Renovating a cottage on Burren Street, renting near Erskineville Oval or living in the new Ashmore blocks by McPherson Park? Our Erko deals this month cover Swanson Street, Erskineville Road and Mitchell Road too. Say you saw it here when booking and the deal is yours.

Erko homes split two ways. The 2021 Census counted 34.5 per cent semi-detached, row or terrace houses, roughly three times the 11.7 per cent NSW figure, plus 61.7 per cent flats, many of them in the Ashmore precinct. Only 3.2 per cent are separate houses. The Victorian cottages and small terraces were built for brickyard and tannery workers, so a four-metre frontage counts as generous here. We handle terrace rewiring, kitchen circuits and board upgrades in these narrow homes.

Erskineville Road carries the suburb’s pubs, cafes and small shops, including the Imperial Hotel of Priscilla fame, while the Ashmore precinct adds new retail beside McPherson Park. We wire shopfronts, bars and cafes, provide commercial electrical maintenance and fit out new tenancies in mixed-use buildings.

Same-day service from our team covers every Erko street, from Macdonaldtown station down to the Ashmore blocks. Urgent jobs we expect here: a Victorian cottage losing a circuit after heavy rain, a kitchen breaker failing mid-renovation, or a common-area light fault in a new apartment building.
Most Erskineville calls come from renters, landlords and young families: the Census put 53.3 per cent of homes on a lease and the median age at just 34. Agents want smoke alarm upgrades between tenancies, cottage owners want old wiring made safe without wrecking plaster, and Ashmore apartment owners want extra power, EV charging or better lighting. As your Erskineville electrician we cover all of it, from one faulty switch to a full renovation.
The suburb has two faces. Streets named for Macdonaldtown-era figures, such as Burren, Devine and Knight, are lined with workers’ cottages. South-east, former brickworks, steelworks and the Metters stove factory have become a 17-hectare neighbourhood of terraces and apartments. Our crew switches between the two constantly across the City of Sydney, and handle emergency electrical faults when something fails without warning.

The 17-hectare Ashmore redevelopment is planned for about 6,000 residents in terraces, apartments and live-work homes. We add circuits, EV charging and lighting, and sort faults between private lots and common property.
With 53.3 per cent of Erskineville homes rented, agents call us between leases to replace expired alarms, test safety switches and provide dated records showing the property meets NSW rental rules.
Pubs and cafes along Erskineville Road, the Imperial Hotel among them, run coffee machines, cool rooms and kitchen gear in older buildings. We add capacity, separate circuits and schedule noisy work outside trading hours.
Many small Erko homes still have ceramic fuses or boards with few RCDs. We fit new switchboards with Type A safety switches on every final subcircuit, sized to fit narrow hallways.

Erko’s narrow Victorian cottages are familiar ground for our licensed team, where cable runs through tight roof spaces and brick party walls, as well as the modern boards in Ashmore apartment blocks.

A two-bedroom Ashmore flat and a Burren Street cottage need different amounts of work, so each receives its own inspection and a single fixed figure in writing first.

If a Swanson Street home loses half its power or an Erskineville Road cafe trips before opening, we rearrange the day’s run so someone reaches you quickly.

The 250+ customers who rate us include Erskineville renters, owners, agents and cafe operators, and many heard about us from someone a few doors down.

Labour on every cottage rewire, board swap or apartment circuit we complete in Erskineville is guaranteed for life, including cable now hidden behind freshly patched plaster.

Let us know your street, whether there is rear lane access, and whether building management needs notice. We then book a time that fits around work, school runs or trading hours.

With the board opened and each circuit traced, we talk you through the options in plain terms and send a written fixed figure before anything is pulled apart.

Parking on narrow Erko streets can be tight, so we plan where the van goes and arrive within the window agreed. If we are running late, you hear from us first.

Floors are covered, dust is vacuumed, offcuts go in our van, and you receive the compliance certificate along with a plain summary of what we changed in your home.

Starting out in 2017, Spyro has built the business up to a team of more than five licensed electricians. Erskineville suits us: small cottages that reward careful work, newer apartments that need smart upgrades, and a local strip where cafe owners cannot afford a dark kitchen. From smoke alarm runs for agents to full rewires near Erskineville Park, the electrician who quotes your job is usually the one who finishes it.

Erskineville’s Victorian cottages and small terraces were built for workers in the local brickworks and tanneries, and 34.5 per cent of homes are still terrace or semi-detached. Their original wiring has usually been patched many times, so full or partial rewires are something Erko needs far more than most suburbs.

In Erskineville, as everywhere in NSW, each finished job needs a CCEW (Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work), and we lodge yours every time. In cottages built for nineteenth-century brickyard workers, disturbing one circuit can reveal older faults; we correct them or record them for you. Under AS/NZS 3000, any board we replace or alter gets RCD protection on its final subcircuits, and we have left Type AC devices out of all new installs since the 1 May 2023 ban.
We price Erskineville jobs as one fixed figure in writing, and only after a look. A lighting upgrade in a new Ashmore apartment with open ceiling access may take a few hours, while the same fittings in a Swanson Street cottage with a tiny roof void and brick walls take much longer. Seeing both lets us quote each fairly, with no surprise extras on the invoice.
Old fuse board in a Burren Street cottage, an agent chasing smoke alarm records, or an Ashmore apartment that needs an EV charger? Ring 02 8999 3691 for a licensed visit in Erskineville, where we inspect the job and give you a fixed price in writing, backed by our lifetime labour promise.
Erskineville renters, cottage owners, Ashmore apartment residents and Erskineville Road business owners ask us these most often. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Often, yes. Our vans roll between 7am and 5:30pm Monday to Friday, and between 7am and 2pm on Saturday, and Erko sits between Newtown, Alexandria and Redfern where we work constantly. Phone 02 8999 3691 early and we will try to reach you the same day. Burning smells, sparking outlets or a main switch that will not reset are treated as urgent. We are closed on Sundays.
We inspect first, then give you one fixed price in writing. Similar-sounding jobs vary a lot here: fitting a circuit in a modern Ashmore unit is simple, while doing it in a Victorian cottage with brick walls and a cramped roof space takes more time. Once agreed, the figure only changes if you ask us to add work.
It depends on its history. Most of Erskineville’s cottages and terraces date from the late nineteenth century and have been rewired in bits over the years, so we often find old rubber or cloth cable joined to newer work, missing earths and ceramic fuses. We test each circuit, explain the results plainly and recommend only what is needed to make your home safe.
Yes, where you have a car space and building approval. The Census counted 0.9 vehicles per Erskineville dwelling, and newer buildings are more likely to have a bay you can use. We check the capacity available on the building’s board, run a dedicated circuit to your bay and install the charger. In older cottages without off-street parking, a charger is usually not possible.
NSW rules require a working alarm on every storey of a rented home, repairs within two business days of a tenant reporting a fault, and new alarms once the old ones pass ten years from their build date. Only a licensed electrician may fit hard-wired units. Since over half of Erskineville homes are rented, we do these checks often and can arrange smoke alarm testing with dated records.
It depends on where the fault is. Your own unit’s board and circuits are usually the owner’s responsibility, while main switchboards, lift lobbies, car park lighting and corridors are common property. In new buildings, some faults may also fall under the builder’s defects warranty. We find the source and give you a written finding for your strata manager.
Yes. Erskineville Road holds pubs and cafes such as the Imperial Hotel, and older premises often need more capacity for coffee machines, cool rooms and kitchen gear. We install fit-out wiring, dedicated appliance circuits, lighting and exit signs, and book noisy or power-off tasks outside trading hours so you can keep serving.
Yes. Victorian cottages were built with few outlets, so many Erko homes rely on power boards. We add outlets where you actually need them, including USB points, and check the circuit can take the load. In narrow homes we plan cable routes through roof or sub-floor spaces so patching is kept to a minimum.
We do. Many Erskineville owners open up small rear kitchens or add upstairs bedrooms, and those projects need new circuits and lighting. We install LED downlights, pendants and outdoor lights, coordinate with your builder on rough-in timing and test everything before walls are closed up.
