Potts Point is almost entirely apartments. In 2021, 86.9 per cent of dwellings were flats, 10.8 per cent terraces and just nine were separate houses, while 62.8 per cent of homes had one bedroom or none. Building from the 1920s to the Second World War left Australia’s densest cluster of Art Deco flats, such as the Macleay Regis, Cahors, Franconia and Carinthia. We rewire interwar units, replace fused boards inside cramped entries and add power to galley kitchens that were built for a kettle and a toaster.

Darlinghurst Road and the Kings Cross end of Macleay Street carry bars, restaurants, pubs, nightclubs and backpacker hostels, and many former tourist hotels are now strata blocks. We rearrange tenancy supply, add fit-out circuits for kitchens and bars, and service emergency lighting across hotels and hostels.

Our same-day service covers Potts Point from William Street up to the Garden Island gates. Urgent jobs we see often: a 1930s block losing its common stair lighting, a unit board with a melted fuse carrier, and a Darlinghurst Road kitchen losing refrigeration during a busy dinner.
Tenants, owners corporations and hospitality operators make up most of our Potts Point book. With 65.1 per cent of homes rented and 62.8 per cent of dwellings being studios or one-bedders, agents need quick smoke alarm changeovers and owners want more outlets without surface conduit spoiling Deco plasterwork. As your Potts Point electrician we also look after the Victorian terraces along Victoria Street and Kellett Street, where old cloth cable still turns up behind skirting.
Access shapes every visit. Lifts in interwar blocks are small, meter rooms hide under stairwells and the ridge streets have little parking. We book lift time with building managers, bring compact gear up the Butler or McElhone Stairs when it is quicker, and treat an urgent power loss in a shared building as a priority across the City of Sydney.

Potts Point has the highest concentration of Art Deco architecture in Australia. We replace brittle rubber cable, upgrade unit boards and keep original light fittings and ceiling detail wherever the owner wants them.
Nearly 63 per cent of dwellings have one bedroom or none. We add power points where only one outlet served a room, and separate owner faults from common property problems for strata.
Victorian terraces line Victoria Street under its plane trees, many split into flats. Mixed old and new wiring causes nuisance tripping, so we separate circuits, fit RCDs and label boards clearly.
Two in three homes are leased. Between tenants we replace expired smoke alarms, test hallway units in shared buildings and leave dated records for the managing agent.

We have opened plenty of Macleay Street and Springfield Avenue boards and know how interwar builders ran rubber cable through concrete slabs and shared ducts.

A studio in a Deco block and a three-storey Victoria Street terrace get separate written figures, fixed once we have inspected the wiring and the access.

A dead unit on Orwell Street or a failed bar circuit near Kings Cross station moves up our schedule so you are not stranded for long.

Our 250+ customers include Potts Point renters, strata committees and venue owners, and many came to us after a neighbour in the same block recommended us.

Every circuit we lay in a Potts Point unit, terrace or venue carries a lifetime guarantee on labour, including cabling hidden behind restored Deco cornices.

Tell us the building name, the lift size and whether the strata manager needs notice. We then pick a time that suits the building’s rules and your day.

After seeing the board and the risers, we explain the work in simple terms and send one fixed written price before we touch a single terminal.

Parking along Macleay and Victoria Streets is scarce, so we plan the drop point and arrive inside the agreed window, ringing ahead if William Street traffic holds us up.

Floors in narrow Deco hallways get covered, offcuts go with us, and you receive the compliance certificate plus a note for strata on what changed.

Local pockets we cover in Potts Point
Nearby suburbs we also serve

Spyro founded the company in 2017, and today five-plus licensed electricians work across the inner east, with Potts Point one of our most regular stops. The suburb rewards careful hands: tiny units where every outlet counts, heritage mansions like Tusculum and Rockwall nearby, and restaurants that cannot afford a dark kitchen. The electrician who inspects your Macleay Street flat is the one who finishes it, so nothing gets lost between visits.

It is Spyro. If your Potts Point unit still runs on an old fuse board, or strata wants the stair lights sorted, give me a buzz on 02 8999 3691 and a licensed electrician from my crew will come round.

Most Potts Point flats went up between the 1920s and the Second World War, and 86.9 per cent of homes here are apartments, so small unit boards with rewireable fuses still turn up often. Replacing those boards is the upgrade we quote most in 2011.

State rules mean a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work follows each Potts Point visit, and we lodge it every time. In blocks from the interwar years, wiring we disturb is either made compliant or reported to you in writing. Altering a board brings in the AS/NZS 3000 requirement for RCD cover on all final subcircuits, and Type AC units have been barred from new installations since 1 May 2023.
You receive a fixed written price before work begins. Phone estimates mislead in Potts Point: adding a light in a newer converted hotel unit may be quick, while the same job in a 1930s Macleay Street flat means working around concrete slabs, old conduit and a strata lift booking. We look first, set out the scope, then give one firm number.
Fuse board in a Springfield Avenue flat, an alarm deadline from your agent, or a venue on Darlinghurst Road that needs more capacity? Phone 02 8999 3691 to have a licensed electrician look it over, talk through the options and commit to a firm figure on paper. Our workmanship stays guaranteed for life.
Potts Point renters, unit owners, strata committees and venue operators ask us these most often. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Frequently, yes. We run Monday to Friday between 7am and 5:30pm, and Saturdays from 7am until 2pm; we are closed on Sundays. Potts Point is on our regular inner east run, so ringing 02 8999 3691 early gives us the best chance of a same-day slot. Burning smells, sparking outlets or a board that will not reset jump the queue.
We do not quote blind. Two jobs that sound alike can be very different here: new outlets in a renovated unit with ceiling access are simple, while the same outlets in a 1930s block with concrete slabs and shared ducts take longer. After inspecting, we give you a firm written price that only changes if you ask for more work.
Many do. Interwar blocks were wired with rubber insulated cable that turns brittle, and later owners often added circuits piecemeal. Signs include flickering lights, warm switch plates, a fuse board with no RCDs and outlets that stop working. We test insulation and earthing, tell you which circuits are sound, and quote replacement for the rest while protecting original features.
It depends where the fault is. Wiring from your unit’s board into your rooms normally belongs to you, while the main switchboard, risers, stair and corridor lighting are common property. With 86.9 per cent of homes in apartment blocks, we are asked this constantly. We find the fault first, then put the answer in writing for both you and the strata manager.
Possibly. Potts Point includes heritage items such as Tusculum, Rockwall, Jenner House and the terraces at 1 to 13 Kellett Street, and much of the suburb has older fabric councils want kept. Internal rewiring is usually straightforward; care goes into keeping new conduit, meter boxes and lights off street faces. Check approvals with the City of Sydney where unsure.
Each level needs a working alarm, a tenant’s fault report starts a two business day repair clock, and any alarm a decade past its build date has to go. Hard-wired alarms need a licensed electrician. With 65.1 per cent of Potts Point homes rented, we do these checks often, and can add alarm testing at changeover with dated records.
Sometimes. The Census shows 0.6 vehicles per dwelling, and many blocks have no parking at all. Where a building has a basement or garage, we check spare capacity at the main board, run a dedicated circuit to the bay and fit the charger, subject to strata approval. We do not install on public streets.
Water often finds its way into light fittings under leaking roofs, junction boxes in stairwells or outdoor fittings on balconies, and old installations with poor RCD coverage then trip or short. We trace where moisture enters, dry and replace affected fittings, and suggest where RCD protection would stop one fault taking out a whole unit.
Yes. Darlinghurst Road and Macleay Street have a strong run of restaurants, bars and hostels. We add circuits for commercial kitchens, sort out overloaded boards, fit exit signs and emergency lights, and schedule noisy or shutdown work outside trading hours so service is not interrupted.
All of Potts Point 2011, including Macleay Street, Victoria Street, Darlinghurst Road, Springfield Avenue, Orwell Street, Challis Avenue, Kellett Street, Hughes Street, Manning Street and Wylde Street. We also work daily in Kings Cross, Elizabeth Bay, Woolloomooloo, Rushcutters Bay, Darlinghurst and Paddington.
