Balmoral grew as a harbourside resort from the 1870s, and much of its housing went up in the Federation years between about 1890 and 1915. Heritage homes such as Noonee, built in 1918 and 1919 to an Alexander Stewart Jolly design, still stand among later houses on the Balmoral Slopes. Those older homes often hide brittle cable behind ornate ceilings, so we do careful heritage rewiring, add circuits for modern kitchens and light view-facing decks without spoiling the outlook.

Balmoral’s trade centres on The Esplanade, where takeaway shops and restaurants face the beach, along with the Bathers Pavilion, the sailing club and the Balmoral Baths. For these venues we handle hospitality electrical work: kitchen circuits, outdoor lighting built for salt air, and fault finding scheduled around busy summer service.

Our same-day service reaches every Balmoral street, from The Esplanade up through the Balmoral Slopes to Middle Head Road. Urgent calls typical of this area include a Federation home losing power after a southerly storm, a corroded outdoor outlet tripping the whole house, and a beachfront kitchen circuit failing at lunch.
Most of our Balmoral work is for owners of large, older homes and the restaurants and clubs along the beach. Owners want period houses brought up to date without harming ceilings, joinery or leadlight, and many want garden, terrace and pool lighting that suits the harbour outlook. As your Balmoral electrician we also look after home offices, air conditioning circuits and additional power points for rooms that were never designed for modern appliances.
Balmoral sits at the entrance to Middle Harbour, facing north-east towards North Head and Manly, with Rocky Point splitting Balmoral Beach from Edwards Beach. Salt spray and steep driveways both shape how we plan work here. From a flickering pendant in a Federation hallway to an urgent electrical fault at a beachfront cafe, we bring the same care to every job across the North Shore.

Balmoral holds many homes built between about 1890 and 1915. We replace old wiring and boards while protecting ceiling roses, cornices and joinery, and fit discreet switches that suit the period.
Homes and venues facing Balmoral and Edwards Beaches deal with salt spray. We choose marine-grade outdoor outlets and lights, seal junctions, and replace corroded fittings before they cause nuisance tripping.
The Esplanade runs the length of the beach, lined with restaurants and takeaway shops. We install and repair kitchen circuits, refrigeration supplies and outdoor lighting, timed around peak summer trade.
Houses on the Balmoral Slopes step down towards the harbour. We light driveways, stairs and terraced gardens safely, and run weatherproof power to decks, pool areas and outdoor kitchens.

Our licensed electricians have worked inside Federation and interwar homes like those around Balmoral, and we know how to run new cable without cutting into decorative plaster or timber panelling.

We inspect before we quote, then give you a single written figure. Lighting a Mandalong Road terrace garden and rewiring a hillside Federation home are priced separately and honestly.

A dead circuit at an Esplanade restaurant or a tripping board in a Botanic Road home gets our attention the same day, so the kitchen or the household is not left without power.

Balmoral homeowners and hospitality operators are among our 250+ customers, and they tend to recommend us to neighbours on the Slopes once they see the finish.

Our workmanship on every Balmoral job carries a lifetime labour guarantee. If anything we installed on your harbour-view deck or in your heritage home fails, we fix it at no cost.

Tell us your street and whether there is a driveway, garage or rear lane for the van. Summer weekends near the beach are busy, so we suggest times when parking is easier.

We look over the switchboard and the rooms involved, discuss options for heritage features, then email a fixed price. You approve the figure before anything is touched.

On beach days The Esplanade and nearby streets fill quickly, so we allow for parking and still arrive inside the booked window. If we are delayed, we let you know early.

We protect floors and furniture, lift out every offcut, test each circuit and send your compliance certificate, leaving your Balmoral home exactly as clean as we found it.

Spyro set up the business in 2017, and the team now numbers five-plus licensed electricians across Sydney. Balmoral suits our way of working: patient in old homes where original features matter, organised around restaurants that cannot afford a dark kitchen, and practical about salt air near the water. The electrician who inspects your job is the one who carries it out, so there is always someone who knows your house.

Balmoral’s houses look out across the entrance to Middle Harbour towards North Head, Manly and Clontarf, and many sit on the steep Balmoral Slopes above the beach. Outdoor lighting on decks, stairs and gardens is one of the jobs owners ask us about most here, and salt air makes the choice of fittings important.

Every job we finish in Balmoral comes with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, as required in NSW. In Federation homes, where wiring can be more than a century old, we report anything unsafe we find even if it sits outside the job. When a board is changed or altered, AS/NZS 3000 requires RCD protection on the final subcircuits, and since 1 May 2023 Type AC safety switches cannot be used in new work.
Every quote is a fixed amount, written down after we have seen the job. A new light circuit in a recently renovated house on Mandalong Road might be straightforward, while the same work in a Federation home higher on the Slopes can mean working through ornate ceilings, tight roof spaces and lath walls. That is why we inspect first and only then commit to a price.
Want deck lighting that suits the harbour view, a rewire in a Federation home above the beach, or a reliable kitchen circuit on The Esplanade? Call 02 8999 3691. We will come out, see what is needed, set a fixed price in writing and stand behind the labour for life.
Balmoral homeowners, heritage property owners and Esplanade restaurant operators ask us these questions most. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Usually. We work from 7am to 5:30pm on weekdays and from 7am to 2pm on Saturday, and we are regularly on the Lower North Shore. If you call 02 8999 3691 early, there is a good chance we can reach Balmoral the same day. Tell us if you have no power at all, smell burning or see sparks, and we will treat the call as urgent.
We cannot give a fair figure until we have seen the job. Two similar requests can differ widely here: adding outdoor lights to a newer home with easy roof access is simple, while doing the same on a Federation house with ornate ceilings and a steep garden takes far longer. After inspecting, we give you a written fixed price that stays the same unless you change the scope.
Yes. Many Balmoral homes date from the Federation period, and owners want cornices, ceiling roses, picture rails and leadlight kept intact. We plan cable routes through roof spaces and under floors, use existing openings where possible, and patch only small access points. Where the home is heritage listed, we discuss any visible changes with you so your approvals stay in order.
Salt air is the usual cause. Homes close to Balmoral and Edwards Beaches get salt spray that corrodes fittings and lets moisture in, which often trips the safety switch. We replace failing units with marine-grade or stainless steel fittings, seal cable entries, and test the circuits so the problem does not come back after the next wet spell.
Yes. We run dedicated circuits for pool pumps, heaters, filtration and lighting, with the correct RCD protection and equipotential bonding required around pools and spas. On sloping Balmoral blocks, equipment areas are often below the house, so we plan cable routes carefully and make sure all outdoor outlets and isolators are weatherproof.
We can. Beachfront venues along The Esplanade need reliable circuits for coffee machines, cool rooms, fryers and outdoor lighting. We carry out kitchen and venue fit-outs, repairs and routine testing, and schedule disruptive work outside peak summer trade so service is not affected. We can also test emergency and exit lighting to keep your compliance records up to date.
If the board still has ceramic fuses, lacks RCDs, or has no room for new circuits, an upgrade is usually worthwhile. A switchboard upgrade improves safety and makes it easier to add air conditioning, an EV charger or a pool. In older Balmoral homes, we also test the existing wiring at the same time so the new board is not connected to unsafe cabling.
Yes. Many Balmoral homes have a garage or off-street parking where a wall charger can go. We check your board capacity, run a dedicated circuit with the right protection, and add load management if you already have heavy loads such as a pool or ducted air. On steep driveways, we choose a mounting spot that keeps the cable clear of water and traffic.
If the whole street is dark, it is likely a network fault, so report it to Ausgrid on 13 13 88. If only your home is affected, check whether the safety switch has tripped, but do not keep resetting it. Stay away from wet fittings and fallen wires, and call 000 if there is fire or a line down. Then ring us for an urgent repair.
We cover all of Balmoral within postcode 2088, including The Esplanade, Mandalong Road, Botanic Road, the Balmoral Slopes, Middle Head Road, and the streets around Balmoral Oval and Henry Plunkett Reserve. We also work in nearby suburbs including Mosman, Beauty Point, Clifton Gardens, Cremorne, Clontarf, Neutral Bay, Cremorne Point and Seaforth.
