Own a Georgina Street terrace, run a shop on South King Street or look after a unit block near Camperdown Memorial Park? Our Newtown specials also stretch to the Enmore Road strip, Hollis Park and the Alice Street end. Quote this page when booking to claim it.

Newtown is terrace country. The 2021 Census counted 52.0 per cent of occupied homes as row, terrace or semi-detached houses, more than four times the 11.7 per cent NSW figure, while separate houses made up only 5.0 per cent. Many are late Victorian rows about 4 metres wide, some two-up two-down with party walls a single brick thick and one roof space running along the row. We trace wiring that wanders between neighbours, replace perished cable in cramped ceilings and carry out terrace rewiring without scarring moulded plaster or iron lace balconies.

King Street and Enmore Road together hold more than 600 shopfronts, described as the most complete late Victorian and Federation commercial precinct in Australia. Behind those narrow facades sit restaurant kitchens, pubs, bookshops, theatres and studios. We add capacity for cookline equipment, replace tired tenancy boards, wire signs and display lighting, and time shopfront electrical work around trade so doors stay open.

Newtown gets our same-day service on North and South King Street, Enmore Road and every lane in between. Typical urgent calls here: half a terrace going dark after rain gets into a shared roof void, a café board tripping during the breakfast rush, or a scorched meter panel in a walk-up near Golden Grove.
Close to three in five Newtown households rent, 57.6 per cent at the 2021 Census, so much of our work here arrives through landlords, agents and share houses. Owners ask us to rewire slim terraces on Australia Street or Holmwood Street, tenants report dead circuits, and King Street shopkeepers need more supply for espresso machines, cool rooms and window lighting. As your Newtown electrician we also look after student households toward the University of Sydney end and the older walk-up flats around Station Street.
The suburb sits across two councils, the City of Sydney and Inner West, and its streets change character quickly. North of the station it is dense, loud and packed with venues; south toward St Peters come antique dealers, three small theatres and quieter rows. Tracing a century-old lighting circuit, swapping a failed board in a pub cellar or answering an urgent power fault are everyday tasks in Newtown and right through the Inner West.

Hundreds of terraces roughly 4 metres wide survive here, many under a continuous roof. We swap brittle cable, add proper earthing and keep new runs out of sight behind cornices and iron lace frontages.
With 57.6 per cent of homes leased, property managers send us in at changeover for smoke alarms past their date, RCD trip tests and new outlets so housemates stop chaining double adaptors.
Upstairs flats, rear kitchens and front retail often draw from one ageing supply in these Victorian shops. We separate the circuits, label each board and give every occupant their own isolation point.
Walk-up flats around Golden Grove and Alice Street, plus converted warehouses such as Alpha House on King Street, mean shared meter rooms. We split lot faults from common property and brief the managers.

Plenty of 4-metre-wide Newtown terraces have been opened by our licensed crew, who understand how 1880s cable runs cross party walls and the long roof voids shared along a row.

We check the board and the cable route, then write down one fixed figure. A two-up two-down off Australia Street and an Enmore Road shop get separate prices because the labour differs.

A King Street kitchen losing power before lunch, or a sparking outlet in a rented terrace, moves ahead of routine bookings so neither trade nor tenants sit waiting.

Across 250+ customers we count Newtown landlords, share households and South King Street traders, and many heard about us from a neighbour further along the same terrace row.

Labour on everything we fit in Newtown is guaranteed for life, from one outlet in a Station Street flat to a full rewire hidden behind restored Victorian plaster.

Name the street and the way in, whether rear lane, shared hallway, strata key or a shop opening at noon. We fit the visit around your lease, roster or trade.

After a look at the switchboard and cable paths, you receive a written fixed figure in plain language, so the bill for your Newtown terrace or shop matches what you signed off.

Kerbside spaces near King Street vanish early, so we plan the van stop and arrive inside the agreed window. When City Road traffic slows us, we phone before the slot passes.

Sheets go over worn floorboards and tiled hallways, scraps go home with us, and the paperwork arrives with the certificate plus a one-page list of every circuit touched.

Back in 2017 Spyro started out with one van; today five-plus licensed electricians carry the name, and Newtown fills a solid share of their week. The suburb tests every skill we have: gentle work inside heritage terraces, quick repairs for King Street kitchens, and clear reports for landlords juggling tenants. One electrician stays with each job from inspection to sign-off, so whoever quoted your Georgina Street rewire is the person who completes it.

Most Newtown housing comes from the terrace boom that followed 1870, and 52.0 per cent of occupied homes are still row or terrace houses. Boards in these homes are often decades old, with rewireable fuses and little or no residual current protection.

Every Newtown job finishes with a CCEW lodged for the work, as NSW law demands. Opening a wall in an 1880s terrace often reveals perished insulation or absent earths; whatever we alter is brought up to current rules, and anything we notice but leave alone is noted in writing for you. A new or modified board brings residual current protection onto every final subcircuit, and Type AC devices never go into our new work.
You see a written fixed figure before anyone lifts a tool. Guessing by phone is unreliable in Newtown: adding downlights in a converted King Street warehouse apartment is often a morning’s work; a two-storey terrace calls for crawling through a low roof space shared with neighbours. We inspect, explain the choices, then commit to a single price that holds unless you widen the scope.
Fuse board still sitting in your Holmwood Street terrace, an agent chasing smoke alarm paperwork, or a King Street tenancy needing more supply before opening day? Ring 02 8999 3691 for an on-site look, a written fixed price, and every hour of labour stays guaranteed for good.
Newtown landlords, terrace owners, share households and King Street traders raise these points with us time and again. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Usually. Weekday work runs 7am to 5:30pm, Saturday 7am to 2pm, and we rest on Sunday. Newtown sits right on the routes our vans cover, so a morning call usually gets someone to your door before the afternoon ends. Mention any burning smell, hot switch plate or main switch that refuses to reset, since those move up the list.
We price after seeing the work, never before. Two jobs that sound alike can differ widely here: a new outlet in a modern unit near Station Street is quick, while one in a 4-metre terrace with a single-brick party wall needs careful chasing and patching. After the inspection you get a written fixed figure, and it changes only if you ask us to add something.
Many Newtown rows went up from about 1870 under one continuous roof spanning several homes. Across a century of piecemeal repairs, circuits were sometimes fed or joined through that shared void, and old neutrals can be common to two houses. We test each circuit back to its origin, separate anything belonging next door and document the result so later work is easier for both owners.
King Street is regarded as the best-preserved Victorian high street in Sydney, and development controls exist to keep it that way. Internal work is usually simple, but new signs, external lights, conduits and meter boxes on a street facade need care and sometimes council approval. Newtown falls under both the City of Sydney and Inner West Council, so confirm which one covers your address before planning visible changes.
The usual dividing line is your unit’s own board. Wiring from that board into your rooms belongs to your lot, while the main switchboard, rising mains, stair lights and common hallways generally belong to the owners corporation. With 39.8 per cent of Newtown homes being flats or apartments, including converted warehouses on King Street, this comes up often. We locate the fault and send a written finding to you and the strata manager.
The rules are strict. No storey may be without a working alarm, a fault a tenant flags gets repaired within two business days, and ten years after the date stamped on an alarm it has to be replaced. Hard-wired units have to be fitted by a licensed electrician. Since 57.6 per cent of Newtown households rent, we carry out plenty of smoke alarm testing , with a dated log handed to each agent.
Yes. Plenty of Newtown terraces were wired when a household ran a few lamps and a wireless, so bedrooms may have a single outlet each. We fit extra power points on sensible circuits, confirm the board copes with heaters, laptops and a second fridge, and get rid of the adaptor chains that cause overheating. If you rent, the landlord must approve the work first.
Usually not at the kerb. Newtown averages 0.9 registered vehicles per dwelling and few terraces have a driveway, so a charger generally depends on a rear lane garage, a space in a block or strata consent. If a bay is available, we measure how much headroom the board has, lay a circuit just for the charger and fix the wallbox beside the car. Chargers on public footpaths are outside what we can install.
Often. Media call King Street Eat Street for its cafés, pubs and restaurants, and many operate from Victorian shops never built for commercial ovens, dishwashers and cool rooms. We add dedicated circuits, upgrade tired boards, fit exit and emergency lighting, and handle shop fit-out wiring for incoming tenants. Noisy or disruptive stages are planned outside service so the kitchen keeps trading.
Yes. Enmore Road branches off King Street at Newtown Bridge and carries a long line of small retailers and venues toward the Enmore Theatre. We install LED lighting for displays, supply for illuminated signs on timers, and extra outlets for point-of-sale gear. Where a sign fixes to a heritage facade, we mount it so it can come off later without damaging original render or tiles.
All of Newtown 2042, including North and South King Street, Enmore Road, Australia Street, Georgina Street, Holmwood Street, Station Street, Alice Street, Church Street, Warren Ball Avenue, Hollis Park, Camperdown Memorial Park and the station precinct. We also work each day in Enmore, Camperdown, Erskineville, Stanmore, St Peters, Marrickville, Darlington and neighbouring suburbs.
