Own a Buckland Street terrace, manage student rooms off Abercrombie Street or run a gallery near the White Rabbit? Chippendale customers around Balfour Street, Myrtle Street and Regent Street can claim our current limited-time deals too. Mention it on the phone and we honour it.

Chippendale is a renter’s suburb of small dwellings. At the 2021 Census, 88.2 per cent of its 4,832 private dwellings were flats and 9.8 per cent were terraces or townhouses, while 76.0 per cent of households rented against 32.6 per cent across NSW. Studios and one-bedders made up 57.5 per cent of homes, and the median resident was just 28. The streets west of Abercrombie keep older terraces inside a heritage conservation area. We handle terrace rewiring, safety switch upgrades and compact kitchen circuits.

The eastern side near Central mixes small offices, warehouses, cafes and pubs, and Transport for NSW has its headquarters here. Galleries, Notre Dame, Curtin and Boston University buildings dot Regent Street and beyond. We provide commercial electrical work for studios, bars, campuses and converted warehouses.

Chippendale gets same-day service when a fault is urgent. What we see here: an old terrace board failing after rain, a student room without power before exams, a pub cool room circuit dropping out, or buzzing from a switch in a converted warehouse.
Landlords and property managers keep us busiest in Chippendale, which makes sense when three in four homes are rented. They want alarms current, boards safe and faults fixed between tenants. Terrace owners in the conservation streets ask for rewires that leave plaster, cornices and facades alone, and small businesses along Abercrombie and Regent Streets call their Chippendale electrician for lighting, extra power and kitchen circuits.
The suburb’s creative streak shapes the work too. Galleries want track lighting that shows art properly, studios need dedicated circuits for kilns and tools, and bars need reliable refrigeration. Parking is thin and many homes open straight onto the footpath, so we plan access carefully. For sparking outlets or a board that will not reset, our emergency electricians respond from jobs nearby across the City of Sydney.

Chippendale's heritage conservation area covers streets of Victorian terraces west of Abercrombie Street. We replace brittle old cable and fuse boards while leaving facades, cornices and joinery untouched.
Studios and one-bedders made up 57.5 per cent of homes in 2021, many near the universities. We fit compact boards, add outlets for desks and trace faults within shared blocks.
More than a dozen galleries operate in the suburb, including White Rabbit and Pine Street Creative Arts Centre. We install track lighting, dedicated circuits for equipment and three-phase supply where studios need it.
Corner pubs such as the Lansdowne and Abercrombie, plus the Kensington Street eateries, run heavy refrigeration and cooking loads. We balance circuits, add dedicated supplies and keep exit lighting compliant.

Chippendale is familiar ground for our licensed team: Victorian terraces in the conservation streets, studio blocks full of students, and warehouses reworked into galleries and offices.

Before quoting we look at the board and cable paths, then commit to one written figure. A Myrtle Street terrace and a Regent Street studio are priced individually.

A dead circuit in a rented room or a gallery losing lighting before an opening gets moved forward, with the closest licensed electrician sent across the same day.

Chippendale landlords, agents, terrace owners, gallery operators and publicans are all among our 250+ customers, and plenty found us through a neighbour two doors down.

Every hour of labour we put into a Chippendale property is guaranteed for life, including the rewiring hidden behind restored walls in old terraces.

Let us know the street, whether tenants need notice and where the key is kept. We then book a time that suits the lease, the tenant or your trading day.

We open up the board and trace the cable runs, explain what we found in everyday language, then email a firm written figure for you to approve.

Resident parking rules cover much of Chippendale, so we plan where the van goes before leaving and turn up in the agreed window, phoning if we are held up.

Drop sheets protect old floorboards, cable scraps go back in the van, and the certificate arrives by email alongside a plain summary of the work done.

At the 2021 Census, 76.0 per cent of Chippendale households were renting, more than double the NSW rate of 32.6 per cent. With so many tenancies turning over each year, keeping alarms and safety switches compliant is the job landlords and agents here call about most.

When we finish any Chippendale job you receive a CCEW, short for Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, which NSW makes mandatory. If a terrace or unit switchboard is replaced or altered, AS/NZS 3000 requires RCD protection on the final subcircuits, so older boards are brought fully up to standard. Since 1 May 2023, Type AC safety switches are not allowed in new work, and we fit Type A instead.
We price by inspection and then fix the figure in writing. Consider two local jobs: adding lights in a modern studio block near Broadway, where the ceiling is accessible, versus rewiring a two-storey terrace in the conservation streets, with lath-and-plaster walls and tight roof space. The labour differs hugely, so each quote reflects the actual property.
Own a terrace, manage rentals or run a gallery or bar in Chippendale? Call 02 8999 3691 to book a licensed electrician. You will see a written price before work begins, we work tidily around tenants and heritage fabric, and our labour carries a lifetime guarantee.
The questions Chippendale landlords, property managers, terrace owners and small business operators ask us most. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Usually, yes. Our electricians work weekdays from 7am until 5:30pm and Saturdays from 7am until 2pm, with Sundays off. We are in and around Chippendale often, so calling 02 8999 3691 early in the day normally means a same-day visit. For urgent faults such as sparking or a failed board, tell us when you call and we will send the nearest electrician.
It depends on the building, which is why we do not publish rates. A light fitting in a newer studio near Broadway and a rewire in a Victorian terrace with lath walls take very different time and effort. We inspect, explain what is involved, then give you a fixed price in writing that only changes if you add to the job.
Ageing wiring and old boards. Unrenovated terraces can still have ceramic fuses, rubber or cloth insulated cable, and too few outlets, leading to double adaptors everywhere. We replace the board, add RCD protection, and carry out house rewiring through the existing cavities, so the plaster and heritage details stay intact.
Most internal electrical work does not need heritage approval, but anything visible from the street, such as external lights, conduits or meter box changes, may need consent. We keep new cabling hidden, avoid surface-mounting on facades and advise you if a change might need a council application before we proceed.
Yes. Many Chippendale units are studios or one-bedders let to students at the nearby universities. We fit extra outlets for desks and chargers, replace damaged fittings, test safety switches and alarms between leases, and leave agents dated records so the next tenant moves into a safe room.
State rules for rentals set out four things: a working alarm on each level of the home, a reported fault fixed inside two business days, every alarm swapped out before its tenth birthday from manufacture, and hard-wired units fitted only by a licensed tradesperson. We install, test and replace smoke alarms in Chippendale terraces and units and send your agent the records.
Yes. Galleries need track and spot lighting that renders colour well and can be adjusted for each exhibition, while studios may need dedicated circuits for kilns, printers or power tools. We plan the layout with you, install dimmable LED track or recessed downlights, and add circuits sized for the equipment.
Only where off-street parking exists, which is rare but not unknown in Chippendale. We check your board capacity, fit a dedicated circuit with the right RCD protection and mount the charger in the garage or rear lane space. In strata buildings, owners corporation approval is usually needed first.
Yes, when we are already on site for booked work. We trip-test the safety switches, look at the board for heat damage or old fuses, check the age of your alarms and point out any overloaded power boards. Anything we find is explained and quoted separately.
Yes. Every one of our 5+ electricians holds a NSW licence and full insurance. Spyro started the business in 2017 and we have now completed 7,000+ projects. Each job receives a compliance certificate, and our labour is guaranteed for life.
