Haberfield is one of the most house-heavy suburbs we cover. The 2021 Census recorded 79.7 per cent separate houses and just 7.1 per cent flats, with 41.3 per cent of homes holding four or more bedrooms. Richard Stanton began subdividing in 1901, and roughly 1,500 double-brick Federation and bungalow homes followed on deep blocks. We carry out full and partial rewires, board upgrades, attic conversion circuits and garden lighting that respects the suburb’s heritage controls.

Commercial work in Haberfield centres on the Ramsay Street shopping strip and the Parramatta Road frontage, where a mix of small local businesses trade. We add circuits for ovens and refrigeration, upgrade tired shop lighting, fit exit and emergency lights and look after business electrical maintenance timed around opening hours.

We run same-day service into every Haberfield street, from Dobroyd Point down to Parramatta Road. Urgent calls here tend to involve ageing cable failing inside double-brick walls, a main switch that will not reset after a storm, or a Ramsay Street shop losing a circuit during trade.
Most of our Haberfield customers own their homes outright, 49.6 per cent at the last Census, and many have lived in the same Federation house for decades. Their calls are about keeping a much-loved home safe: replacing cloth-covered cable, adding power to kitchens that were never designed for dishwashers, or wiring an attic room under the terracotta roof. As a Haberfield electrician we are used to working around leadlight, Art Nouveau timberwork and original plaster without leaving a mark.
Younger families buying into the garden suburb bring a different list: ducted air, EV charging, pool pumps and home offices. Because the whole suburb is heritage-listed, every visible change needs thought, so we plan meter box, conduit and outdoor light positions before drilling. For an urgent electrical fault, we get to Haberfield quickly, and we service the rest of the Inner West from the same local crews.

The whole of Haberfield is heritage-listed, with rules on facades, roofs and colours. We position new meter boxes, external conduits and garden lights so they stay invisible from the street.
Over 41 per cent of Haberfield homes have four or more bedrooms. Solid masonry walls make chasing slow, so we plan routes through roof spaces and under floors to keep plaster damage minimal.
With nearly half of homes owned outright, many boards have not been touched in decades. We swap ceramic fuses for circuit breakers, add RCDs and label each circuit clearly for the household.
Ramsay Street is the suburb's high street. We handle lighting refreshes, new circuits for kitchen equipment and compliant exit signage in its small shopfronts, working around trading hours.

Our licensed electricians have rewired many Federation-era homes, and Haberfield’s double-brick walls, slate or Marseilles tile roofs and ornate ceilings need the patience and skill we bring to each visit.

We inspect first, then send one written figure. A cottage off Waratah Street and a larger Dobroyd Point home receive their own quotes, because access and cable paths differ greatly.

If power fails in a Ramsay Street shop or a Haberfield home starts smelling of hot plastic, we move that call ahead of routine bookings and get an electrician there quickly.

We have earned more than 250 reviews, and Haberfield owners, heritage renovators and Ramsay Street traders feature among them, often after a neighbour over the side fence recommended us.

Every circuit we install in a Haberfield house is backed by a lifetime labour guarantee, including rewiring tucked behind restored plaster and ornate ceilings that nobody wants opened twice.

Tell us your street and whether the home is original or extended. We find a time that suits you, including slots that dodge school pick-up traffic around Haberfield Public on Denman Avenue.

After checking the board, roof space and cable routes, we explain the work plainly and supply a fixed written quote, noting anything the heritage controls may affect.

Haberfield was built without rear lanes, so we park out front, bring dust covers for the verandah path and arrive inside the window we promised, or ring beforehand if delayed.

Original floors and leadlight stay protected, offcuts leave with us, and you receive your compliance certificate along with a list of which circuits we replaced or added.

Local pockets we cover in Haberfield
Nearby suburbs we also serve

Spyro founded the business in 2017, and our team now numbers more than five licensed electricians. Haberfield has become one of our favourite suburbs because the homes reward careful work. We have upgraded boards in bungalows, rewired Federation houses room by room while families stayed living in them, and added lighting to Ramsay Street shops. We treat every Haberfield home as the heritage asset it is, and the electrician who quotes stays with the job.

Haberfield’s roughly 1,500 original homes went up from 1901 onward, most of them double-brick on deep 50 by 150 foot blocks, and 79.7 per cent of dwellings are still separate houses. Wiring from that era, or from mid-century patch-ups, is well past its design life, so careful rewiring is the job we quote most here.

When we finish in Haberfield, the NSW paperwork follows: a CCEW for that job, lodged every time. Homes from the 1901 subdivision can hide surprises once walls are opened, and anything unsafe we uncover is either repaired or written up for you. Touching the board means each final subcircuit in the house must gain residual current protection under AS/NZS 3000, and we reach for Type A devices because Type AC was ruled out of fresh installations from 1 May 2023.
Our quotes are fixed and written before work begins. A new circuit in a single-storey Federation cottage with a roomy roof void is a modest job, while the same work in a larger Dobroyd Point home with a converted attic takes far more planning and care. That is why we inspect before committing to a price, and the figure only moves if you add to the scope.
Whether it is a full rewire for a Federation home near Algie Park, a switchboard upgrade off Dalhousie Street, or new lighting for a Ramsay Street shop, call 02 8999 3691. We inspect, quote in writing and guarantee our labour for life.
These are the questions Haberfield heritage homeowners, renovating families and Ramsay Street shopkeepers raise with us most. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Usually. We work 7am to 5:30pm from Monday to Friday and 7am to 2pm on Saturday. Haberfield sits right beside the routes our vans use daily, so ringing 02 8999 3691 in the morning often gets an electrician to you that afternoon. Warn us about sparking, a hot smell or lost power to half the house, and we prioritise it.
We give a written fixed price after inspecting. Haberfield homes vary widely in layout, from compact cottages to large double-brick residences with converted attics, and the effort needed to run cable through solid walls or cramped roof spaces changes the labour a lot. Once we have seen the site, the price is locked in unless you change what you want done.
No. Internal electrical work is generally fine within the Haberfield heritage conservation area. The controls focus on what the street sees, including roof materials, facade colours and front gardens. We keep new meter boxes, conduits and external lighting discreet and consistent with the house. For major changes, check with Inner West Council before you start.
Get it tested. Many Haberfield homes built after 1901 still contain rubber or cloth-insulated cable that has become brittle, and joins made during later renovations are often poorly terminated. We test insulation resistance and earthing on each circuit, then quote to rewire only the sections that need it, or the whole home if that makes more sense.
Yes. Because second storeys are generally restricted to existing roof space in Haberfield, an attic renovation is a popular way to add space. We plan lighting, power, data and ventilation fans inside the roof void, check the board can take the extra load and make sure new circuits have RCD protection before the plasterer arrives.
Haberfield was laid out without rear laneways, so cars usually park in a front or side driveway or garage. With 1.8 vehicles per dwelling on average, many households want home charging. We check board capacity, run a dedicated circuit and mount the charger where it will not dominate the facade.
Yes. Haberfield’s garden suburb planning means generous yards, curving paths and established planting. We install low-glare path lighting, feature lights for trees and weatherproof outlets for water features or pool equipment, all RCD-protected and placed so the fittings are low-key from the street.
Of course. Haberfield’s median age is 46, and more than one in five residents is 65 or over. We check that smoke alarms work and are within their ten-year life, confirm RCDs trip correctly, fix loose power points and improve lighting in hallways and on steps to reduce trip risks.
We do. Ramsay Street is Haberfield’s high street, lined with small businesses in older shopfronts whose original supply was never sized for today’s equipment. We install extra circuits for commercial appliances, refresh shop and signage lighting, fit exit and emergency lights and book noisy tasks outside trading hours so doors stay open.
We cover all of Haberfield 2045, including Ramsay Street, Dalhousie Street, Dobroyd Point, Deakin Avenue, Rogers Avenue, Waratah Street and the areas around Algie Park, Robson Park and the Hawthorne Canal. Nearby we regularly work in Leichhardt, Ashfield, Summer Hill, Five Dock, Rodd Point, Russell Lea, Lilyfield and Lewisham.
