Our Canterbury specials run this season for residents near Canterbury Racecourse, apartment owners along Charles Street and Broughton Street, traders around the Woolworths centre on Canterbury Road, and families beside Tasker Park. Quote this offer when booking and we will honour it.

Canterbury is now mostly apartments. The 2021 Census counted 62.8 per cent of occupied dwellings as flats, 29.3 per cent as separate houses and 6.3 per cent as semis or townhouses, and nearly half of all homes, 48.7 per cent, had two bedrooms. The village dates from an 1841 subdivision and grew after the railway opened in 1895, so older cottages still sit between newer mixed-use towers on Charles and Close Streets. We handle old cottage rewiring, unit board upgrades and extra circuits for heavier modern loads.

Commercial Canterbury is concentrated along Canterbury Road and the streets around the station. Hotel Canterbury, an Aldi, the Lumex Canterbury plaza with its dining and fitness tenancies, and the Woolworths centre at Charles Street all trade here. We provide commercial electrical repairs, shop lighting, kitchen circuits and tenancy fit-out wiring for small operators nearby.

Canterbury receives our same-day service Monday to Saturday within business hours. Urgent calls we expect here: a ground-floor flat near the Cooks River with water in a fitting after heavy rain, a cottage fuse board overheating, a restaurant losing its cool room circuit, and a dark common stairwell in a strata block.
Tenants and investors make up much of our Canterbury work, since 47.9 per cent of dwellings were rented at the 2021 Census. Property managers need smoke alarms serviced between leases, owners of two-bedroom units want boards brought up to standard, and the families in older houses near Canterbury Public School ask for rewiring and new lighting. As a Canterbury electrician we also see many multilingual households, with Mandarin, Greek and Vietnamese all common at home, so we keep explanations simple and put everything in writing.
Business owners along Canterbury Road call us for shop lighting, extra kitchen capacity and faults that stop trading. Cafes and restaurants employed 3.4 per cent of working residents, well above the state share, so food businesses are a steady part of the mix. For an urgent electrical problem in a flat, cottage or shop, we reach Canterbury quickly from our regular runs across the Inner West.

Charles Street, Broughton Street and Close Street now carry high-density mixed-use buildings. We work within strata by-laws, upgrade unit boards, fix intercom and common lighting faults and liaise with building managers on access.
Suburban growth followed the Bankstown line opening in 1895. Houses from those decades often still have ceramic fuses and patchy earthing, so we replace old cable and fit a new switchboard with full RCD protection.
Parkland along the Cooks River includes Mary MacKillop Reserve, built up above flood levels in the 1930s. For nearby ground-floor homes we raise outlets where practical and use sealed outdoor fittings.
Cafes and restaurants line Canterbury Road and the station precinct. We add dedicated circuits for ovens, fryers and cool rooms, replace tired signage and shop lighting and schedule work outside trading hours.

Our qualified team is at home in both halves of Canterbury housing: pre-railway era cottages with tired wiring, and recent Charles Street apartment towers with compact boards and strict strata rules.

You see a fixed written price after our inspection. A two-bedroom unit near the station and a Fore Street cottage get separate figures because their wiring and access differ completely.

When a Canterbury Road kitchen loses power before service or a riverside flat trips after a storm, we move that call forward and aim to be there that day.

Canterbury landlords, strata managers and small food businesses along Canterbury Road are among the 250+ customers who have left us reviews for tidy, reliable work.

Labour on every circuit we install in a Canterbury unit, cottage or shop carries our lifetime guarantee, so a fault in our workmanship years later is still ours to fix.

Give us the address, unit number and building access details, such as the intercom code or loading bay. We book a time that suits your tenants, your trading or your roster.

An electrician inspects the board, the cable routes and the strata limits, then sends a firm figure in writing. You decide in your own time with no pressure.

Parking on Canterbury Road is limited, so we plan side-street parking before we leave the depot and ring ahead if traffic near the station slows us down.

Offcuts and packaging leave with us, carpets and tiles are protected, and you receive the compliance certificate plus a short summary of the circuits we changed.

Local pockets we cover in Canterbury
Nearby suburbs we also serve

Spyro started in 2017 and has built a team of five-plus licensed electricians who now cover Canterbury regularly. The suburb keeps us busy because it holds almost every type of job in one place: century-old cottages, new strata towers, busy food shops and rental units that turn over often. Our electricians explain what they find in plain words, write down the price and stay on the job until the certificate is lodged.

Canterbury had 47.9 per cent of its dwellings rented at the 2021 Census, well above the NSW figure of 32.6 per cent, and 62.8 per cent of homes were flats. That means frequent tenancy changes, and a proper electrical safety check between tenants is one of the most useful jobs we do here.

Canterbury clients receive a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, the paperwork NSW insists on, once each job wraps up. For cottages built soon after the railway arrived, that certificate records which old circuits we tested or replaced. If we alter or change a switchboard, AS/NZS 3000 requires RCD protection on the final subcircuits, and fresh installs have excluded Type AC devices since 1 May 2023, which is why Canterbury boards we touch get Type A protection or higher.
Our written figure follows a look at the property, and it does not move afterwards. Canterbury shows why: a two-bedroom unit in a recent Charles Street tower might need only a new light fitting and a smoke alarm, while a weatherboard or brick cottage off Canterbury Road could need a full board change and rewiring through tight ceilings.
Tripping safety switch in a Charles Street unit, a rental needing smoke alarms before the next tenant, or a Canterbury Road kitchen short on power? Call 02 8999 3691. After an inspection you hold a set figure on paper, and our workmanship carries a guarantee that never expires.
Canterbury landlords, apartment owners, tenants and food business operators most often want answered. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Usually. Our week runs 7am until 5:30pm Monday through Friday plus 7am until 2pm Saturday; Sundays are closed. Canterbury sits between Campsie, Ashfield and Marrickville, all areas we visit each week, so squeezing in a same-day stop is often possible. Mention sparking, burning smells or a board that feels hot when you call, and we will put it ahead of routine work.
We inspect, then write down one fixed price. In Canterbury the gap between a modern unit and an older cottage is too big to price blind. We check the board, the wiring age, access and any strata rules, then email a figure you can approve. There are no surprise hourly add-ons once work begins.
Many do, but we test before recommending it. Houses built as the suburb grew after the railway opened in 1895 can still hold rubber-insulated cable, ceramic fuses and weak earthing. We check insulation resistance and earthing on each circuit and tell you what can stay and what has to go, so you only pay for work that actually improves safety.
Generally the owner covers wiring within their lot from their own board onward, and the owners corporation covers the main switchroom, risers, common lighting and shared services. With 62.8 per cent of Canterbury homes being flats, many callers ask this. We confirm which side the fault is on and send the building manager a clear note if it is common property.
Every storey of a rented home in NSW needs a working smoke alarm. A reported fault gives the landlord just two business days to act. Alarms older than ten years from the date stamped on them must come down, and only licensed hands may connect the mains-powered kind. We service alarms for Canterbury landlords and agents and provide smoke alarm testing reports.
Low ground near the river needs more care. Mary MacKillop Reserve beside the Canterbury Road bridge had to be built up above flood levels, which shows how the riverbank behaves after heavy rain. For ground-floor flats and houses nearby we check outdoor outlets, garden lighting and subfloor cable, use sealed fittings and make sure each circuit is RCD protected.
Yes. We add dedicated circuits for ovens, fryers, coffee machines and cool rooms, fix nuisance tripping, upgrade lighting and install data points for payment terminals. Cafes and restaurants employed 3.4 per cent of working Canterbury residents in 2021, and we understand that downtime costs sales, so we can schedule work before opening or after close.
We take particular care around them. Heritage-listed places here include Canterbury station, Bethungra at 9 Fore Street and the Old Sugarmill on Sugar House Road, and St Paul’s Anglican Church on Church Street was designed by Edmund Blacket. Where a property is listed, we plan cable routes to avoid damaging original fabric and can work with your heritage advisor.
It is often possible with strata approval. We assess the spare capacity of the building supply, explain what the owners corporation needs to approve and install a charger on your parking space once it is agreed. For houses with a driveway, the process is simpler: we check the board, run a dedicated circuit and fit protection of Type A or better.
