Wahroonga took off after the North Shore line opened in 1890, and its Federation and Inter-war mansions still line Burns Road, Water Street and Coonanbarra Road. The 2021 Census counted 74.5 per cent separate houses, well above the 65.6 per cent NSW figure, and 54.6 per cent of homes with four or more bedrooms. That means big roof spaces, older boards and heavy modern loads. We handle rewiring of period houses, board upgrades, garden lighting and circuits for pools and studios.

Wahroonga Village beside the station holds cafes, boutiques and an IGA, with smaller strips on Hampden Avenue and at Fox Valley. Near the Comenarra Parkway sit the Sydney Adventist Hospital and church offices. We service shop tenancies, medical suites and school buildings, adding circuits, replacing lighting and checking exit and emergency fittings.

Same-day service covers Wahroonga from Pearce’s Corner and the M1 end across to Fox Valley and the Warrawee border. Common urgent calls: an Inter-war house losing lights after a storm, a pool pump shorting, a switchboard buzzing or hot, or a cafe fridge circuit failing before opening.
Families drive most of our Wahroonga bookings. The Census found 56 per cent of families were couples with children, living in houses averaging 3.6 bedrooms, so boards that once fed a few lights now carry ducted air, induction cooking and home offices. We add circuits, swap failing fittings for LED downlights and fit ceiling fans to rooms under tall roofs. As a Wahroonga electrician we also work for owners in the unit blocks close to the station.
The suburb spans two councils, Ku-ring-gai and Hornsby, and the housing shifts with it. East of the railway we meet grand Federation homes by architects like Howard Joseland; near Fox Valley the stock is newer and often simpler to wire. If a tree strike or water leak creates danger, we come as an emergency electrician and isolate the fault. It is steady work for us throughout the North Shore.

Council's Wahroonga Conservation Area covers Federation and Inter-war houses on Burns Road, Water Street and Coonanbarra Road. We rewire these homes without disturbing ceilings, joinery or street-facing verandahs.
More than half of Wahroonga homes have four or more bedrooms. We split heavy loads onto separate circuits, add power for studies and rumpus rooms, and run protected feeds to pools and outbuildings.
Cafes, boutiques and grocers in Wahroonga Village and the Hampden Avenue strip need reliable power. We add equipment circuits, change lighting and time disruptive work outside trading.
Flats make up 19.6 per cent of Wahroonga dwellings, many close to the railway. We fix unit board faults, replace alarms and lighting, and liaise with strata over common property.

Our licensed electricians regularly open up Federation and Inter-war houses in the Wahroonga conservation area, where original cable hides behind tall ceilings, timber panelling and deep verandahs.

We walk the property and look at the board before naming a figure. A Burns Road mansion and a Fox Valley townhouse each get a written fixed quote built around their own layout.

When a storm leaves part of your Wahroonga home dark or a hot smell comes from the board, we shuffle the schedule to reach you quickly and call with an arrival time.

250+ customers have rated our work, including Wahroonga households referred by neighbours on the same street or by parents at local schools like Abbotsleigh and Knox.

Every circuit we install in a Wahroonga house, unit or shop has lifetime labour cover, which counts for a lot when cable is sealed behind restored plaster in a heritage home.

Let us know if you are east or west of the railway, how to enter the property and where to park. We then lock in a time around school runs or work.

We check the board and cable routes, explain what is involved and send a fixed written figure. The number stays put unless you decide to change the scope.

Our van comes off the Pacific Highway or Pennant Hills Road and reaches your door within the agreed window. If the M1 traffic backs up, we ring you early.

Drop sheets protect polished floors, rubbish goes with us, and you receive your compliance certificate and a short plain-English list of the work completed.

Spyro set up the business in 2017 and has built it to five-plus licensed electricians. Wahroonga is one of the places we enjoy most on the upper North Shore, because the homes reward careful, well-planned work. We rewire period houses, upgrade boards for heavy family use, wire pools and studios, and service village shops. Each job keeps the same electrician from the first inspection through to the certificate.

Most of Wahroonga’s grand houses went up in the 1920s and 1930s after the railway reached the area in 1890, and 74.5 per cent of dwellings are separate houses. Their boards were designed for lighting and a few outlets, not ducted air, pools and EV charging together.

Each Wahroonga job we complete comes with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, which NSW makes compulsory. Houses from the Federation and Inter-war years often hide rubber-insulated cable joined to later additions; when we disturb it we either bring it up to standard or record the issue in writing. Changing a board means RCD protection across final subcircuits under AS/NZS 3000, and Type AC units are banned from new work from 1 May 2023.
Prices for Wahroonga jobs are fixed in writing after we have seen the site. The range is broad: replacing fittings in a townhouse near Fox Valley might be quick, while similar work in a two-storey Federation house on Burns Road can mean lifting floorboards and working in tight ceiling voids. Inspecting first lets us commit to one clear figure.
Old fuses in a Coonanbarra Road home, a pool pump that keeps tripping, or a Wahroonga Village shop needing more circuits? Call 02 8999 3691. We will inspect, send you a written fixed figure, and cover the labour on our work for life.
Wahroonga families, heritage home owners, unit residents and village business owners ask us these most. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Frequently, yes. We are on the road 7am to 5:30pm weekdays and 7am to 2pm Saturdays; Sundays we are closed. Wahroonga sits on the Pacific Highway and Pennant Hills Road routes we use daily, so an early call to 02 8999 3691 often means a visit the same day. Sparking, burning smells or total power loss are dealt with ahead of planned jobs.
It depends on the house, so we look before quoting. A new circuit in a single-level home near Fox Valley is straightforward, while the same circuit in a 1920s two-storey house with plaster ceilings and narrow roof access takes more time and care. After the visit you receive a fixed price in writing that only changes if you ask for more.
Yes. Internal rewiring is generally allowed; the care goes into how it is done. Ku-ring-gai Council’s Wahroonga Conservation Area covers streets like Burns Road, Water Street and Coonanbarra Road, where Federation and Inter-war character matters. We route new cable through roof and floor voids, avoid new surface conduits on street elevations and protect original finishes. For external changes, confirm approvals with council first.
In large Wahroonga homes, a dip usually points to a heavily loaded supply, a loose connection or a board that was never sized for modern appliances. Loose connections can overheat, so it is worth checking. We test under load, find the weak point and tell you whether a repair or a board upgrade is the better fix.
Yes. Many Wahroonga blocks are deep enough for a pool and a studio or second dwelling. We size a submain from the main board, install a small sub-board at the outbuilding where needed and wire pumps, heaters and lighting to the relevant standards. Trench routes are planned around established trees and garden beds.
The answer depends on the location of the fault. Wiring from your own unit board into your rooms is usually the lot owner’s, while main boards, meter rooms and hallway or car park lights usually belong to the owners corporation. We identify where the fault lies and give both you and the strata manager a written explanation.
Yes. Census figures put Wahroonga at 1.9 vehicles per dwelling, and garages are standard on most blocks. We work out how much headroom your supply has, lay a separate cable from the board to the parking bay and mount the unit with the right protection. If the board has no room left, a replacement can be priced alongside so one visit covers both.
We do. Wahroonga Village, the Hampden Avenue strip and the Fox Valley area have cafes, boutiques and health practices. We provide commercial electrical maintenance, add equipment circuits, replace lighting and test emergency and exit fittings, booking noisy work outside trading or clinic hours.
Often, yes. When walls and ceilings are already open for a renovation, replacing old circuits costs far less effort than coming back later. We work with your builder to plan outlets, lighting and appliances, rough in during framing and finish off once linings are up, with certification at the end.
All of Wahroonga 2076, from Wahroonga Village and the station through Burns Road, Water Street, Coonanbarra Road, Billyard Avenue and Clissold Road to Fox Valley, the Sydney Adventist Hospital precinct, Browns Field and Pearce’s Corner.
