Four out of five Neutral Bay homes are apartments. The 2021 Census recorded 80.2 per cent flats, 10.8 per cent semis or townhouses and only 8.2 per cent separate houses, and 42.9 per cent of dwellings have two bedrooms. Beneath that sits older fabric: Federation and interwar homes from the Neutral Heights, Montpelier and Urara estates, many since cut into flats. We install unit switchboards, rewire converted period homes and add lighting and power to compact kitchens without disturbing neighbours.

Neutral Bay Junction along Military Road carries shops, restaurants and cafes, with the Big Bear centre on the old tram depot site and a smaller cluster on Ben Boyd Road. We fit out shops and eateries, add tenancy circuits, repair exit and emergency lighting and plan work around peak trade.

Neutral Bay gets same-day service from us street by street, from blocks above the Warringah Freeway down to the waterfront at Hayes Street. Urgent calls we see: unit boards tripping during storms, dead lights in shared stairwells, water through ceiling fittings in older walk-ups, and a restaurant losing kitchen power at dinner time.
Renters and apartment owners make up most of our Neutral Bay work, with 52.4 per cent of dwellings leased at the last Census. Property managers want alarm checks between tenancies, owners corporations need common lighting sorted, and residents in older flats off Yeo Street and Wycombe Road ask for more power points where one outlet has served a whole lounge for decades. As your Neutral Bay electrician we also look after the handful of Federation houses that remain whole.
The terrain makes each job different. Streets fall steeply toward the bay, some ending at cliffs, so we plan access, stairs and parking before we arrive. Restaurants along Military Road call when a kitchen circuit keeps dropping, and our urgent fault team responds fast when a board fails mid-shift. Neutral Bay is part of the North Sydney area we cover across the North Shore.

With 80.2 per cent of homes being flats, many older unit boards still use ceramic fuses. We replace them with compact modern boards and safety switches sized for the space available.
Plenty of Neutral Bay's Federation and interwar houses were split into flats. We untangle shared circuits, separate each unit's supply and keep original joinery, leadlight and ceilings intact.
Just over half of all dwellings are rented, so agents book us between tenancies. We test alarms, check RCDs and supply dated reports that satisfy landlords and their insurers.
The Junction is packed with food outlets and small retailers. We run dedicated circuits for ovens, fridges and coffee machines and schedule work outside trading hours.

Countless Neutral Bay walk-ups have passed through our licensed crew’s hands, along with, interwar flat conversions and harbour-side houses, so we understand how shared meter rooms and ageing risers are laid out.

After inspecting, we email one fixed figure for the job. A modern apartment near the Junction and a converted 1910s villa near Anderson Park get separate quotes, since access and wiring differ.

If a Neutral Bay kitchen loses power during service, or a unit board is sparking, that call jumps our queue and we send the nearest electrician straight down Military Road.

More than 250 customers have reviewed us, including Neutral Bay tenants, landlords, strata managers and cafe owners who found us through their building or a Junction neighbour.

We stand behind the labour on every Neutral Bay installation for life, including cable fed through tight interwar ceilings and new circuits in strata units.

Tell us your block, unit number and how the building handles entry, whether a concierge, intercom or key safe. We then pick a slot that suits you and your strata rules.

Our electrician inspects the unit board and the cable routes, explains the work plainly, and you get a single fixed figure in writing before any wire is pulled.

Parking near Military Road is tight, so we plan the van stop ahead and arrive on time. If a freeway delay slows us, you get a phone call with a new arrival estimate.

Drop sheets protect floors and lift walls, packaging goes with us, and the strata manager receives any certificate needed along with a short note of what we changed.

Nearby suburbs we also serve

From a single van in 2017, Spyro has built a crew of five-plus licensed electricians, and Neutral Bay now fills a good slice of our diary. The suburb keeps us sharp. One morning might be a board swap in a sixties apartment block above the freeway, the next a careful rewire in an Arts and Crafts era home near Spruson Street, then a lighting fault in a Military Road cafe. The same electrician sees each job through from quote to certificate.

Flats make up 80.2 per cent of Neutral Bay dwellings, nearly four times the NSW share, and building has shifted from bungalows to apartments since the 1930s. That means most electrical problems here involve a shared meter room, a strata committee or both.

NSW rules oblige us to issue a CCEW, and every Neutral Bay customer receives theirs once testing wraps up. In apartment blocks that record also helps strata managers track what was altered. Whenever we touch a unit or common switchboard, AS/NZS 3000 requires residual current protection on its final subcircuits, and because Type AC safety switches have been ruled out for new work from 1 May 2023, we use Type A or better.
Our prices are fixed in writing once we have seen the job. Neutral Bay shows why: adding a circuit in a newer Military Road apartment with a spare conduit is a short visit, while doing the same in a subdivided 1910s house on a steep block can mean crawling under floors and dealing with several shared boards. We inspect first, then commit.
Unit board tripping, stairwell lights out, or a rental that needs alarms before the next lease? Ring 02 8999 3691 and we will send a licensed tradesman to your Neutral Bay home or shop to look at it, explain the job clearly and provide a written fixed quote, with lifetime labour cover on everything we install.
Neutral Bay renters, apartment owners, strata committees and Junction business owners raise with us again and again. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Most of the time, yes. Our vans roll out at 7am on weekdays and finish by 5:30pm; Saturdays run 7am to 2pm, and Sundays we rest. Neutral Bay sits right on our regular North Sydney run, and ringing 02 8999 3691 before lunch usually lands a visit that same afternoon. Burning smells, sparking or a board that will not reset get priority.
Only after we see them. Access varies hugely here, from apartments with easy ceiling space to old houses on steep blocks where cable has to go under floors. Our electrician inspects, explains what is involved and emails a fixed written figure. That price stands unless you ask us to add more.
In Neutral Bay’s older blocks the usual causes are ageing unit boards, circuits overloaded by modern appliances, or water reaching wiring after heavy rain. We test each circuit, find the fault and explain it plainly. If your board still has ceramic fuses or no RCD protection, replacing it is usually the lasting fix.
Generally, wiring from your unit board into your rooms belongs to you, while the main board, risers, garages and hallway lighting belong to the owners corporation. Bylaws can shift that line, so we trace the fault and send a written summary to you and your strata manager showing exactly where it sits.
Yes. Neutral Bay still holds Federation and Arts and Crafts era homes, and some, like Hastings on Hayes Street, are on the State Heritage Register. Internal rewiring is usually straightforward, but we keep meter boxes and conduits off street facades and protect original ceilings and joinery. For listed properties, confirm approvals with North Sydney Council before work starts.
Each floor of a leased home must carry an alarm in working order. Once a tenant reports a dud, you have two business days to sort it, and ten years after manufacture the unit is due for replacement. Mains-wired alarms are licensed electrician territory. With over half of Neutral Bay homes leased, we handle a steady stream of smoke alarm testing jobs for agents.
Often, but it needs owners corporation approval and enough spare capacity at the main board. We assess the building supply, recommend load management if needed and install the charger on a dedicated circuit to your space. Houses with a driveway are simpler, since the circuit only runs from your own board.
We do. Junction businesses often trade in older buildings whose supply was not designed for commercial kitchens. We add dedicated circuits, upgrade tenancy boards, install exit and emergency lighting, and run data cabling for point-of-sale and offices, scheduling noisy work before opening so trade is not interrupted.
They can. Water finds its way into older walk-ups through roofs and balconies, and wet fittings then trip safety switches or cause shorts. Turn off the affected circuit, keep away from dripping fittings and call us. We dry out, test and replace anything damaged, then confirm the circuit is safe.
We do, for life. Each electrician carries a current NSW licence plus insurance, and Spyro has led the company from its 2017 start. The lifetime labour guarantee means that if our workmanship causes a problem later, we return and fix it at no cost to you.
