Stanmore boomed in the 1880s and 1890s, and by the early 1900s its streets were lined with Victorian villas and Federation houses. The 2021 Census shows 40.2 per cent terraces or semis, 38.4 per cent flats and only 18.8 per cent detached homes. Many big villas became boarding houses after the late 1940s and were later restored, so wiring is often layered. We handle full rewires, board upgrades, lighting for restored rooms and renovation wiring.

Parramatta Road carries a long run of shops and showrooms, and a small centre sits beside Stanmore station. Former factories near Parramatta Road, such as the old H. Small chocolate works and Starkeys Cordials, now hold offices and apartments. We do commercial electrical maintenance, office power and lighting, signage circuits and shopfront upgrades.

Our same-day service covers Stanmore from Parramatta Road down to Stanmore Road. Usual urgent jobs: a villa board overheating on a hot night of air conditioning, a Parramatta Road shop losing power before opening, a burnt-out light in a 1960s block stairwell, or water in outdoor fittings after a storm.
We work for a real cross-section of Stanmore. Around 45 per cent of homes are rented, so agents and landlords call about smoke alarms and tired boards. Owners restoring Victorian villas want wiring that suits high ceilings and original plaster. Families with children at Stanmore Public and St Michael’s often need extra circuits for kitchens and home offices, plus LED lighting in extensions.
The suburb’s streets have kept much of their early twentieth-century look, but behind the facades we find everything from cloth-covered cable to modern PVC. Businesses on Parramatta Road and in converted factory offices need reliable power and good lighting. As a Stanmore electrician we handle it all, including urgent faults, throughout Stanmore and across the Inner West.

From the late 1940s many large villas became boarding houses, and conversions back to family homes left odd circuit layouts. We check alarms, split overloaded circuits and bring converted rooms up to current standards.
Flats make up 38.4 per cent of Stanmore homes, including red brick blocks from the 1960s. We replace old unit boards, repair stairwell lighting and separate lot faults from common property in writing.
The old chocolate factory and cordial works near Parramatta Road are now offices and apartments. We upgrade distribution boards, add circuits for open-plan spaces and fix faults in these mixed-use buildings.
Stanmore is known for its long strip of shops along Parramatta Road. We run dedicated circuits, upgrade shopfront lighting, add power for signage and fit exit and emergency lights to code.

Our licensed people have rewired Stanmore villas, semis and old boarding houses, and know how to work around lofty ceilings, cornices and original fireplaces without leaving a mess.

Every job gets a site look and a written fixed price. A Parramatta Road shop and a Corunna Road terrace carry very different access and labour, so each gets its own number.

When a Stanmore board overheats or a shop goes dark before trading, we move you up the day’s list. Our vans are in the inner west daily, so we are rarely far away.

Stanmore renters, villa owners and Parramatta Road traders are among the 250+ customers who have reviewed us after we finished their work.

Anything we wire in a Stanmore house, flat or shop is backed by a labour guarantee that lasts for life, including restorations and new circuits.

Book online or by phone and tell us about parking near the station, rear lane access or a strata contact. We fit the visit around your work, school pick-up or trading hours.

The electrician inspects your board and likely cable runs, talks you through the job without jargon and emails a written fixed price. You approve it before we begin.

Parramatta Road traffic can be unpredictable, so we plan ahead and arrive within the time agreed. If we are held up, we phone you straight away.

Old floors and rugs are covered, dust is vacuumed and cable offcuts go back in the van. The compliance certificate follows by email, along with a summary of circuits altered.

Back in 2017 Spyro started with one van; today five-plus licensed electricians carry the name, and Stanmore features in our week most weeks. The suburb’s mix keeps things interesting: grand Victorian villas, semis and terraces from the 1880s boom, 1960s red brick flats, factory conversions near Parramatta Road and busy shops. We like to have the same electrician quote and complete each job so nothing gets lost between visits.

Stanmore’s housing stock was largely built during the 1880s and 1890s boom, with Victorian villas and Federation houses filling most streets by the early 1900s. Many have been rewired in pieces over the decades, which makes a planned rewire the job we are asked about most here.

Every Stanmore job closes with our Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, as state law expects. In villas that have been boarding houses, flats and family homes over the years, we often find mixed wiring, so anything we disturb is brought to standard or noted in writing. Board work requires RCD protection on all final subcircuits under AS/NZS 3000, and Type AC devices are not used in new work from 1 May 2023.
You get a single written figure, locked in before our tools come out. Estimates by phone rarely work in Stanmore: adding lights in a 1960s flat near Parramatta Road can be simple, while the same in a two-storey Victorian villa with high ceilings may mean hours in the roof and careful patching. So we inspect first.
Old fuses in your Stanmore villa, smoke alarms due in a rental, or a Parramatta Road shop that needs more power? Ring 02 8999 3691 to arrange an inspection. You will receive one written number before work starts, and our workmanship is guaranteed for as long as you own the place.
Here is what Stanmore renters, landlords, villa owners and Parramatta Road business owners most often want to know. If yours is not covered here, call us on 02 8999 3691.
Often. Weekday hours run from 7am to 5:30pm, Saturday from 7am until 2pm, and Sunday we are closed. Stanmore sits on routes our vans drive daily, so ringing 02 8999 3691 before late morning frequently brings someone that afternoon. Scorching, a hot plastic smell or a breaker that trips the moment it is reset jumps the queue.
We do not quote over the phone because jobs vary so much. Adding a power point in a 1960s flat is quick, while the same in a Victorian villa with thick walls and high ceilings takes longer. We inspect the work, explain it and give you a fixed written price that only changes if you ask for more.
Not always. Many Stanmore villas were rewired in parts as they changed from family homes to boarding houses and back again. We often find old cable joined to new, missing earths and overloaded circuits. We test every circuit, show you what is safe and what is not, and quote either a full rewire or a staged plan.
Generally the wiring inside your unit from your own board is yours, while the main board, meter room, stairwells and outdoor lighting are common property. In the older red brick blocks of Stanmore this is a common question. We locate the fault, then send the owner and strata manager a written finding that spells out whose repair it is.
Parts of Stanmore have heritage significance, including Newington College, Stanmore Public School, Stanmore station and the Corunna Road sewer vent and cottage. Inner West Council also protects many streetscapes. Internal electrical work is usually fine, but we keep meter boxes, conduits and outdoor lights discreet on street-facing walls. Check with council if you plan external changes.
Each level of a rented Stanmore home must have a working alarm. If a tenant reports a fault, you have two business days to fix it, and alarms retire at ten years from their manufacture date. Mains-powered alarms can only go in via a licensed electrician. Roughly 45 per cent of Stanmore homes are leased, so we handle plenty of smoke alarm testing and swaps between tenants, leaving dated notes for the landlord.
If you have off-street parking, yes. Stanmore averages 1.2 vehicles per dwelling and many terraces rely on street parking, but homes with rear lane garages and units with car spaces can often take a charger. We check your board, run a dedicated circuit and install the unit. We cannot install chargers on public footpaths.
Yes. Parramatta Road through Stanmore is a long strip of shops, showrooms and small businesses, many in old buildings with limited supply. We upgrade boards, add circuits for equipment, fit shopfront and signage lighting, install exit and emergency lights, and schedule the work to limit disruption to trading.
Yes. Former industrial buildings near Parramatta Road, including the old H. Small chocolate factory and Starkeys Cordials, have become offices and apartments. We add power and data points, upgrade lighting, repair faults in shared distribution boards and fit emergency lighting where required.
Yes, fully licensed. Spyro launched the business in 2017, and every one of our five-plus electricians carries a licence and insurance. Workmanship on anything we fit in a Stanmore villa, flat or Parramatta Road shop stays guaranteed for life, and the NSW compliance certificate arrives at the end of each job.
