Browsing Glebe Markets on a Saturday, eating along Glebe Point Road or living near Jubilee Park and the Tramsheds? Our Glebe specials also reach Wentworth Park and the Blackwattle Bay foreshore. Name the promotion when you phone and we apply it to your booking.

Glebe is terrace country. The 2021 Census recorded 47.2 per cent of homes as semis, terraces or townhouses, four times the NSW share, with flats at 46.0 per cent and freestanding houses just 5.0 per cent. Much of it is Victorian, built on the church land sold off after 1828 and the Glebe Estate the Whitlam government bought for public housing. We handle renovation wiring for rear extensions, replace porcelain fuse boards, and rewire terraces where the original cable still runs through lath and plaster.

Glebe Point Road carries a long run of cafes, bookshops and restaurants serving Indian, Thai, Italian and Nepalese food, while the Tramsheds and Broadway Shopping Centre anchor either end. We add kitchen capacity, rewire tenancies between leases and handle commercial electrical repairs for shops all along the strip.

Glebe streets are part of our daily inner-city run, so same-day service is the norm. Urgent jobs here include a terrace losing its back half after heavy rain, a smoking light fitting under an old ceiling rose, and a Glebe Point Road kitchen whose main keeps tripping at dinner.
With 61.4 per cent of Glebe homes rented at the 2021 Census, much of our work comes from property managers, community housing providers and landlords who need circuits made safe before a new tenant moves in. We also work for owner-occupiers restoring terraces on streets like Westmoreland and Darghan, and for restaurateurs who need more capacity than a nineteenth-century shopfront was built for. As a local Glebe electrician we cover the lot.
Each end of the suburb brings its own jobs. Near Blackwattle Bay and Glebe Point there are harbour-side apartment blocks and grand old villas; around the Glebe Estate and Broadway it is rows of modest terraces. Old switchboards, overloaded kitchen circuits and patchy earthing turn up everywhere, and when something fails badly we send an emergency electrician straight over, as we do right across the City of Sydney.

Terraces dominate Glebe, many of them from the Victorian era. We replace brittle cable, add earthing, and fit ceiling fans under decorative roses without damaging the plasterwork.
The Glebe Estate in the south-east holds a large stock of government-owned terraces and cottages. We work to housing provider requirements, with clear reports and dated test records.
Flats make up 46 per cent of Glebe dwellings, many near Blackwattle and Rozelle bays. We handle lot switchboards, common-area lighting and meter room coordination with strata managers.
Glebe Point Road restaurants run heavy cooking and refrigeration loads from old shopfront supply. We add dedicated circuits for commercial appliances and plan the work outside trading hours.

Plenty of Glebe terraces have already passed through our licensed team’s hands, so we understand how narrow halls, shared party walls and rear wings affect a rewire.

Before a single wire is cut, you get a fixed figure in writing. A flat near Wentworth Park and a two-storey Glebe Estate terrace are quoted on their own merits.

A dead circuit in a rented terrace or a tripping main in a Glebe Point Road restaurant is treated as urgent, and we reshuffle the day to get someone there.

Over 250 customers have trusted us, including Glebe landlords, terrace restorers, strata committees near Blackwattle Bay and several restaurant owners on the main road.

Our labour on Glebe jobs is covered for life, whether that is a new board in a Victorian hallway or cable fed carefully behind a restored cornice.

Tell us the street, whether parking is timed or residential, and whether tenants live on site. We then suggest a time that suits them and you.

Our electrician opens the board, checks the roof void, runs through the options, and confirm a written fixed quote so you can approve the job with the full picture.

Glebe Point Road traffic and the Saturday market crowds are factored into our route, and if we are going to be late we ring well before the slot.

Drop sheets protect original floors and stair treads, we take every offcut away, and the compliance certificate is emailed with a short summary of the work.

Spyro set up the company in 2017 and these days the roster carries upward of five licensed electricians. Glebe has been a steady source of work from the start, because the suburb asks for both care and speed: care inside heritage terraces where plaster and joinery matter, and speed for restaurants that cannot lose a night of trade. The same electrician usually follows a Glebe job from first inspection to final test.

Nearly half of Glebe homes are terraces or semis, and much of that stock is Victorian, so the boards tucked into their hallways are often ceramic fuses with little or no RCD protection. Upgrading those boards is the job we quote most in Glebe.

Each Glebe visit closes with its own CCEW, the compliance certificate NSW law demands after electrical work. In terraces well over a century old, cable we disturb is either brought up to current standards or flagged to you in writing. When a board is altered, AS/NZS 3000 requires RCD protection on the final subcircuits, and our safety switch installation uses Type A or better, as Type AC units are off limits for new work since 1 May 2023.
Glebe work varies too much for phone quotes. Adding outlets in a modern Blackwattle Bay apartment usually means open ceiling voids and short cable runs. The same job in a narrow Glebe Estate terrace can mean working through lath ceilings and brick party walls. We inspect first and then commit to one fixed price in writing, which only moves if you add to the job.
A fuse board older than the tenants in your Glebe terrace, a restaurant kitchen short on capacity, or smoke alarms due for the next lease? Call 02 8999 3691. A licensed electrician will inspect, give you a written fixed price, with lifetime cover on the labour.
Glebe landlords, terrace owners, strata committees and restaurant operators ask us these questions most. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Often within hours. Weekday bookings run 7am until 5:30pm, Saturdays 7am until 2pm, and Sundays we rest. Glebe is on our regular inner-city route, and an early phone call to 02 8999 3691 tends to put an electrician at your door before close of business. Mention sparking, burning smells or a main switch that will not reset, since those jump the queue.
We do not quote blind. A terrace rewire in Glebe depends on ceiling access, floor structure and how much of the original cable survives, and an apartment job depends on strata access and the building’s switchroom. We inspect, then give you a written fixed price that stays put unless you ask for more work.
Usually yes. Many Glebe terraces are Victorian and have been partly rewired over the years, leaving a mix of cloth-insulated cable, newer PVC runs and ceramic fuses. Those boards seldom have RCDs. We test every circuit, show you which are sound, and quote an upgrade that suits your budget and the building.
It shapes them rather than stopping them. Glebe Point Road and many surrounding streets sit within a City of Sydney heritage conservation area. Internal rewiring normally needs no approval, but new meter boxes, external conduits and outdoor lights should stay off the street elevation. We work around original plaster, cornices and joinery, and suggest you check with council before external changes.
Yes. The Glebe Estate holds a large number of government-owned terraces and cottages, and we can work to a housing provider’s scope and reporting requirements. That includes smoke alarm replacement, RCD testing, fault repairs and full rewires, with dated records supplied for each property.
Your rental must have an alarm working on every level. A failure reported by the tenant gives you two business days to fix it, while alarms over ten years from their manufacture date must be replaced. Mains-powered smoke alarm installation is licensed electrician work. With six in ten Glebe homes rented, we do many of these changeover checks.
Wiring on your side of the unit board is generally the lot owner’s responsibility, while main switchrooms, rising mains and common lighting belong to the owners corporation. Glebe has plenty of harbour-side blocks where this comes up. We trace the fault, then write up exactly where it sits for you and your strata manager.
Yes. Many restaurants here trade from old shopfronts whose original supply was never meant for commercial cooking. We give ranges, glasswashers and cool rooms their own feeds, upgrade lighting, and fit exit and emergency lights. Noisy or shutdown work is scheduled before opening or on a closed day so service is not interrupted.
Where there is off-street parking, usually yes. Glebe averages 0.9 vehicles per dwelling and many terraces have no driveway, so chargers tend to go in rear-lane garages or apartment car spaces with strata approval. We check the board’s spare capacity first, then run a dedicated circuit to the bay. We cannot install on public kerbs.
The whole of Glebe 2037, from Glebe Point Road, Bridge Road, St Johns Road, Westmoreland and Darghan Streets to the Glebe Estate, Glebe Point, Wentworth Park, Jubilee Park, Bicentennial Park and the Tramsheds. We also cover Forest Lodge, Ultimo, Annandale, Pyrmont, Broadway, Camperdown and Chippendale every day.
