Where we replace or alter a switchboard, AS/NZS 3000 requires RCD protection on the final subcircuits, so that work is brought up to standard rather than patched around. Type AC safety switches have not been permitted in new electrical work since 1 May 2023, so we fit Type A or Type B as the circuit demands.

Yes, in most cases. We work Monday to Friday from 7am to 5:30pm and Saturday from 7am to 2pm, and Menai is a short run for our vans. Yes, and Menai suits it well because most homes have a garage or carport. We check the existing supply, the switchboard capacity and the cable route from the board to the garage, then quote a compliant install. In the April 2018 fire around Holsworthy and Menai, heat affected the high-voltage lines feeding the network and caused voltage dips and short interruptions. Those events can damage equipment and leave faults that only show up later. We test the board, the safety switches and the affected circuits, replace what has been damaged and give you a written result.
Yes. It is a submain, not an extension lead, and it needs to be sized for the load, buried at the correct depth with mechanical protection, and terminated in a subboard with its own RCD protection. We often find an existing run that was done cheaply years ago, so we assess what is there first and tell you honestly whether it can be kept or should be replaced.
In New South Wales a rented home needs a working smoke alarm on every storey. Landlords must repair or replace a faulty alarm within two business days of being told about it, and alarms must be replaced within ten years of the manufacture date. Hard-wired alarms must be worked on by a licensed electrician. Menai is mostly owner-occupied, so where a home is rented the alarms are often overdue. We install, replace and leave dated records.
When we are already on site for a booked job, the safety check costs nothing.
