Running a cafe in Gymea Village, leasing a unit near the station or owning a brick home close to Hazelhurst Gallery? Our Gymea specials are open now, from The Kingsway to the streets by the TAFE campus. Mention these Gymea savings on the call and they come off your job.

Gymea has a genuinely mixed housing stock. At the 2021 Census, separate houses made up 44.7 per cent of dwellings, well under the 65.6 per cent NSW figure, while townhouses and villas reached 22.8 per cent and flats 31.5 per cent. Much of the suburb was built in the 1950s and 1960s as it changed from rural land to family housing, so many original cottages still run early wiring. We handle rewiring, board upgrades, strata unit faults and extra circuits for renovated kitchens.

Gymea Shopping Village along Gymea Bay Road has grown into a cafe and restaurant strip around the station, with boutiques, gourmet food shops and the Gymea Hotel, open since 1959. We look after shop fit-outs, kitchen circuits, lighting upgrades and emergency lighting for these businesses, working around trading hours.

Gymea sits in the middle of our southern routes, so same-day service is usually possible for urgent faults here. Common calls: a cafe losing power to its coffee machine mid-morning, a townhouse board tripping repeatedly, or an old 1950s cottage circuit overheating behind a power point.
Gymea is split fairly evenly between owners and renters: 32.7 per cent of homes are owned outright, 33.5 per cent carry a mortgage and 32.0 per cent are rented. That gives us a wide mix of clients, from landlords needing compliance work between tenants to long-term owners updating post-war cottages and young families renovating townhouses. As your Gymea electrician we also support cafes and shops along Gymea Bay Road.
Our jobs follow the suburb’s layout. Near the station it is shopfronts, units and villas; further out toward Gymea Bay and Kirrawee it is mostly brick and fibro houses from the post-war boom. A fault in common property and an urgent electrical repair in a restaurant kitchen are both routine for us here and across the Sutherland Shire.

Gymea grew rapidly in the 1950s and 1960s. Many cottages still have original lighting circuits, limited power points and boards without RCDs, so we test and upgrade them for modern use.
Townhouses and villas make up 22.8 per cent of homes here. We sort faults inside units, work with strata managers on common property and upgrade compact boards to suit modern loads.
Flats account for 31.5 per cent of Gymea dwellings. Meter rooms, stairwell lighting and ageing sub-boards need regular attention, and we work with owners corporations to keep them compliant.
The village strip around the station is known for cafes and restaurants. We install and repair kitchen circuits, coffee machine supply and lighting while keeping disruption to trading minimal.

Post-war Gymea homes from the 1950s and 1960s are well known to our licensed crew, along with the strata villas and walk-up units that have since filled streets near the station.

Prices are fixed in writing after we inspect. A villa in a small strata complex and a full-block post-war cottage have different access and cable routes, so each gets its own quote.

If a cafe on Gymea Bay Road loses power or a tenant reports a burning smell, we give the job priority and keep you updated on arrival time.

Over 250 customers have reviewed us, including Gymea landlords, strata managers and cafe owners who rely on quick responses and clear paperwork.

We guarantee our labour for life on every job in Gymea, from a single new circuit in a townhouse to a complete board replacement in a family home.

Let us know your street and whether we reach the job through a strata complex, a shared driveway or a tenant who needs notice. We then book a time that suits everyone involved.

Once the board and the job have been checked, a written fixed price comes through, and for rentals we can send it straight to the landlord or agent for sign-off.

Parking around Gymea Village can be tight on busy mornings, so we plan our arrival and show up in the agreed window, calling ahead if anything changes.

Packaging, old fittings and dust leave with us, and you receive the compliance certificate plus any smoke alarm records your rental file needs.

The business Spyro started in 2017 now counts five-plus licensed electricians, most of whom know the southern Shire street by street. Gymea keeps us busy because it combines older family homes, strata complexes, rentals and a lively cafe strip. We handle rewires, switchboard upgrades, smoke alarm compliance and commercial repairs, with one electrician staying responsible for each job from quote to certificate.

At the 2021 Census, 32.0 per cent of Gymea homes were rented, close to the NSW figure of 32.6 per cent and far above Engadine at 13.5 per cent or Grays Point at 6.5 per cent. With so many units and villas leased, landlords and agents here need smoke alarm work done correctly and on time.

Every Gymea visit finishes with us lodging a CCEW, the compliance certificate NSW demands for electrical work. In post-war homes and older unit blocks we often find unearthed circuits and brittle cable, which we correct or document. Touching a board here means each outgoing circuit must gain residual current cover under AS/NZS 3000, and Type AC models have been shut out of new installations from 1 May 2023.
Gymea clients see one agreed figure in writing ahead of the first cut cable. Costs vary widely in Gymea: replacing lights in a ground-floor villa with easy roof access is straightforward, while the same job in a 1950s cottage with a low roof and old cabling takes more time. We inspect first so the quote reflects the real job.
Smoke alarms due in a Gymea rental, old fuses in a 1950s cottage, or a cafe on Gymea Bay Road short of capacity? Phone 02 8999 3691. We send a licensed tradesperson to inspect, you get one firm figure on paper, and our workmanship is covered for as long as you own the place.
Landlords, strata owners, families in post-war homes and cafe operators around Gymea put these questions to us regularly. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
In most cases. Weekdays we run from 7am until 5:30pm, Saturdays from 7am until 2pm, and Gymea sits right in the middle of our southern Sydney routes. An early call to 02 8999 3691 usually secures a visit that afternoon. Burning smells, hot power points and a board that trips over and over are handled as urgent.
We give a price only after seeing the job. In Gymea, a straightforward task in a newer villa can be quick, while the same work in a 1950s cottage or a unit block with shared meters may take longer. Once we have inspected, a firm written figure follows, and it moves only if you decide to add to the scope.
It may need attention. Gymea grew quickly after World War II, and many cottages still have rubber or early PVC cable, few power points and no RCD protection. We test insulation and earthing, identify unsafe circuits and quote either a full rewire or a staged upgrade.
It depends where the fault is. Wiring from your unit’s own board into your rooms is usually your responsibility, while main switchboards, meter rooms, stair lighting and outdoor common areas are usually strata’s. With townhouses, villas and flats making up over half of Gymea’s homes, we often trace faults and give both owners and strata managers a written report.
Landlords here must keep a working alarm on each storey of a leased home, repair a reported fault inside two business days, and retire any unit ten years past its manufacture date. Hard-wired alarms are licensed electrician work only. Roughly a third of Gymea homes are leased, so alarm checks, replacements and dated records for agents are a steady part of our week.
Often, yes. We check the capacity of your unit board and the main supply, confirm strata approval where the car space is common property, and run a dedicated circuit to your garage or space. Load management can help where the building supply is limited.
Yes. The strip along Gymea Bay Road has become known for its cafe culture, with restaurants, boutiques and food shops around the station. We install and repair kitchen circuits, coffee machine supply, refrigeration and lighting, and schedule noisy work outside trading hours.
Yes. Many older Gymea unit boards have ceramic fuses or only one safety switch. We replace them with compact boards carrying RCD protection on each circuit, coordinate power shutdowns with the strata manager where the meter room is shared, and label every circuit clearly so tenants can find the right breaker.
Yes. Kitchen updates are common in Gymea’s post-war homes and townhouses. We add circuits for induction cooktops, ovens and dishwashers, place power points where benches need them and install LED strip lighting under cabinets, plus new ceiling lights, so the room works well at night.
