Hillsdale specials are live for unit owners around Grace Campbell Reserve, cottage households on Rhodes Street, tenants near Southpoint and families walking to Matraville Public School. Bring up the deal on your first call and the saving comes off the written quote.

Hillsdale is a unit suburb. The 2021 Census recorded 87.8 per cent of its homes as flats or apartments, with only 4.2 per cent separate houses, and 57.3 per cent had two bedrooms. Much of it went up after World War II, including Housing Commission stock, so three-storey brick walk-ups like those on Unsted Crescent are typical. We rewire tired unit kitchens, add extra power points where one outlet serves a whole lounge, and replace the odd original Rhodes Street cottage board.

Southpoint on Bunnerong Road anchors local trade, with Woolworths, Aldi, TK Maxx and a large post office under a block of 110 apartments. Denison Street adds hire yards and self-storage. For shops, depots and the strata tower above them, we handle lighting changes, dedicated appliance circuits, exit signs and commercial maintenance booked outside trading peaks.

Hillsdale callers get same-day service on most weekdays. Typical urgent jobs in 2036 include a unit losing power when the shared meter room trips, a scorched outlet behind a fridge in a 1960s kitchen, and stairwell lights that stay dark in a three-storey block.
A little over half of Hillsdale households rent, 55.2 per cent at the last Census, so property managers keep us busy with alarm swaps and changeover checks in the brick walk-ups that fill most streets. Owner-occupiers call about something else: kitchens that trip whenever the kettle and microwave run together, or bedrooms with a single outlet from the 1960s. As a Hillsdale electrician we also look after strata committees who need common-area lights and intercoms fixed quickly.
The suburb covers only about 0.7 square kilometres, wedged between Bunnerong Road and the Banksmeadow edge, so our vans cross it in minutes. Faults found at Southpoint, a sparking switch in a Rhodes Street home, or an urgent electrical repair for a Denison Street tenant are all part of our round across the Eastern Suburbs.

Brick blocks like those on Unsted Crescent hold most Hillsdale homes. We trace faults between the lot board and common property, fix foyer and stair lighting, and report findings to strata in writing.
Only 4.2 per cent of dwellings are detached, and several date from the post-war building wave. We test old rubber cable, add earthing where it is missing and bring cramped fuse panels up to date.
The rebuilt Southpoint complex mixes retail below with apartments above. We work with centre management on tenancy lighting, dedicated circuits for equipment and emergency luminaires without disrupting shoppers.
With 57.3 per cent of homes holding two bedrooms, many small boards now feed air conditioners and induction cooktops they were never sized for. We upgrade them with proper RCD protection.

The post-war Hillsdale walk-up is familiar ground for our licensed team, from shared meter panels in the ground-floor foyer to the long cable runs feeding top-floor units.

Before any tool comes out, you receive a single written figure. A Unsted Crescent unit and a Rhodes Street cottage are priced separately because their wiring paths differ.

When a Hillsdale tenant reports no power or a hot, buzzing outlet, we shuffle the day so an electrician reaches the block as soon as the route allows.

More than 250 customers have rated our work, including Hillsdale landlords, strata managers and families who first met us on a job near Southpoint.

Each circuit we install in a Hillsdale flat or cottage carries labour cover for life, so a rewired kitchen or new board stays our responsibility long after we leave.

Give us the unit number, the building’s intercom code and where visitors can park off Bunnerong Road, then pick a slot that fits your lease inspection or work shift.

An electrician inspects the meter panel and cable paths, talk you through the options, and email a fixed amount that stays put unless you add work.

Our electrician arrives in the window agreed. If Bunnerong Road traffic near Southpoint slows the van, you get a phone call with a revised arrival time.

Floors in the unit get covered, off-cuts leave in our van, and you receive the compliance certificate plus a plain summary for your strata manager or agent.

Local pockets we cover in Hillsdale
Nearby suburbs we also serve

From one van in 2017, Spyro has built a crew of five-plus licensed electricians, with Hillsdale one of the pockets we reach most easily. It suits us: compact streets, mostly brick unit blocks, and plenty of landlords who want paperwork done properly. On a given week we might swap alarms for an agent on Denison Street, upgrade a board in a Unsted Crescent flat and help a Southpoint retailer with new lighting. The same small team handles each job start to finish.

At the 2021 Census, 55.2 per cent of Hillsdale dwellings were rented, well above the 32.6 per cent state figure, and nearly nine in ten homes were flats. That makes alarm compliance in small strata units one of the jobs agents and landlords ask us about most in 2036.

Our Hillsdale paperwork always includes a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, lodged as the state demands. Many local blocks are over half a century old, so if we disturb original wiring we either bring it up to standard or note the problem in writing. Replacing or altering a board means AS/NZS 3000 residual current protection across every final subcircuit, and Type AC devices have been barred from fresh installations since 1 May 2023.
We give Hillsdale clients a written fixed price after inspecting the job, never a guess over the phone. Adding a circuit in a newer Southpoint apartment with accessible risers is quick, while the same request in a 1960s Unsted Crescent walk-up can mean chasing brick and tracing old runs through a shared ceiling. Seeing the building first lets us commit to one amount.
Tripping kitchen circuit in a Hillsdale walk-up, an alarm deadline from your agent, or new lighting for a Southpoint tenancy? Ring 02 8999 3691. A licensed electrician will assess it on site, commit to a firm figure on paper, with lifetime cover on our labour.
Hillsdale tenants, landlords, strata committees and Southpoint retailers tend to raise with us. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Most days, yes. Our weekday hours run 7am until 5:30pm, Saturdays finish at 2pm, and Hillsdale sits on routes our vans already use around Maroubra and Botany. Call 02 8999 3691 in the morning and we can usually attend before close. Mention any scorch marks, crackling or a main switch refusing to hold, and that visit is prioritised over routine work.
We look first and quote second. In Hillsdale two jobs that sound alike can be far apart: a new outlet in a recent Southpoint apartment is straightforward, while the same outlet in a brick walk-up from the 1960s may need a new cable run through a shared ceiling. After the inspection you get a fixed written amount that only changes if you request extra work.
Most local blocks were wired for a fridge, a stove and a few lights. Add a split system, an air fryer and a dishwasher and the single kitchen circuit struggles, so the breaker or safety switch trips. We measure the load, move heavy appliances onto their own dedicated appliance circuits and, where the board is too small or old, recommend a switchboard upgrade with proper RCD cover.
It depends on where the fault sits. Wiring from your unit board into your rooms is normally lot property, while main switchboards, meter panels, foyer lights and stairwell circuits are usually common property. With 87.8 per cent of Hillsdale homes being flats, it comes up nearly every week. Once the cause is located, both the owner and the managing agent receive our findings by email.
Each level of the unit must have an alarm that works. A tenant’s report of a faulty one starts a two-business-day clock, alarms older than ten years from their stamped date must go, and only licensed electricians may fit mains-powered models. As more than half of Hillsdale homes are leased, a lot of our work here is landlord compliance, and we leave dated records for your agent.
Often, with strata approval. Hillsdale averages 1.3 vehicles per dwelling and many blocks have a rear car park or basement bays. We check spare capacity at the main board, work out whether your space can take a dedicated circuit from your own meter, and prepare what the owners corporation needs to approve an EV charger installation. Street-side charging on public land is not something we can fit.
Yes. Detached houses make up only a small share of Hillsdale, and several were built in the post-war boom, so we still find rubber-insulated cable, missing earths and ceramic fuses. We test each circuit, tell you which ones are sound and quote a staged rewire if needed, starting with the kitchen and wet areas where the risk is highest.
We do. Southpoint combines supermarkets, specialty shops and a post office with apartments above, and Denison Street holds hire and storage operators. We handle tenancy lighting upgrades, circuits for fridges and equipment, exit and emergency lighting tests, and fault finding, scheduled around opening hours so customers are not disrupted.
Yes. For older walk-ups we inspect the main board and meter room, common-area lighting, emergency luminaires and any visible damage in car parks and laundries. You get a written list ranked by risk, so the committee can budget work over several meetings rather than being surprised by a failure.
All of Hillsdale 2036, including Bunnerong Road, Beauchamp Road, Denison Street, Rhodes Street, Unsted Crescent, Grace Campbell Crescent, Brittain Crescent, Flint Street and the Southpoint precinct. We also work daily in Matraville, Eastgardens, Pagewood, Banksmeadow, Maroubra, Chifley, Botany and Daceyville.
