Kareela began in 1953 as a Stockland estate first called Sylvan Headland, and it has stayed a suburb of family houses. The 2021 Census counted 88.5 per cent separate houses, 11.2 per cent townhouses or semis and almost no flats, with 63.4 per cent of homes carrying four or more bedrooms. Owner-occupiers dominate, so we mostly replace estate-era boards, add extra power points for home offices, rewire kitchens during makeovers and install ducted air circuits in cul-de-sacs like Rani Place and Morna Place.
Business activity centres on Kareela Village, redeveloped by 2015 with a Coles supermarket, medical centre, cafes, early learning centre and underground parking. We handle tenancy fit-outs, lighting changes and fault calls for these shops, plus clubroom work around Kareela Reserve, home of the Harrie Dening Soccer Centre.
Kareela homes get our same-day service whenever the diary allows. Kareela was laid out from 1953, and 88.5 per cent of its dwellings are separate houses, most of them large family homes. Boards installed when these streets were new rarely have the capacity or RCD coverage today’s households need.
Paperwork matters: each Kareela job closes with the CCEW that NSW law demands, lodged once our tests pass. Plenty of homes here still run on original estate wiring and boards, so as we work we test what is there and report any weak circuits in writing. Change a board in these streets and every final subcircuit needs an RCD over it, and the Type AC variety has been barred from new work since 1 May 2023.
No Kareela job is priced sight unseen. A single-storey brick home on Solo Street with an accessible roof space is quick to wire, whereas a townhouse with a flat roof or a two-storey house on Siandra Drive can double the labour. We inspect, then commit to a written sum that moves only if you request extra work.

In most cases. Our electricians are on the road 7am until 5:30pm on weekdays and 7am until 2pm Saturdays, and Kareela sits right in the middle of the area we cover daily. Ringing in the morning gives the best chance of a visit that afternoon. Burning smells, visible sparks or a main switch that keeps dropping out jump the queue.
We quote after seeing the work. Two jobs that sound alike can differ a lot here: a single-level house with plenty of roof space is quick, while a townhouse with little ceiling access or a two-storey home takes longer. After inspection you receive a fixed figure in writing, and it stays that way unless you add work.
It is worth checking. Many Kareela houses date from the estate years after 1953, and boards from that era often use ceramic fuses or have little RCD protection. They were never designed for today’s air conditioners, ovens and pool gear. We test the circuits, tell you which parts are sound and quote an upgrade suited to your household.
It depends on where the fault lies. Wiring from your own unit board into your rooms usually belongs to the lot owner, while shared meter panels, driveway lighting and common area circuits typically fall to the owners corporation. We locate the problem, then send a short report to you and your strata manager showing which side of the line it sits on.
Yes. Kareela blocks often have room behind the house, and families add studios or granny flats for teenagers or grandparents. We check whether the main board can supply the new building, run a sub-main, fit a sub-board and wire lighting, power and air conditioning. We work with your builder so inspections and fit-off happen on time.
Pools need their own protected circuit for pumps, chlorinators and lighting. We install a dedicated RCD-protected supply, mount an isolator near the equipment and position outlets so they are safely clear of the water. If you are adding a heat pump, we first confirm the board can take the extra load.
Very likely. Kareela averages 2.2 vehicles per dwelling, and most homes have a garage or carport near the board. We check spare capacity, run a dedicated circuit and fit a wall charger, then leave room in the board for a second charger later. A proper charger is faster and safer than leaving a portable lead in a household socket.
Yes. Many Kareela houses still have original batten fittings or fluorescent tubes. We swap them for LED downlights or modern fittings, add dimmers and outdoor sensor lights, and check the ceiling space for old cabling as we go. Brighter, cheaper-to-run lighting is one of the easiest upgrades in these homes.
