions, install ceiling fans in bedrooms, upgrade older boards and attend urgent electrical faults when something fails mid-renovation. The same crew then heads out to jobs across the Northern Suburbs.

The 1929 subdivision and later Golf Links releases filled Melrose Park with brick and fibro homes. Original rubber cable, ceramic fuses and missing earth wires still turn up in some of them.
Flats already made up 30.6 per cent of homes in 2021, with more being built on former industrial land. We add lighting, data and circuits once owners take possession.
With 40.4 per cent of homes carrying a mortgage, extensions and kitchen upgrades are common. We plan new circuits early so electrical work fits smoothly into the builder's schedule.
Larger blocks on the older avenues often have pools, sheds and outdoor living areas. We wire pumps, lighting and weatherproof outlets with proper RCD protection.

Our licensed electricians know the brick and fibro homes of the Golf Links Estate and the brand-new towers west of Wharf Road, two very different wiring jobs within one suburb.

We inspect your Melrose Park home before pricing and then commit to one written figure, whether it is a 1930s cottage on Lancaster Avenue or a new apartment near Hope Street.

A tripped board during a family dinner or a dead circuit in a freshly settled apartment gets fast attention, with a genuine arrival time rather than a vague window.

Our 250+ customers include Melrose Park families, renovators and apartment owners, many of whom found us through neighbours along the aviator-named streets.

Every circuit we add or repair in Melrose Park carries our lifetime labour guarantee, from a bedroom fan on Cobham Avenue to a full cottage rewire.

Call or book online and tell us whether you are on the Ryde side or the Parramatta side of Wharf Road, plus any gate or building access details. We then choose a suitable time.

After inspecting the switchboard and circuits, we explain the options and email a fixed written price, so you can plan the renovation budget with certainty.

Street parking on the older avenues is easy, but new apartment blocks need booked visitor bays. We sort that beforehand and arrive within the agreed window.

Once finished we test everything we touched, clean up offcuts and dust, and leave you the compliance certificate with a short summary of the work.

Local pockets we cover in Melrose Park
Nearby suburbs we also serve

Spyro established the business in 2017 and has grown it to more than five licensed electricians covering Sydney’s north-west river suburbs. Melrose Park keeps us busy with two distinct kinds of work: refreshing wiring in homes built from the 1930s onwards, and helping owners in brand-new apartments personalise lighting, add circuits and resolve early faults. Each job stays with the electrician who quoted it, so nothing gets lost between visits.

Most Melrose Park houses date from the Golf Links Estate subdivisions that began in 1929, and 40.4 per cent of homes were being paid off in 2021. That mix of ageing homes and owners willing to invest makes renovation wiring our most requested service here.

All regulated work we complete in Melrose Park is followed by a CCEW, the Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work required under NSW rules. In cottages from the 1930s to 1950s we note any old wiring we come across in writing. Board alterations bring AS/NZS 3000 RCD protection to the final subcircuits, and we never install Type AC switches, which were excluded from new work on 1 May 2023.
We price each job at a fixed written figure after seeing it. The reason is obvious in Melrose Park: adding pendant lights in a new apartment near Hope Street can be straightforward, while running a circuit through a 1940s brick cottage on Johnson Avenue may mean working under timber floors and around old cable. One firm figure removes the guesswork.
Planning an extension on Lancaster Avenue, dealing with an old fuse board, or settling into a new apartment west of Wharf Road? Call 02 8999 3691 to book a licensed electrician. We inspect, explain your options and give you a written fixed price before starting.
Melrose Park families, renovators, new apartment owners and local business tenants ask us these questions most often. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Often we can. Our electricians are on the road from 7am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 2pm on Saturday, and Ryde, Ermington and West Ryde are regular stops. Calling early improves your chances of a same-day visit. Any sign of burning, heat or a board that will not reset gets priority. We are closed on Sundays.
We inspect first, then quote. In Melrose Park the key factors are the age of the house, access under floors or through ceilings, and whether apartment building rules restrict work hours. After the visit you receive a written fixed figure, and it only changes if you ask us to add work.
It deserves a proper check. Homes from the Golf Links Estate era may have rubber-insulated cable, ceramic fuses and little or no RCD protection. Those older fuses protect cabling but not people. We test insulation, earthing and each circuit, then recommend a board upgrade and any rewiring needed, prioritising the most important work first.
Wharf Road separates the City of Ryde from the City of Parramatta, so the council depends on your address. For most electrical work no council approval is needed, but renovations and new structures may require development consent. Electrical safety is handled through the CCEW, which we issue regardless of which side of the road you live on.
Yes. New owners often want extra outlets at the bench or desk, pendant lights over dining areas, dimmers or data points. We check building by-laws, arrange access with the manager and install neatly, usually with minimal surface cabling. We also confirm whether any issue is a builder defect that should be reported under your warranty.
We can. Many older Melrose Park blocks have room for a pool, shed or outdoor kitchen. We run a dedicated protected circuit for the pump, weatherproof outlets and garden lighting, and keep equipment clear of splash zones. Existing pool circuits that keep tripping are usually traced to worn pump seals or damp junction boxes.
Yes, it is a frequent request here. Many cottages have high enough ceilings and roof access, so we fit fans with correct bracing, separate wall controls and circuits where needed. In homes with fragile ceilings we check fixing points carefully before mounting anything heavy.
Most Melrose Park houses with a garage or driveway can take a home charger. We check whether your supply has capacity, whether the board needs upgrading and how far the cable needs to run. We then install and test a dedicated charging circuit with the correct protection.
Yes. As the former industrial land becomes apartments and ground-floor tenancies, businesses need lighting, power, signage feeds and data. We coordinate with property managers and landlords, work outside trading hours where practical and supply full compliance paperwork. We also service remaining commercial buildings for maintenance and repairs.
All of Melrose Park, postcode 2114, including Wharf Road, Victoria Road, Cobham, Lancaster, Batten and Johnson Avenues, Parer and Macintosh Streets, Hope Street and the new apartment precinct.
