Homes near Cromwell Park, on Bay Parade above the beach or around the Prince Edward Street shops can claim our current Malabar deals for a limited time, and so can properties toward Randwick Golf Course and Franklin Street. Say you saw the offer as you make the booking.

Malabar is still mainly a house suburb. The 2021 Census recorded 61.8 per cent separate houses, 12.1 per cent semis or townhouses and 25.5 per cent flats, and 40.7 per cent of dwellings have four or more bedrooms. Settlement was slow until the tram reached the Coast Hospital in 1901, so early village housing now sits beside later rebuilds and extensions. We handle rewiring, board changes, ceiling fans and extra circuits for families who have added rooms over the decades.

Malabar’s non-residential land is taken up by big sites: the Malabar Wastewater Treatment Plant, Randwick Golf Course, the ANZAC Rifle Range, plus a small cluster of shops on Prince Edward Street close to Anzac Parade. For local shops and small premises we provide lighting upgrades, commercial repairs, exit signage and extra power, booked around opening times.

Our same-day service covers every Malabar street from the headland down to the golf course. Common urgent jobs here: a big family home losing half its circuits the moment the air conditioner starts, water inside an outdoor box after a southerly, and a burnt neutral in an ageing board.
Most Malabar work comes from owner-occupiers, and the 2021 Census shows why: 36.1 per cent of homes are owned outright, above the state figure. Long-term owners tend to ring when an old board finally needs replacing, when they extend a four-bedroom house, or when they want better lighting in a kitchen looking toward Long Bay. As a Malabar electrician we also handle plenty of rental changeovers, since roughly a third of dwellings are leased.
The suburb grew slowly after allotments went on sale in 1869, then faster once trams ran through in the early 1900s, so wiring ages vary widely from one street to the next. Near the beach and Cromwell Park, salt air works on outdoor fittings. For a sudden failure, our same-day emergency electricians reach Malabar along Anzac Parade while working across the Eastern Suburbs.

Four or more bedrooms appear in 40.7 per cent of Malabar dwellings, well above the state figure. Bigger homes need more circuits, so we add capacity for kitchens, laundries, studies and air conditioning without straining original wiring.
Houses from the decades after the tram arrived in 1901 often still have ceramic fuses or boards with little RCD coverage. We replace them with labelled modern boards sized for current appliance loads.
Houses around Long Bay and Malabar Beach sit in the path of salt spray. We swap corroded outdoor outlets and lights for sealed, weather-rated fittings and check connections that sea air has weakened.
About 34.3 per cent of Malabar homes are rented. Between tenancies we replace expired smoke alarms, test RCDs, fix loose outlets and send landlords dated paperwork for their files.

Our licensed electricians regularly open up Malabar homes built over more than a century of growth, from the old Village of Brand streets to modern rebuilds near the golf course.

Before work begins, we see the job and write down one fixed figure. A light swap near Prince Edward Street and a board upgrade on Bay Parade each get their own quote.

When a Malabar family home loses power or an outlet starts smoking, that call moves ahead of routine bookings and a licensed electrician is sent across promptly.

Our 250+ customers include Malabar owners who have lived near Long Bay for decades, plus landlords and young families who heard about us from neighbours at Cromwell Park.

Labour on every board, circuit and fitting we put into a Malabar home is guaranteed for life, including outdoor lights and outlets that face the salt spray.

Let us know if the house has side access, a steep driveway or a locked gate near the beach. We then book a window that fits around work, school pick-ups and Saturday plans.

After checking the board and roof space, we talk you through the options and email a fixed written price, so there is no guesswork before the job goes ahead.

Parking on the narrow streets near Malabar Beach gets tight on sunny days, so we plan where the van goes and arrive when agreed, calling ahead if held up.

Drop sheets protect floors, sand and scraps leave in our bins, and you get the compliance certificate with a brief summary of every change we made.

Spyro launched the business in 2017, and the team has grown past five licensed electricians. Malabar suits the way we work: many owners here plan to stay for the long haul, so they want boards and wiring done once and done properly. We rewire older houses, upgrade kitchens in larger family homes, sort rental compliance and look after the handful of shops near Anzac Parade, with one electrician seeing each job through.

Separate houses make up 61.8 per cent of Malabar dwellings, so many owners have a garage or driveway where a charger can go. The 2021 Census also found 18.4 per cent of households running three or more vehicles, just above the NSW share, so demand on home switchboards is already significant.

Each Malabar job is backed by a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, which NSW law requires and which we lodge for you. Older houses here often reveal earlier additions of uneven quality, so anything we disturb is either corrected or listed in writing. When a switchboard is altered, AS/NZS 3000 brings RCD protection onto the final subcircuits, and Type AC safety switches have been off limits for new work since 1 May 2023.
You get a fixed figure in writing once we have seen the work. Malabar makes the point clearly: fitting a charger in a modern garage near the golf course can be simple, while adding a circuit to a much older house near Victoria and Napier Streets, where the village first took shape, may mean replacing tired cable along the way. So we inspect, explain and then commit to one price.
Fuse board past its best, an electric car on order, or rusting lights on a Bay Parade balcony? Call 02 8999 3691 to have a licensed electrician visit your Malabar home, check the job properly and hand over a single written amount, with labour guaranteed for life.
Long-term Malabar owners, landlords and families extending their homes put these questions to us most. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Often, yes. Our hours are 7am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 2pm Saturday, and Malabar sits on our regular Anzac Parade run. Phone 02 8999 3691 in the morning and there is a good chance we reach you that afternoon. If you notice scorching, crackling or a main switch that trips straight back off, say so and it gets priority.
We keep no fixed menu of prices, because Malabar homes differ so much in age and layout. A job in a recent rebuild and the same job in an early twentieth-century house can take very different amounts of time. We inspect, explain the work and give you a fixed price in writing, which does not change unless you ask for extra work.
Ageing switchboards combined with decades of piecemeal additions. Many houses have been extended or renovated several times, and each owner added circuits to whatever was there. We often find ceramic fuses, undersized cable feeding newer air conditioners and extensions with no RCD protection. We test every circuit, show you which are sound and quote a board and wiring upgrade that suits the house.
Yes, mostly outdoors. Homes facing Long Bay and Malabar Beach collect salt on outdoor lights, garden power and meter box hardware, which corrodes terminals and lets moisture in. Symptoms include flickering garden lights and a safety switch that trips after rain. We replace affected fittings with sealed, higher-rated gear and clean or remake corroded connections.
Early, ideally while plans are still being drawn. Extensions to larger homes usually add bathrooms, kitchens and living areas that need new circuits, and your board may need upgrading to handle the extra load. Planning cable routes before framing is closed in keeps the renovation tidy and avoids cutting new plaster later. We coordinate timing directly with your builder.
In most houses, yes. With so many Malabar homes being freestanding, off-street parking is common. We confirm how much headroom your supply has, lay a separate circuit to the garage or carport and mount a wall unit. For townhouses and units in shared blocks, the owners corporation has to approve the work before we start.
With 34.3 per cent of Malabar homes rented, we handle plenty of these jobs. NSW rules require a working alarm on each storey, repair within two business days after a tenant reports a fault, and replacement within ten years of the manufacture date. Hard-wired alarms must be installed by a licensed electrician. We fit, test and record everything so your agent has it on file.
Yes. The small group of shops on Prince Edward Street near Anzac Parade needs dependable lighting, refrigeration circuits and compliant exit signs like any strip. We handle repairs, LED lighting upgrades, new power for equipment and emergency light testing, and we plan noisy work before or after trading so customers are not disturbed.
We fit plenty of them. Fans suit the sea breezes here and help upstairs bedrooms in larger homes stay comfortable without running air conditioning all night. We check the ceiling structure and roof access, run a new switched circuit where needed and fit fans with lights or remote controls. Older ceilings may need a brace before mounting.
Yes. For owners who have lived in the same house for many years, a full inspection is a sensible check. We test RCDs, look for heat damage at the board, check earthing and inspect outdoor fittings exposed to coastal air. You get a written report listing what is fine and what needs attention, ranked by urgency.
We cover all of Malabar 2036, from the headland and Franklin Street through Bay Parade, Cromwell Park, the Prince Edward Street shops, Victoria and Napier Streets and the streets beside Randwick Golf Course. We also work across Maroubra, Matraville, Chifley, Little Bay, Phillip Bay, La Perouse and Hillsdale.
