Freshwater is a split suburb. The 2021 Census counted 53.1 per cent flats or apartments, 41.7 per cent separate houses and 4.7 per cent semis, with 42.3 per cent of dwellings having two bedrooms. Blocks of units line the streets toward the beach, while houses on the Harbord Estate subdivision of 1886 fill the slopes behind. We cover rewires of older homes, apartment board upgrades, kitchen and bathroom renovation wiring and hard-wired smoke alarms.

The Lawrence Street and Moore Road village carries cafes, boutiques and restaurants, with the Harbord Beach Hotel, dating from 1928, and the rebuilt Harbord Diggers nearby. A mixed-use scheme for 10 to 28 Lawrence Street has been lodged with council. We provide shop fit-outs, kitchen circuits, lighting and commercial maintenance outside trading hours.

Salt air, wet sand and an ageing mix of units mean our same-day service in Freshwater often deals with corroded outdoor fittings, a dead stairwell light in a walk-up, a burnt-out unit board or a cafe cool room circuit that has dropped out mid-morning.
Renters, owners and strata committees make up our Freshwater work in roughly equal shares, with 36.6 per cent of dwellings leased, 33.1 per cent mortgaged and 27.6 per cent owned outright. Property managers call before a new lease, strata committees want common-area lighting and meter panels brought up to date, and owners renovate two-bedroom units and beach cottages. As a Freshwater electrician we also look after cafes, boutiques and restaurants around the village.
The beach has its own story: Duke Kahanamoku demonstrated surfboard riding here on 24 December 1914, and his board still sits in the surf club. That coastal exposure is hard on outdoor wiring, so we swap corroded fittings and weatherproof balcony power often. When something fails badly, our emergency electricians reach Freshwater quickly, alongside the rest of the Northern Beaches.

More than half of Freshwater dwellings are flats. We sort faults between lot and common property, replace tired unit boards and upgrade stairwell and car park lighting for strata committees.
With 36.6 per cent of homes rented, agents regularly book us to replace expired alarms, run smoke alarm testing and check safety switches before new tenants move in.
Houses on the old Harbord Estate subdivision often carry decades of add-on wiring. We test, replace unsafe cable and fit modern boards without disturbing original features.
Salt spray near the beach attacks balcony outlets, garden lights and outdoor switchgear. We replace corroded fittings with marine-suitable, weatherproof ones and seal the entries properly.

Our licensed electricians know Freshwater stock well, from Harbord-era houses with patched wiring to older walk-up unit blocks where the meter room sits on common property.

We look first, then quote a fixed amount in writing. A two-bedroom unit near the beach and a detached house up the hill are priced on what each actually involves.

A dark stairwell, a tripping board in a rented unit or a village kitchen losing power gets quick attention, and we aim to attend the day you call.

Our 250+ customers include Freshwater landlords, strata committees and small business owners, many of whom recommend us to the next block or shop along.

Each circuit we install in a Freshwater home, unit or shop comes with a lifetime labour guarantee, including balcony and outdoor work exposed to salt air.

Tell us your address, unit number, building access and where visitors can park near the beach. We then offer a time that suits you, your tenant or your trading hours.

We inspect the board and the job, then email a fixed written figure, so an owner, tenant or strata manager can approve the cost before we begin.

We arrive in the agreed window, allowing for weekend beach traffic and limited parking. If we are held up, we phone ahead with a revised time.

Floors and common areas are left clean, offcuts go with us, and you receive the compliance certificate plus a note that agents and strata managers can file.

Spyro started the business in 2017 and the team has since grown to five-plus licensed electricians. In Freshwater our days are varied: smoke alarm compliance for an agent in the morning, a switchboard upgrade in a beach cottage at lunchtime, then lighting repairs in a village cafe before close. We keep tenants informed, report clearly to strata, and treat every home as if it were our own.

Flats make up 53.1 per cent of Freshwater dwellings, and the housing on the slopes dates back to subdivisions of the 1880s. Many unit boards and cottage boards here still lack full RCD coverage, so switchboard upgrades are a job we quote often in 2096.

Every Freshwater job we complete comes with a CCEW, lodged as NSW requires. Older unit blocks and Harbord-era houses often have mixed wiring, so any circuit we disturb is tested and either upgraded or noted in writing. Board work brings RCD protection onto all final subcircuits under AS/NZS 3000, and since 1 May 2023 Type AC safety switches may not be used in new installations, so Type A or better is fitted.
We visit, assess, and then give you one fixed price in writing. Phone guesses fall apart in Freshwater, where adding a circuit in a newer apartment with an accessible riser is simple, yet the same request in an older beach cottage can mean lifting floorboards, working in a tight roof and replacing old cable along the way.
Need smoke alarms sorted before a new lease, a safer board for your beach cottage, or more power for a village cafe? Ring 02 8999 3691 and a licensed electrician will inspect the job in Freshwater, send one written figure, and guarantee the labour for life.
Freshwater landlords, unit owners, strata committees and village business owners send us these questions most. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
In most cases, yes. Our electricians work 7am to 5:30pm on weekdays and 7am to 2pm on Saturdays. Call 02 8999 3691 early, and we will aim to reach Freshwater that day. Safety concerns, such as a smell of burning, sparks or a board that will not reset, go ahead of routine work.
We only quote after seeing the job, and the price is fixed in writing. Freshwater jobs vary widely: a straightforward repair in a modern unit is quick, while the same work in a beach cottage with old wiring can take much longer. You get one number, and it only changes if you request extra work.
Every level of the property needs a working alarm. When a tenant reports a fault, the repair must happen within two business days, and alarms have to be replaced within ten years of their manufacture date. Hard-wired alarms must be installed by a licensed electrician. With 36.6 per cent of Freshwater homes rented, we do this work for agents and landlords every month and leave dated records.
It depends on where the fault is. Wiring from your unit board to your own rooms is usually the lot owner’s responsibility, while main boards, meter rooms, stairwell lighting and car park circuits are generally common property. We trace the fault, then give a clear written finding to both you and the strata manager.
Yes. Salt spray and damp air corrode outdoor outlets, balcony lights and garden fittings far faster than inland. Signs include rust stains, tripping in wet weather and switches that stick. We replace affected fittings with weatherproof, corrosion-resistant ones, reseal cable entries and check the circuit protection.
Possibly. The Harbord Estate was subdivided in 1886 and many homes have had wiring added piece by piece since. We often find old rubber or cloth insulated cable, missing earths and boards without RCDs. We test the whole installation, explain what is safe, and quote a staged rewire if needed, keeping disruption to period details low.
Yes. The Lawrence Street and Moore Road area has a strong mix of cafes, restaurants and boutiques, and older premises often need more capacity. We run circuits for coffee machines, ovens and refrigeration, install lighting and exit signs, and book disruptive work outside opening hours.
Sometimes. It depends on having your own parking space and on strata approval. Households here average 1.7 vehicles. We check the building supply and your unit board, run a dedicated circuit to your bay if possible, and give the strata committee the information it needs to approve the installation.
We do. Older unit blocks often still run tired fluorescent fittings in stairwells, foyers and car parks. We replace them with efficient LED lighting on sensors or timers, test emergency lighting, and give the strata manager a clear report of what was done.
Yes. Every electrician is NSW licensed and insured. Spyro has led the business since 2017, and we have completed over 7,000 projects since then. You receive a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work for each job, and our labour is guaranteed for life.
