Mount Colah is a family suburb of detached homes. The 2021 Census showed 83.9 per cent separate houses against 65.6 per cent statewide, with 47.8 per cent of dwellings holding four or more bedrooms. The Housing Commission built homes here in the 1960s, and villa-style medium-density housing followed on the western side in the 1980s. Boards and cabling from those decades are now due for attention, so we handle switchboard upgrades, extra circuits for home offices and outdoor power on bush-edge blocks.

Business in Mount Colah is small and local: a row of shops on the Pacific Highway with food outlets, a pharmacy and medical and dental clinics, a long-running truck stop, and the Bobbin Head cafes and marina inside the national park. We handle shop and clinic electrical maintenance, lighting and new circuits for these operators.

Our same-day service covers Mount Colah from the Arthurian streets off Excelsior Road down to Willarong Road. Common urgent calls here: storm-damaged outdoor circuits on bushland blocks, an old 1960s board with a failed main switch, and a dead pool pump in summer.
Young families and long-time owners keep us busy in Mount Colah. Nearly half of homes carry a mortgage, and 55.5 per cent of families are couples with children, so most calls come during renovations, rumpus room additions and kitchen upgrades. As your Mount Colah electrician we also look after villa owners on the western side and landlords with rental houses.
The suburb sits high, with its upper parts above 200 metres and the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park along the eastern edge, so wind and falling branches cause plenty of outdoor faults. On the streets named after Arthurian knights, flowers and explorers we see a similar pattern: older boards short on RCDs, tired downlights and not enough power points. When there is burning, sparking or an urgent electrical fault, we come quickly, here and across the rest of the North Shore.

Housing Commission homes went up in Mount Colah in the 1960s. Where one still has ceramic fuses or early breakers with little RCD protection, we replace it with modern boards and properly labelled circuits.
Villa-style medium-density housing arrived on the western side in the 1980s. We work within strata rules, trace unit faults to the correct board and upgrade tired lighting and power points.
Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park lines the eastern edge. Wind, branches and leaf litter damage outdoor fittings, so we check garden circuits, seal junctions and install weatherproof lighting with RCD protection.
The Pacific Highway shops, clinics and truck stop, plus the Bobbin Head cafes and marina, rely on steady power. We fix faults, add circuits and upgrade lighting around their trading hours.

From 1960s Housing Commission homes to 1980s villas, our licensed crew has seen Mount Colah’s housing stock inside out and knows how each era’s wiring and boards tend to fail.

A Neridah Avenue brick home and a villa on the western side take different work, so we inspect each one and confirm a fixed written price before anything starts.

When a Mount Colah household loses power after a storm or a main switch trips and will not reset, we shuffle our schedule to get someone there quickly.

Plenty of Mount Colah families are among our 250+ customers, many of whom heard about us from a neighbour or a friend from the local sporting fields.

Labour on every circuit we fit in a Mount Colah home carries a lifetime guarantee, whether it is a full board replacement or outdoor lighting on a steep bush block.

Tell us your street and anything we should know about access, such as a steep driveway, side gate or pets. We then book a time around school runs and work.

The electrician checks the board, roof space and outdoor circuits, explains what is needed in plain terms, and sends a fixed written price before any work begins.

The Pacific Highway and M1 ramps can slow things down, so we plan around them and still turn up within the agreed window. If we are delayed, we call ahead.

Offcuts and boxes travel home in our van, benches get a wipe, and before leaving we hand over the compliance certificate and explain the new board or circuits in plain words.

The business began in 2017 when Spyro took on his first jobs alone; now five-plus licensed electricians share the load, and the Pacific Highway north to Mount Colah is a road we drive often. The suburb suits us: honest family homes, big backyards, bushland at the back fence and owners who want work done properly. We replace ageing boards, wire renovations and add EV chargers for two-car driveways. Your quoting electrician is also your installer.

The Housing Commission built homes in Mount Colah in the 1960s and villas followed in the 1980s, so many homes from those two waves are now 40 to 60 years old. With 83.9 per cent of dwellings being separate houses and families adding pools, air conditioning and home offices, those boards are often overloaded.

Our paperwork for each Mount Colah job includes the CCEW, the state’s compliance certificate for electrical work, whether we fitted one outdoor light or swapped the whole board. In 1960s homes we test earthing and existing cable before connecting anything new. Any altered switchboard gets RCD protection across all final subcircuits under AS/NZS 3000, and Type AC devices have had no place in new work since 1 May 2023.
We give you one fixed written price before starting, and we only set it after seeing the job. Adding a power point in a 1980s villa with an easy roof space is quick, while the same outlet in a split-level brick home on a steep Excelsior Road block may involve long cable runs and tight subfloors. Inspect first, then quote.
Old fuse board in a 1960s home, a safety switch that trips in every storm, or a driveway that needs an EV charger? Call 02 8999 3691 and a licensed electrician will come to your Mount Colah address, inspect it, and send a fixed price in writing, with every hour of labour backed for life.
These are the questions Mount Colah families, villa owners, renovators and local shop owners ask us most. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
There is a good chance. Weekday hours are 7am to 5:30pm and Saturday hours 7am to 2pm, and Sundays we are closed. Mount Colah is a straight run up the Pacific Highway from our Hornsby jobs, so phoning 02 8999 3691 before mid-morning helps. Tell us straight away about sparks, burning smells or a main switch that trips again the moment you reset it.
We price after inspecting. In Mount Colah, slope and house age make a big difference: fitting lights in a 1980s villa is straightforward, but the same work in a 1960s brick home with old cable and a crowded board takes longer. After our visit you get a fixed written figure, and it only changes if you add to the job.
Quite possibly. Mount Colah homes from the Housing Commission era can still have ceramic fuses or early breakers with limited or no RCD protection. They were not designed for today’s air conditioners, pool pumps and kitchen appliances. We inspect the board, test earthing and circuits, and quote a replacement only if it is genuinely needed.
Blocks on the eastern side border Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, and much of the suburb is leafy and elevated. Wind, falling branches, moisture and leaf build-up damage outdoor fittings and cause RCD trips. We check outdoor circuits, replace damaged fittings with weatherproof ones, and make sure every outside circuit is protected. Keep gutters clear around external lights.
Yes. Villa developments on the western side of Mount Colah date from the 1980s and usually share common property wiring. We trace faults to the lot or the common area, liaise with the strata manager and provide written findings. Inside your villa we replace old lights, add power points and upgrade boards.
Yes. With nearly half of Mount Colah homes having four or more bedrooms and large backyards, owners often add pools, sheds, studios or granny flats. We size and run supply correctly, install sub-boards with RCD protection, and wire pumps, lighting and outlets to standard.
Most houses here are. The 2021 Census put Mount Colah at 2.0 vehicles per dwelling, and the typical home has its own garage or driveway. We measure how much headroom the board has, plan a dedicated circuit to the parking spot and fit the charger. Where the board is old or full, you hear about the upgrade before we quote, not halfway through.
We do. Mount Colah’s elevated homes catch the summer sun, and many still have old halogen fittings. We install ceiling fans with proper bracing and replace halogens with LED downlights suited to insulated ceilings. We check roof access first so the quote stays accurate.
Yes. Mount Colah’s shops on the Pacific Highway include food outlets, a pharmacy, medical and dental clinics and a long-running truck stop. We fix faults, add dedicated circuits for equipment, upgrade shop lighting and check exit and emergency lights, working around trading hours so doors stay open.
